So if woment in porm make more than men, it's "exploitation", but if men make more than women elsewhere, it's "inequality." FTA women in the adult industry make twice or triple or more what men make. I'm outraged.

Yeah, a GF once told me eating a lot of ginger-root would make the 'rewards' sweet. But we broke up before the experiment was complete.

Anyone want to pick up the experiment? I'll supply the ginger-root

I just wish sites would offer a "Do not want" search option. I hate it when browsing lesbian teen cheerleader stripper spinner porn and then have a thai ladyboy show up in the list. That is just so wrong and psychological traumatic. I really ought to sue for mental anguish and losses.

The industry will survive, but the conveyor belt of identical looking Vivid stars will go away. Or so I hope.

The biggest reason it's going downhill is because, unlike the music and mainstream movie industry, the porn industry has no allies within government that would help them enforce or prosecute those who pirate it. There are no lobbyists getting congresspeople to hold hearings about the widespread "piracy" problems associated with it because, let's face it, it's PORN! NO politician is going to argue FOR the porn industry or bemoan how it's being exploited and ultimately hobbled by piracy because, well, just because! It's just not done!

When at least two major candidates for the Republican party make "banning porn" part of the primary election campaign (or more realistically, one very prudish one does and another copies him because he thinks he can snag a few extra votes that way) you know you're on your own. The attitude seems to be "You're in porn, you don't deserve any help".

It killed it? Does this mean a few major producers are feeling the heat from all the other small porn producers?

It is amazing how the industry has changed though. I'm not old enough to ever have had to go to a porn theater to view porn, but I remember there used to be places like that. I did buy quite a few porn magazines though and rented quite a few movies, many of which I copied and still have on VHS.

In those days somebody must have been getting paid, but I haven't bought a porn magazine or rented a porn movie in years and its' not because I'm still fapping to the old material.

My question is what do I do with the old magazines? They take up too much space and I haven't even opened a box full of them in years. It would be a shame to throw them away but next time I move I may do that.

I'd probably let them go for the cost of shipping them. And no, the pages aren't sticky.

So they couldn't afford an army of lawyers and congressmen to defend their antiquated business model like the RIAA and MPAA?

The porn industry in general has already adapted well to the internet. This article should have been named "How the entrenched porn studios who refused to adapt, are dying."

Regardless, the author sounds like a pretentious douchebag who enjoys looking down on people in the porn industry. He really went out of his way to construe everything they do as negative.

Yeah, I like those first-timer/amateur vids. I just do not like the ones where they claim to be cheating the women. From some articles I have seen some of them really do cheat them. There are enough problems in the world without feeding into the idea that women that like sex deserve to be treated poorly.

Those are the kinds of things that bring justifiable criticism down on the industry. Plus they are produced by profit-seeking people which only adds to the cries of exploitation.

And all the more reason why amateurs are becoming more popular.

He also talks about Jon Dough killing himself, then makes a giant leap in logic saying the downturn in the industry caused it...and not the fact that he was getting older, had no other means of income, and when he took a look at his life, he realized he met his wife on the movie set of "Dr. Butts.........3!!!!" It's likely that he often had to wait to talk with her after she spit some other guy's semen out.

Women.

Go on, take a look at porn sites geared toward women like the tumblr, Porn for Ladies (obviously NSFW). And while, yes, there is plenty there to get your rocks off, much it is really pretty and artsy. Okay, not the artsy that you can show Grandma unless she is into that but still, it's not all bleached blonde hair, fake tans, fake tits and fake orgasms.

Like here is a safe for work shot in that no naughty bits are shown but still, this is down right hot;

So Jon Dough killed himself because one day he woke up and realized what a sack of shiat he was? But when church going family men kill themselves, everyone blames depression and immediately starts a conversation about how the affliction of mental illness is unaddressed in society. That seems fair.

It's possible, you know, that Jon Dough had a great life that he chose for himself surrounded by people he loved. But he was sick, and it took his life.

It's ironic how porn is usually the industry that is the first to push new technologies, given that it is an activity that most people want to pursue in a manner that maximizes anonymity and minimizes embarrassment. So any tech that facilitates that end, the porn industry jumps all over.

Porn was the first industry to capitalize on the home video market, the first industry to take advantage of pay specialty channels, the first industry to jump to DVDs and POD services, and then, of course, there's the internet, aka the masturbation superhighway. Almost entirely driven by porn back in the 90s.

Now it seems porn has become so successful and so ubiquitous that it has become virtually worthless.

This. Right. Here.

The problem with porn before the internet is that you only got one real kind: 'perfect' looking people dry-humping. With the Internet, you get real-looking people doing a variety of things that aren't solely biological. Fetishes are brought into it and it's more personalized. The days of accepting one sort of porn actor--a deep-fried plastic surgery nightmare--is now see rightfully as wholly unrealistic and startling fake.

The Porn Industry should have taken notes instead of accusing the Internet of pirating its sad wares. It has nothing to do with pirating, it has everything to do with a lazy business model that got oneupped by a more realistic model featuring...well, more realistic people having hot realistic sex.

If that's what you took from the post and what you're getting out of Fark, you might want to rethink your approach to Saturday morning.
I understand mental illness as much as someone who doesn't deal with it directly or study it. My neighbor has been off his meds for a year, refuses to go back on them or see a counselor or other mental health professional. He has full-blown conversations with his Cher album cover. They'll be wheeling the stretcher in there any day now.
And if that was a leap to church going family man troll, well then...you got me, and good day to you, good sir.

The piracy argument, by and large, is a non sequitur.

The only way you can have lost revenue is if someone had the intention of purchasing of purchasing the product in the first place. By and large, the (pirating) decisions thought process results in a choice between pirating and not pirating, not pirating in the place of a purchase.

If anything, a person may be more likely to purchase material if they enjoyed their pirated copy enough to constitute a purchase in their own minds.

If they're old enough/good condition, you could probably put them on ebay and make a bit of profit from collectors or something. Not that my personal experience with ebay has ANYTHING to do with that category, but it's out there...

Its dynamic industry.

The major new income source for the industry is drug companies selling viagra and hair growth like products. It turns out that at least two drug companies have been running product placements in free porn and that is the only place they advertised their alternate names for their main products. It turns out those ads have better response than the billion or so they spent on main stream TV. I wonder if the drug companies ditching TV for products advertised to males will end TV as we know it. I don't think mainstream TV can afford to lose that extra billion since I don't think they had anything left after ford started using "run our ads for free or else you don't get the business when we get back on our feet" as a starting point for price negotiations.

There is also the issue that you no longer have to pay the girls thousands per video. Some eastern Europeans running porn out of London get the girls to pay them to be in the videos since they run clubs and the actresses get treated like VIPs and there is no shortage of girls wanting to be the next star.

Then there is the "art scene". A local group out of Fitzroy gets girls to take 120 pictures and pays them $200. Or rejects the photos and offers less.

One of the largest bandwidth sites in Australia sells bikinis and has lots of photos. I'm not sure what bikini material cost but I figure they can get a few thousand out of a square yard of material. I'm guessing they spend more on web traffic than on material.
