I'm with you. These trolling pranksters think they're playing you for a fool, but some of us citizens out here can see what's really going on. Just shrug off their juvenile antics and keep pressing your argument, which is compelling.

In fact, out of respect for your erudition, I have applied some special technology (I could explain but it's complicated) to assure that your submissions to this forum are always marked for easy identification so that I may instantly give your posts their deserved attention.

intelligent comment below: Sabyen91: I didn't make the statement. I pulled your chain when you responded to the person that made the statement. (sigh) Fine. First, do you agree that the West Bank and Gaza are part of Israel?

No and Palestinians are not Israeli citizens.

Second, Israel treats Palestinians far better than any surrounding nation who are technically responsible for them since they started the wars.

If you can make a claim that Arab Israeli citizens live in apartheid in Israel then I will concede the point.

Jesus, could this guy be any more fat and sloppy?

This is the kind of jerk who probably thinks that the nation's youth is too stupid to vote because they'll vote for Obama. He probably buys into the whole "messiah" bullshiat too. He reminds me of the vast majority of College Republicans: fat, dorky and utterly unattractive. And always want to tell you how they're right.

So, continue to defund public education?

In a nutshell, Republican governance has morphed into a self defeating negative feedback loop who's designed purpose is to damage government, so they can criticize government, so they can get elected, in order to damage government, so they can criticize government, so they can get elected.......

Sorry... do you think I am young and don't vote or old and shouldn't? I am 45 years old and I am Indiana's token liberal and for all the good it does I do vote but in my rural county a liberal vote is a lonely thing.

My comment was meant to point out that something as abysmally stupid as Mr Jonah Golddouche's comment about youth can have an opposite and equally stupid comment made about the elderly. Both are grossly inaccurate generalizations

As a part of that faction known as America's "young adults", I absolutely agree.

Most people my age can't even name the 3 branches of government. These are people who have absolutely no understanding of how government and politics actually work and yet their vote means every bit as much as yours or mine when it comes to electing the person who will be representing us as a country; as a whole.

As with raising children, I think that this is something you should actually have to prove some kind of proficiency at before being able to participate. If you can't name the 3 branches, the name of our current president, and say...the name of the president who enacted the Emancipation Proclamation or the one who enacted the Patriot Act or whatever, some kind of test, then you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

It has nothing to do with bias or which side of the aisle you're on; you should just have to prove that you are actually informed on the issues and are therefore making an EDUCATED and INFORMED vote instead of just voting for the black guy or the one who most vehemently decries abortion.

dahmers love zombie: scottydoesntknow: Lorelle: Nah, they're too LAZY to vote.

I would say apathy plays a bigger role in it (which does feed into laziness).

Nowadays it's more about voting for the lesser of two evils instead of who will actually try to improve the country.

I can't stand Obama, but I hate Romney even more. Does that mean I should vote for Obama simply because I hate him less?

Let's say two guys come over to visit. The first one says "Vote for me, and I'll take a piss on your rug". The second one says "Vote for me, and I'll not only take a piss on your rug, I'll release a marmot in your bathtub and cut your dick off".

Now imagine that millions of other people are also voting on whether you only get your rug pissed on, or you also get further abused by nihilists. Oh, and there isn't a "neither one, please!" option - either way, your rug's getting pissed on. Your only choice is to attempt to keep your bathwater unmarmotted and your Chonson intact, or to let weirdos have their way with you.

Yes, the choice pretty much sucks balls. But there's clearly a better one.

2012-06-09 04:38:37 PM
Simply put, the election issue is between a) "trickle down" and "trickle up" economics. Pick a) the one we used when the economy tanked or b) the one we were using in our golden age.

If you need a tie-breaker, it's between a) no contraception or gheys b) MYOFB

That's all you need to know this year. Now go register to vote.

Really? You mean both sides aren't composed of pseudo-corporate-lackeys who represent their sponsorslobbyists more than their constituents? You mean both sides aren't infinitely more concerned with their status than serving the public they are supposed to be? You mean both sides don't compulsively lie? You mean that both sides actually give two farks about you and me!?

Well then tell me which side isn't doing this, then. I've clearly been following a different kind of politics than you have.

Actually, I know one thing, that the Democratic Party has a long list of positive accomplishments in the past 4 years. Not going to Google them for you, in fact, I would wager you know some of them. To me, this demonstrates that they do care about this country and the people who voted them in.

The Republican Party has accomplished exactly ZERO in the past 4 years, and nearly ruined this country ruling 8 years before that.

While it might be true that big business and people with sh*tloads of money control our political system, until you can point to another party to vote with, dispense with this "lesser of two evils" crap when you know damn well we benefit from Democratic Party rule in the White House and in Congress.

Nobody is going to stop electing Republicans if they keep believing the same lie about both parties. They're going to stay home.

2012-06-09 04:54:21 PM

whidbey: To me, this demonstrates that they do care about this country and the people who voted them in.

And yet they voted in NDAA.

If that's the kind of "care" they have, I wish they'd keep it.

I can think of at least two right off the top of my head.

TsukasaK: whidbey: To me, this demonstrates that they do care about this country and the people who voted them in.

And yet they voted in NDAA.

I'm sure you already know the accentuating circumstances behind NDAA, that Obama had vetoed it that the military would have been defunded per Republican insistence. It's kind of disingenuous to bring it up. We had no choice there. This is a good example of how the right-wing also dominates this country.

Yes, it's our fault we haven't given a conservative Democrat like Carl Levin the boot, you've got me there. McCain is a problem, though, and if he had not been in the Senate, I really have to wonder if this kind of legislation would have been pushed through right now.

You see, there are other factors here, and the whole "both sides bad" just sounds like a huge overgeneralization that, along with other examples, keeps cynical people from voting.

If that's the kind of "care" they have, I wish they'd keep it.

Sorry, but some vague platitude doesn't negate 4 years of accomplishments which actually do benefit us both. You're going to have to a lot better than that.

whidbey: until you can point to another party to vote with,

I can think of at least two right off the top of my head.

Two political parties that would attract tens of millions of voters?

I doubt it. The fact is that we have a viable effective party right now, and it needs your support.

And the more people who become involved in the process, the less apathy, and the more likely things change. That's the reality.

Exactly. These people who ignore politics and refuse to vote are THE reason why Democrats moved more moderate and less liberal and sold out to big business. It's a self fulfilling fantasy. Don't give Democrats enough votes, get upset when they require begging rich people for campaign funds.

Sabyen91: So...Israel should leave Gaza and the West Bank?

You don't seem very informed to me. Israel hasn't been in the Gaza Strip since 2005 and only patrols the borders of the West Bank, working with the PA who governs.

Sabyen91: And if we didn't give them money they would go to war? That is kinda what you said.

Wasn't that the point of the Marshal Plan? To create economic stability so the European countries wouldn't go to war again? That's what a peace process is. To give both sides incentive to not fight. I don't understand your obsession with using certain loaded words like a Karl Rove or Luntz character.

We all know Israel is the most democratic and free country in the entire region, allowing free practice of any religion and voting rights to all citizens.

But on fark and many other places, outraged liberals love picking on Israel because they feel they're big bad bullies against the little guy. The rest are just flat out anti-Semitic.

2012-06-09 06:30:35 PM

whidbey: Two political parties that would attract tens of millions of voters?

See, I farking hate this, because it's a self fulfilling prophecy.

"Vote third party! These jokers suck."
"Nah, nobody else stands a chance"
"......"

The day people start electing people they want and stop not electing people they don't want is the day the dichotomy breaks.
