Troublesome Strumpet: Buffet: Troublesome Strumpet: Buffet: Sexual harassment? The women (creatures) in that photo have NOTHING to worry about!!!

You're an asshole.

Can you explain why Amber? Not disputing you. Merely curious.

First off: Amber?

Second, that is a belief that ignores the foundation of sexual assault and harassment: it's about power. Sexual abuse and all its permutations are a form of bullying. In this particular case, it's an attempt to put those "uppity womenfolk" in their place. Looks and attraction have nothing to do with it. So when someone who may not be conventionally attractive- overweight or old or whatever- is harassed or raped, and people blow them off as trying to get attention when they try to talk about it or report it, it ignores the actual driving force behind such assaults and makes it harder for victims to get the help they need, and for this sort of thing to be stopped.

Don't bother trying to explain such things to mouth breathers. Any "adult" that has to have that explained to them is either too stupid or too much of a childish misogynist to ever get it.

badhatharry: Terrydatroll: Skyred: Why didn't these women just fight back? I can't say a dude has ever groped me but I figure throwing a fist would stop it

That would only work in America where the government protects women. Those women would simply get the shiat kicked out of them then groped anyway. American women have delusions of superiority supported by law, not nature.

I agree. These women are fighting back. They are very brave to even attempt this march.

100% agree about their bravery.

Thirdly, I am one of the foremost proponents of chivalry. It was instilled in me at a very young age. I rarely ever wll even argue with a woman. I have never, nor will ever raise my hand to one, and abhor anyone who does. This applies to children, animals, and anything weaker. All women deserve respect and honorable treatment. I will be the first to intervene on a woman's behalf.
That being said - them chics in that photo are gruesome man!

Lastly, I got 'Amber' from Trjgul.

"A mob of hundreds of men assaulted women holding a march demanding an end to sexual harassment Friday"

Oh, I definitely agree with putting and end to this. If they want to make Friday special, then can let their employees wear jeans to work like the rest of the civilized world.

Mildot: Basically, you can do what you want with their women, but if you dare touch a muslim mans little boy or donkey, you gonna have problems. Again, MOST farkED UP PEOPLE ON THE PLANET!!

IMHO that title should go to people who vote republican.

The notion that all muslims are all alike is wrong. They're like christians; you have your batshiat crazy fundies (Taliban etc), you have your "muslims in name only" (as in drink, eat pork, and laugh at mohammed drawings), and the majority who just want to get on with their lives.

Because you want them to, so you instinctively pick apart every word and action that comes from a man, looking for some sign that he hates women. Naturally, you usually find one, though most people would find the leaps of logic needed to follow your signs highly questionable.

Because for most men, the one thing they want is a woman and yet they can't have one.

cig-mkr: Mildot: cig-mkr: What is the mind set of the men? If they allow another man to fondle their "property" what kind of men can they be?
How far off the deep end would you go if someone was groping your mom, sister, wife, daughter?
And I say property because that's the status of women in the third world.
How can a civilization that had a thousand year jump start on us, be so backward?

Basically, you can do what you want with their women, but if you dare touch a muslim mans little boy or donkey, you gonna have problems. Again, MOST farkED UP PEOPLE ON THE PLANET!!

Anyone that wipes their ass with their hand, IS farkED UP!

I agree. Use someone else's or else wipe with toilet paper.

Sudo_Make_Me_A_Sandwich: pisceandreamer: Can we get these women an intensive six-month course in krav maga and then let the men see what happens when they get all gropey?

While I'm all in favor of people who grope learning their lesson the hard way (and nothing says the hard way like having your hand broken), it sort of ignores the large social context these sexual harassments take place in. I have a friend who has lived in the Middle East, primarily Egypt and Jordan for years, and it's hard to describe the scope of it. She said all the time on the bus she had people grab her ass, her boobs, all over. Even though she was fluent in Arabic, she avoided learning the dirty words (practically the first thing most foreigner learn in most places) because walking down the street people would call out things she knew were dirty and suggestive and didn't want to know exactly what they were saying.

And women, from the time they are little, are trained to just...take it. To fight back is to risk serious physical violence, and the authorities aren't necessarily going to be on your side when they're called. Now, if you're traveling with a man, no one is going to say anything because *he* would have to defend the honor of *his* woman. But a woman by herself, why she's just a whore, a slut, public property for everyone to abuse.

