Personally... I think it is mostly just satire.

peasandcarrots: and now they're not going to vote for him anyway.

Yes they will. The xenophobia won't stick to Romney. He looks and sounds like the GOP base, and so they will accept him. Hypocritical as it may seem, they won't have an issue with his family's weird religion or expatriatism.

They won't have a problem with Romneycare, or his transparent abandonment of his previous platforms in favor of whatever will get him support.

They will be behind him because he is the GOP candidate, because he looks and sounds like they do, and because his funny sounding name is "Thurston Howell" funny and not "towelhead" funny.

GhostFish: Nina_Hartley's_Ass: Uh, they ain't liberals.

If they're not supporting the GOP nominee, they're liberals.

This is what the Republican base actually believes.

tomWright: "because George Romney was born in Mexico, his candidate son is not a natural-born citizen, and therefore Constitutionally ineligible to occupy the Oval Office."

Extending this logic, only those descended from the original folks that walked across the Bering Land Bridge, or boated across, counts as natural born.

Of course you could extend it to mean that since humans did not originally evolve here NO-ONE is natural-born.

The "logic" is not even internally consistent. Obama birthers have to argue that only jus solis (born on U.S. soil) confers natural-born citizenship,* thus it was not sufficient that his mother was a citizen. Whereas Romney birthers have to do the exact opposite and argue that only jus sanguis (born to citizen parents) confers natural-born citizenship.

* They also have to deny the provable fact that Obama was provably born in Hawaii, but since they have a long history of denying observable reality, that's not too surprising.
