So are a lot of rednecks.
Neither, however, are too stupid to be dangerous as cannon fodder in an armed revolt if they are disenfranchised. Thus, we allow both to vote.

Says the man who invented his "no tax pledge" at the age of eleven.

So are Southerners, but they get to vote.

2012-06-08 12:08:18 PM
Yeah yeah and the rich and the elderly are too stupid to accept that the world changes.

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Says the man who invented his "no tax pledge" at the age of eleven.

Wrong dude. Norquist was the tax pledge moron. Goldberg is the imbecile who tried labeling liberals as fascist.

I do find it funny when either of them tries to criticize the intellect of others.

"While I do think the voting age should be higher, I'm not in fact in favour of a national push to raise it, and I never said I was."

OK, who's the fricking moran again?

Isn't this story from like, last week?

2012-06-08 12:40:46 PM
They're stupid BECAUSE they don't vote.

2012-06-08 12:45:09 PM
If stupid people were too stupid to vote, Al Gore would've won in 2000.

/yeah, I went there

People from every single conceivable demographic are dumb.

Al Jazeera seems much more reasonable, Democratic, and um, American than Jonah Goldberg.

2012-06-08 12:59:04 PM
Nah, they're too LAZY to vote.

2012-06-08 01:02:17 PM
Yes, continue to rile up a youth that is already pretty riled up at their elders(read Baby Boomers).

That has never ended badly, ever.

2012-06-08 01:02:27 PM
The Jonah Goldbergs of the nation are, however, just stupid enough to be conservative pundits.

Nothing like smugness coming from a lard-assed momma's boy, who never worked a day in his life, doesn't have anything that wasn't given to him by his mommy, and hasn't been right about, well, anything since he started vomiting out his nonsense on the internet and in print...

I knew a girl in elementary school who had scholiast. She had to wear a brace, and I feel bad for using her as my own personal coat rack.

His mother Lucianne Goldberg's history is sordid enough. In 1972, she was paid by a friend of Richard Nixon to spy on the McGovern campaign and the reporters covering it, posing as a member of the press. She became an anti-women's liberation activist and campaigned against the Equal Rights Amendment. Eventually she became a literary agent (and ghostwriter) specializing in gutter-scraping attack jobs, starting with unauthorized celebrity biographies and branching out, when Bill Clinton was elected, into conspiratorial books accusing him and Hillary of various crimes. The "Vince Foster was murdered by the Clintons" story? That's one of hers.

Wow, poor Jonah never had a chance did he.

2012-06-08 01:39:15 PM
Does this mean we need to defer kids from joining the military until 21 too? Is that a decision that 18 year olds are to frickin' stupid to make too?

Mind you, this is the same idiot who popularized the idea of equating socialism and fascism...

2012-06-08 01:41:01 PM
The thesis of his years-in-the-making (it was delayed repeatedly for mysterious reasons - presumably he just had a lot of deadlines) book "Liberal Fascism" was that the Nazis had "Socialism" in their name so Democrats are the real Nazis because Hitler was a vegetarian. ("Hitler claimed to be a dedicated vegetarian" is an actual piece of supporting evidence used in the book.) Actual historians and experts in 20th century fascism were less than impressed. (Another line: "The white male is the Jew of liberal fascism.")

Oh my

How often do you see a non-economist academic writing op-eds in the U.S.?

We get AJE as part of our standard cable package. The little I've seen is easily the calmest, least emotional discussion on television. It makes PBS look like WWE.

Lorelle: Nah, they're too LAZY to vote.

I would say apathy plays a bigger role in it (which does feed into laziness).

Nowadays it's more about voting for the lesser of two evils instead of who will actually try to improve the country.

I can't stand Obama, but I hate Romney even more. Does that mean I should vote for Obama simply because I hate him less?

2012-06-08 02:36:49 PM
Muslim Al Jazeera is chiding Goldberg for calling Obama a Nazi? Is that what just happened here?

2012-06-08 02:38:33 PM
So is Jonah Goldberg, but we let him vote. Maybe if we invested more in education...

Seriously though this is the difference between a right (voting) and a privilege (drivers license).

Oh sweet. It's on our Time Warner here too, but it's a non-HD channel with grainy audio for some reason. I prefer to watch it from the website live streaming.

The only show that gets contentious sometimes is Inside Story, especially when you get an arab and a jew on there hollering at each other. I usually turn it off.

Also the wife doesn't like the Africa documentaries where they show starving and dead children and stuff, she always makes me turn that off.

2012-06-08 02:47:11 PM
That kind of pisses me off. I thought he was pretty good in "Superbad," and he surprised me with his performance in "Moneyball." Then he turns around and says this. Well, I never...

Jonah Goldberg is too stupid to know the difference between a liberal and a fascist.

I don't think that's it. Young people actually tend to vote more in presidential elections. Local elections are way more consequential for everyday life and often offer up good candidates. Yet, I have never seen young people when I go to vote for local elections. That's only anecdotal of course, the research backs this up as well.

2012-06-08 03:02:30 PM
So only white men who own property should vote? Just come out and say that already.

I wish I could challenge this feeb to a debate on pretty much any topic. I bet I could make him cry, or at the very least make him throw a temper tantrum and run away.

So... old enough to die for your country, but not old enough to have a say in how it's run...
Where have I heard that before?

It's safe to say calling a liberal a fascist is no longer taboo thanks to Jonah Goldberg's 2008 book Liberal Fascism, which served "as a template for those who wish to link Obama to Hitler", wrote Noah Lederman, of Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting. The book reasons like this: Hitler was a vegetarian; vegetarians are liberals; so liberals who criticise the meat-packing industry are really fascists.

Goldberg inspired Glenn Beck, who on Fox News made an art form of Nazi-baiting. Bailing out Detroit was like "the early days of Adolf Hitler", Beck said. Obama's expanding the Peace Corps was like Hitler's expanding the SS. And empathy in a Supreme Court judge, Beck said, is like the empathy to euthanise a disabled child.

This is what has become of the GOP

Congratulations, Republicans.