So good on these women for speaking out, because much more effective than teaching women martial arts is teaching them that they're full people, worthy of respect and equal treatment.

This, so much. As much as their change has to come from within them, watching a culture do this is disgusting.

2012-06-09 01:34:26 PM
Scary bad, how women are treated in most of the world. Puts the US "war on women" into some perspective. I'd bet most of the women in Arabic countries would gladly trade their day to day culture at its best for the war on women any day.

Indeed... there are no racists or sexists any more, and anyone who points out apparent racism or sexism is simply demonstrating how racist/sexist they are for even thinking about it.

People are just too sensitive and PC anymore. I mean, damn... can't a group of men gather in the public square to physically assault and intimidate women who are speaking out about their lack of legal and social protections from sexual violence without some liberal feminist nag crying "misogyny?"

I think the response was in regards to the "so many" part. No one is arguing against the fact that "some" men hate women (and "some" women hate men); rather that the systemic hatred of women by "so many" men doesn't really exist outside of Gender Studies 101. Of course, any man that defends himself is by definition "misogynistic", so my opinion is obviously evidence of my hatred of women.

Sounds like semantics to me. I'd like to think that any men who systematically hate women are too many (especially in organized groups) and there are plenty of examples to point to. "Many" is a point probably located somewhere between "some" and "most." Perhaps you would have preferred the former, but it's a hell of a stretch from those few words to what you're trying to ascribe to them.

Unless this particular commenter has a known history I'm not aware of, I think you are making leaps of logic, picking apart the statement until you find signs that the commenter is a hysterical gender warrior... Perhaps because you want them to be.

What the fark does that even mean? Can't I just dislike your ignorance and projective outrage for its own merit?

I just heard a sad tale from WhippingBoy that any man who defends himself gets labeled a misogynist by the meanie feminists, which is proof of how empty that term has become. "White Knight," on the other hand, perfectly legit, I guess.

Need_MindBleach: Duh. All racism, sexism, or other problems in third-world countries are always the fault of Western imperialists. Places like the Arab world were scholarly, rich, egalitarian paradises before Westerners came along and infected them with their evil Western ideas like sexism, racism, and wealth inequality.

Obviously you've never even looked into the history of the region at all, if your kneejerk reaction is to bleat about blaming western imperialists. There were many scholarly, rich, egalitarian places (for the time) in the Arab world... before the mongols butchered everything on their way to Europe. The Ottomans eventually re-established civilization after a period of instability and conquest, and while they stagnated after a while, the early 20th century was actually marked by a rise in democratic, western-oriented fervor, complete with advanced schools and imported technology. There's no question that in many places it wasn't still a barbaric place, but that's just as true in the west. The reforms actually weakened the empire enough that combined with the mistake of allying with Germany in WW1, the allied winners crushed the turks, took their land, looted and pillaged its resources until they lost it again the WW2, and left it as a gigantic power vacuum.

So yes, you can blame the British and French for turning the relative stability of the Ottoman empire into fractured cities full of angry, hungry people ready to turn to fundamentalism and extremism. You can't blame the US (not until the Shah incident, and even then only partially). As time has passed, you can only blame the citizens who keep empowering leaders who keep them angry and desperately poor, generation after generation, but I guess it's tough when everyone who sees through the ruse is shot immediately.

I was only talking about history, and everyone involved in that history is dead and we can only deal with consequences. So lern2history before you knee-jerk that I'm some kind of mush-brain hippie spouting tripe like "we must let them do to us what our great-grandfathers' leaders did to them, it's only fair."

Because as long as people have free will, at least one person is going to choose to do something that hurts other people, for no logical reason at all.

Right, so I asked that because when Kymry writes,

Kymry: Why do so many men hate women?

We mainly just nod.
We don't think of how the vast majority of men don't hate women, or of the evils some women have done to some men.

But when the question is reversed,

RoyBatty: Why do so many women hate men?

We consider the evils some men have done to some women and we ask, "Who is this misogynist to even ask such a question!?"

No, more people suck than don't suck. Men and women alike, there's more hate and pain than love and joy across the species.
