Lionel Mandrake: It's safe to say calling a liberal a fascist is no longer taboo thanks to Jonah Goldberg's 2008 book Liberal Fascism, which served "as a template for those who wish to link Obama to Hitler", wrote Noah Lederman, of Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting. The book reasons like this: Hitler was a vegetarian; vegetarians are liberals; so liberals who criticise the meat-packing industry are really fascists.

Goldberg inspired Glenn Beck, who on Fox News made an art form of Nazi-baiting. Bailing out Detroit was like "the early days of Adolf Hitler", Beck said. Obama's expanding the Peace Corps was like Hitler's expanding the SS. And empathy in a Supreme Court judge, Beck said, is like the empathy to euthanise a disabled child.

This is what has become of the GOP

Congratulations, Republicans.

Aarontology: So are Southerners, but they get to vote.

Hey, I represent that remark.

I mean I'm a Southern, but I'm not too stupid to vote.

Except when they moved the polling station out of the midde school and I forget where it's at. Then I needed to stop by the grocery store for some ice cream and beer. And BBQ. Beer goes great with pulled pork. I don't care for the white sauce though.

What were we talking about?

2012-06-08 03:40:45 PM

scottydoesntknow: Lorelle: Nah, they're too LAZY to vote.

I would say apathy plays a bigger role in it (which does feed into laziness).

Nowadays it's more about voting for the lesser of two evils instead of who will actually try to improve the country.

I can't stand Obama, but I hate Romney even more. Does that mean I should vote for Obama simply because I hate him less?

Let's say two guys come over to visit. The first one says "Vote for me, and I'll take a piss on your rug". The second one says "Vote for me, and I'll not only take a piss on your rug, I'll release a marmot in your bathtub and cut your dick off".

Now imagine that millions of other people are also voting on whether you only get your rug pissed on, or you also get further abused by nihilists. Oh, and there isn't a "neither one, please!" option - either way, your rug's getting pissed on. Your only choice is to attempt to keep your bathwater unmarmotted and your Chonson intact, or to let weirdos have their way with you.

Yes, the choice pretty much sucks balls. But there's clearly a better one.

Jackson Herring: The thesis of his years-in-the-making (it was delayed repeatedly for mysterious reasons - presumably he just had a lot of deadlines) book "Liberal Fascism" was that the Nazis had "Socialism" in their name so Democrats are the real Nazis because Hitler was a vegetarian. ("Hitler claimed to be a dedicated vegetarian" is an actual piece of supporting evidence used in the book.) Actual historians and experts in 20th century fascism were less than impressed. (Another line: "The white male is the Jew of liberal fascism.")

Oh my

Hitler built freeways, Obama built freeways!! How can anyone then deny Obama is just like Hitler?

Mostly true, but kinda has always been that way.

They tend not to vote at all except in POTUS elections, have very little (if any) real political IQ, and are always on my lawn.

So yea.

No, seriously, that has never ended badly, ever. Young people are too farking stupid to vote so no one cares what they think.

Maybe if you can't figure out how to register to vote without someone shoving the form under your nose and filling out everything but your signature for you or does it for you automatically when you get a driver's license, you're too stupid.

Maybe if you can't figure out how to prove you are who you are when you vote, you're too stupid.

Maybe if you can't remember to vote unless someone knocks on your door or calls you with a reminder on election day, you're too stupid.

That's a big demographic.

2012-06-08 04:50:53 PM
Oh, and since nobody has mentioned it yet, not only does Jonah Goldberg think that young people shouldn't be allowed to vote, but he also thinks that they may need to be literally beaten by conservatives for believing in socialism? Money quote:

"The fact that young people think socialism is better than capitalism. That's proof of what social scientists call their stupidity and their ignorance. And that's something that conservatives have to beat out of them. Either literally or figuratively as far as I'm concerned."

What a farking twunt rag.
