Benevolent Misanthrope: I was thinking the same thing, but no.

A couple of us are carpooling from Tacoma to Des Moines to Seattle if you're interested.

Hmm.. I do like the deluxe and don't have plans that night.. may wander in. I'm guessing a little estrogen will be a good thing.

Is the Deluxe kid friendly?

YAY! I was about to look up iamrex about that, but yes - I would be. EIP, thankyouverymuch.

I have a huge truck with a decent sized back seat, and would be happy to drive, if need be.

How about Applebee's in Lynnwood instead?

How about "no". ;)

I'm hitting Mt. Si this weekend (probably on Sunday) with my big pack, to help prep for my big climb. Game?

i've already arranged to do Lake 22 with some other microsofties sunday and i'm tied up saturday otherwise i would love to.

i haven't hit the trail in way too long too (with moving into my house, etc) so i shouldn't head straight into a bigger one either. i feel the need to get out into the mountains BAD .. been too long.

You will love Lake 22. If it is clear, the view up there is killer!

That said, meet-ups and parties are creepy. Capitol Hill makes it that much worse. Seriously, why not just make it at Pioneer square during the crack marathon hours? At least the crackheads are fun to watch. The Capitol Hill horse nodders... not so much.

Fark party hostess here. I would never schedule a party like this without patronizing the venue first, which I did about a week ago. The Deluxe is on the north end of Capitol Hill, across from Cornish College of the Arts, and right next door to the Harvard Exit Theater. No nodders to be found. Here's their website, including food and bar menu.

I've been there actually.

The Chicken Saltimboccha is reaally good. Have had it a couple of times. The Deluxe makes good food.

PluckYew: seumasokelly: PluckYew: Is this a close as the tour gets to PDX?

If you set up a party at Hopworks Urban Brewery, I'll gladly make the trip with my Sounders FC scarf flying.

That'll go over like a screen door on a battleship. I would say hope you can fight, but Portland isn't Philly, Boston or New York.

[www.filmsite.org image 160x126]

I got flipped off by a Portland Timbers fan last summer for wearing my Seattle Sounders jersey. In farking Pinerolo, Italy!

/No lie, I was there for the Tour de France, he was there for the beer.

Miss Stein: seumasokelly: Mariners finish the combined no-hitter! 4th no-hitter in team history.

Also, first combined no-hitter in team history. Go Mariners!

WRT the 358: I just hung up with a friend who drives for Metro, and she says there's no way in hell she'd ever drive the 358 route. Nor the 7 (Rainier Valley). We looked at alternatives to getting to Capitol Hill from North Aurora without taking the 358, like walking over to Meridian and catching the 346, but there's just no way that doesn't involve 2 or 3 transfers. Grrr - light rail can't get here soon enough.

How far north? Can you get over to Greenwood and catch a 5 to downtown? That bus is way better.

PluckYew: RancidSorbet: I love The Deluxe! Every time I go to Seattle, we end up there. Wish I could come meet some Farkers, but that weekend's no good for me.

We really do need a Portland Farkfest.

Yes we do but until someone plans one, Seattle is as close as this tour is to us.

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations? (EIP) What about other things to see in Seattle? I'm thinking about taking in the Tut exhibit that weekend.

I don't have any hotel recommendations but I can give you a free pass to the Woodland Park Zoo that expires at the end of the month. I won;t be using it and it is basically worth like $17. Worth the trip too. I will be at the Farking party.

Good luck finding a parking spot for those driving. You'd be better off parking downtown and catching a cab.

I'd go, but there is no way in hell I'm trying to find parking on Capitol Hill on a Friday night.

If you want to see the Tut thing and have a Costco card, they're selling tickets for $27. You do have to schedule yourself in advance, though, so I'm not sure how that would work for you. You should see it - it's the last time it will be in this country, or so they say.

You should go to Pike Place Market (yeah, I know, tourists and all... go anyway), and if you like to cook the World Spice Market. The Space Needle, if you've never been up it, is cool. Maybe go watch the Mariners lose...

If you haven't already done it, the Seattle Underground Tour is fun.

Skip the Tut thing. Not worth it. The big signature pieces you've seen on TV are not part of this exhibit. The "tut face" in the ads is a miniature about 3" across, and that is about literally the only gold piece in the entire exhibit. They do have some nice stone statues and this and that, but for the most part all the good stuff is not there.

The "death mask" and sarcophagi cannot be taken out of Egypt, so those are not there, and the exhibit itself is rather small, but there are some amazing pieces, I think.

(But of course I would think that these things were interesting, otherwise, I'd be unemployed, so take that with a grain of salt.)

Nice. The first time i ever went up, the ceiling was like 50 feet above my head in clouds - couldn't see nothing. Went up a week later and had a "holy shiat" moment when I saw that rock face at the far end of the lake in full sun. Pretty sweet spot.

You could always try the brand new Chihuly glass museum thingy that just opened at the Center. I hear it is pretty cool if you like twisted glass.

Its Pride Weekend, which means Capitol Hill will be fairly crowded with out of town tourists. For pay parking there's the QFC underground pay lot in the Broadway Market 3 blocks south on Broadway (entrance on Thomas) which could have a few spaces.

Anticipating a large Fark turnout for the party, so I'm considering having the two billiard tables covered, for additional sitting/drinking/noshing space. That will increase accommodations to 40 or so (by my estimate). However, if you're a diehard billiard player, let me know, and I'll leave one table uncovered.

My schedule, or lack of one, is indicating that I will be able to attend for a few hours. I do not plan on staying past 11, however.

The exception is that my budget has a gigantic hole in it. So if I'm going to have a drink or two, it'll have to be via an art trade. (I'm an illustrator. I doodle something for you, you buy me a drink. Rum or vodka cocktails preferred.)

If you're interested, just look for the Deaf guy in glasses.

I'll see you then - I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of people that take pleasure in highlighting the stupidity of the world's denziens. :P

I have to ride public transit from Lynnwood, but it shouldn't be a problem to get to the party. Getting home from the party is the bigger issue, though.
