Before we start Euro 2012, let's take a moment to remember Paul the Octopus. RIP, you wonderful mollusk.

2012-06-08 11:19:27 AM
I remember Paul well, with a little bit of lemon juice and minced parsley.

I'm looking forward to watching a few Euro 2012 games... but more importantly, I'm interested in this weekend's South American WC qualification games.

VAMOS, CHILE MIERDA...

my headline;
Poland gets ready for the Euro 12 cup by taunting Dutch team during their practice. No one told them that Greece was the word of the team they are playing today.
im glad we have a thread!

And now we go to the euro cup betting odds

The over/under on racist slurs coming from the stands 1000
Total number of dives 23
goals 0
mullets on field 20
mullets in the crowd approaching infinity.
Pics in thread of hot euro chicks wearing their counties colours : 5

And once again staking my claim to ownership of the line about Germany's Mesut Özil, particulary when he commits a foul: "Özil's as clumsy as he is stupid."

also preemptively staking my claim to jokes about Germany's Mario Götze, particularly his ability to stretch the field to its limits and/or rip vast, gaping holes in the net. or tear backlines to their very limits

That's right Europe have your little soccer tournament while the continent crumbles around you....

Now that that is out of the way bring on the babes painted with their country's flag!

Go Polska!!

My money is on Germany to win this thing.

I hope for the sake of Poland and Ukraine that the racist crap ends now. The whole world is watching and it would be beyond sad to see these two countries embarrass themselves after doing so much to get this tournament up and running.

This song is so silly, but I've played it once a day for the past week.

This.

//Never going to happen.

Okay, we must all remember to not reference the war. DON'T REFERENCE THE WAR.

Now, you look at the teams, you have to think that Germany can win the whole thing, which is a very German thing to do: just run into Poland and take whatever they...ah, crap.

New keyboard. You owe me one.

Anyone else hear someone pronounce UEFA (yoo-ay-fa) and think UIFA? I think I'm spending too much time here.

Also hoping that the racist garbage ends before it really gets going.

Italy is down.....I saw in ESPN's preview they gave Eire a 25% chance to get out of D or whatever (E?) but....WE'RE DUE, DAMMIT

Ahhhh, Bob Ley. The Curt Menefee of international soccer.

2012-06-08 11:43:46 AM
I'm rooting for Germany, but I think Spain is going to win again.

I guess Poland has rednecks to.

Polska!!!

I expect Spain to win the whole thing though.

I like Bob Ley, but he's out of his element during these tournaments. ESPN have Andrew Orsarti right there ready to go, just use him. Are they truly afraid of British accents? The people that will be watching this don't mind, I can assure you.

My money's on Greece for the opener. I don't think home advantage will be enough to swing it for Poland.

2012-06-08 11:48:01 AM
My Germany jersey should arrive today. Held together with the sweat and tears of Chinese orphans.

I suppose I have to root for England as well, seeing as how the team is full of Liverpool players (sorry, England fans).

2012-06-08 11:48:54 AM
I'm all about La Furia Roja buuuuuut I actually think Germany will win it this year. Spain's missing a few key players from '08 and Germany is looking for revenge from the WC.
/as long as France doesn't win will be happy, though
//also rooting for Ireland for sentimental (and ancestral) reasons

2012-06-08 11:50:00 AM
Wooo Euros!

Don't forget Poland!

/and there is dubstep in the opening ceremony

It's absolutely unconscionable that EPSN is not using the Men in Blazers as part of their overall TV coverage.

Yeah, the Liverpool guys make me root for England, but that also means that England won't be able to score because Post hates Liverpool players

LOVE those two. Just recently discovered them on the Grantland podcast. So, so SO good.

National Anthems!

It's nice that the Liverpool players will get a chance to experience finishing in the top four of the table.

Can Poland bankrupt the Greeks? Let's find out!

If it makes you sort of feel better, Roger Bennet is going to do some Gamecasts I believe. He's already been writing articles for ESPNFC.

Ah, yes. A ton of Liverpool players on the England side. Meaning England will play well and never score.

No matter what political or economical calamities may befall the world, these events are transient. We rest easy in the knowledge that binge drinking football fans, and the haggard Eastern European prostitutes that solicit them, eternally march on. March on. March on, I say. By Gods, March On.

I'd like to see Poland do well since they have three Dortmund players in the lineup.

With any luck the ManU, Chelski and Stoke players can make up for the 'pool players.

I'm praying for a Germany/Nederlands final. It will be a bloody fight that will make the World Cup final look like a polite disagreement.
