Yeah... there's a mental image you really want to have.

I can't understand why someone with a professorship earned with a lifetime of scholarship would risk everything like that.

It's so bizarre (the legal risk-taking, I mean; the trans aspect is his own matter, and he's entitled to it) that I can't help but wonder if the payment was a last-minute suggestion by the undercover cop. The guy may have been merely looking for a hookup, and at the last moment

"Can I pay you $60 for a half hour? I get excited by that"
"Um, ok"
"You are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent..."

(or something a little more practiced than that, but you get the idea)

What the police describe as a transexual escort section of a website might simply be the trans classifieds. You'd think if the prof was a pro, he'd know to agree to be paid only for his general companionship for the evening

Well, either way, the good citizens of Gwinnett county can surely sleep a little more soundly tonight, secure in the knowledge that they're a little bit safer from the risk of inexplicably finding themselves having consensual sex with some dude in a dress. The cops responsible clearly deserve medals for their brave work to protect the weak-willed men of the Gwinnett county from this seductive menace.

walkerhound: Maud Dib: Whoa...gonna have to update his bio.

Current Projects:

A monograph on Iqbal and Goethe and editorship of the English-language translation (by Michael Metzger) of Katharina Mommsen's Goethe und die arabische Welt. With Peter Ochs, Professor in Judaic Studies at the University of Virginia, he is co-organizer of an international conference for October 2012 at the University of Georgia called "Reparative Reasoning: Bridging the East/West Divide in the Philosophy and Poetry of Muhammad Iqbal."

Well, since he's hooking on the side, you have to assume he isn't getting paid very much by UGA.

I'm curious how you distinguish that from a men's fishnet body suit. The buttons are on the other side?

Yes, they do. Turns out that there are people who pay taxes who value culture and intellect. Please pass that on to the person in line behind you at WalMart and to your next door neighbor in your trailer park.

Since it's a matter of sexual orientation, straight Farkers here looking at this individual and declaring "How about no" is similar to any of you looking at any man, mulling it over, and saying "Nah, I wouldn't do him." It's more than a bit redundant; as straight males, we're already not the intended audience, so our opinions about this person's attractiveness are rather irrelevant.

I'm Bi. Still no.

Ok. And, therefore... what?
My point still stands: Anybody who isn't oriented such that they themselves would seek a person of this type in the first place (and allegedly that's the niche market that was specifically being catered to, given that the listing was in transsexual classifieds-- no one was out to "trap" anyone) has no relevant opinion, as far as attractiveness goes.

In any case, you being Bi still doesn't tell me much about whether you're in the target demographic; for all I know, you like your men burly and macho and your women petite and curvy. Do you specifically have a thing for transvestites and/or gender blurring? If so, you may be in the minority in this thread that actually makes sense saying "no". What I said would still apply, all the same, to most people in this thread -- they're answering "No!" to a question no one would even ask them.

If we take your logic only a half-step further, and given that nobody has asked you for your opinion, you're clearly not allowed to express one. As you have done so anyway, consider your position may be at least somewhat hypocritical.

Oh, for heaven's sake. I never said they're not allowed to express their opinions -- just that that their opinions on the topic aren't particularly meaningful, since they're unlikely to be attracted by transvestites in the first place; it's like someone who only likes country music judging a reggae contest.

At this stage, I can't help but wonder if you're just deliberately missing my point, either out of some sentiment of "He's being too self-righteous; well, I'll take him down a peg or two!" or "I must defend the honor of Fark! Have at you, knave!", or simply out of sheer contrarianism.

a) So what? It's their time to waste.
b) And you think your opinion on this topic is particularly meaningful?
c) This is a Fark thread, oh Captain Obvious. I don't think anybody is deluded enough to think this thread would, could, or even should, mean a lick in the grand scheme of things.

Mostly "he's being a douche". I don't really care if you come down a peg or two. Your self-righteousness is your problem, not mine. Just so you have an inkling of how hypocritical it is to get snippy at my dismissive tone considering how dismissive you've been towards the others who've dared expressed an opinion you don't consider worthwhile enough... while you post on Fark.

/ Enjoy your Sunday.

*shrug* I can point out something that doesn't seem to me to make sense

Eh. True enough, I guess.

*sight* Yes, we're all one, big, snippy, futilely posting family. I get it.

...I did, actually, for reasons unrelated to Fark. Putting aside the absurd, fruitless little echo chamber of snippiness we had here, I hope you did, too.
