If it does, prepare for two weeks of stories about the heavy doping of horses, and the general craziness that are horse people.

2012-06-08 09:13:39 AM
Ok, the horses name is I'll Have Another, and it's been 34 years.

All of fark should get behind this horse, as he's basically NAMED FOR US!

I don't see how running a train on the horse will help it's chances of winning the Triple Crown.

WTF Indeed: I don't see how running a train on the horse will help it's chances of winning the Triple Crown.

Well, it will certainly run faster!!

I know I said something to this effect before, but Happy Wall of Traffic at the Nassau/Queens Border Eve!

I may join a few friends in the infield, we'll see. It's sort of weird that I'm from Long Island and have been to the Preakness but not the Belmont. If I do go I'm definitely taking the train, as should anyone planning on going.

I put money down on I'll Have Another for the Derby (he was my second pick to win), and I went with him for the Preakness, too. But, he almost got overtaken at the end of the Preakness, and that never bodes well for a horse trying to win the Belmont Stakes.

I'll Have Another won me another beer during the Derby. What amazes me is that anyone bet AGAINST him.

He wasn't the favorite, but he was the hot hand coming into the race having won three straight before the Derby. A buddy of mine writes a column on horse racing and he tipped me off before the race. I don't follow it that closely, but my friend hit the superfecta at the Derby last year. He won a LOT of money for that. He didn't tell me how much, but confessed he had a ton of paperwork to fill out for the IRS. I roughly estimated he hauled something just under $200k off of hitting that off a $100 bet.

The trainer of I'll have another is a notorious doper, he is under investigation.

The owner of the horse is also under investigation for fraud, he owns a payday loan operation.

Class acts.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, that there are disreputable characters associated with horse racing. Henceforth, I shall stick to untainted sports, such as boxing.

Yeah. The only way this could a be worse story for horse racing is if the owner was a convicted mobster.

Just because the owner might be a scumbag doesn't lessen the achievement of the horse, unless the horse was involved in the shady loan business, in which case DON'T STEAL MY SCREENPLAY IDEA

I just realized that Belmont, unlike Pimlico, does not let people in the infield. So...I guess I'd be elsewhere then.

My cool Belmont story, bro: Back in the high school lacrosse days we had an away game against Floral Park. Floral Park's field is located across the street from Belmont's back stables, and it happened to be a rainy day. As you might imagine, the smell was just delightful.

Um... there's a press conference scheduled for 1pm EDT and rumors are flying that the horse may be scratched from tomorrow's race.

Edit: His trainer just said on the Dan Patrick radio show that the horse is OUT!

I'm sure that there's a perfectly honest & logical explanation & not that Ryan Braun would have a better chance of passing a drug test than this horse.

Only the racing career.

The stud career is just starting. Derby and Preakness winner? He'll get all the mares he can handle, and his owner will be rolling in dough.

Well, yeah, but most folks outside the Commonwealth don't worry about that. But, yes, he'll have a nice home on Paris Pike, and sex like a porn star.

So we wont hear about it for an hour or so until ESPN figures out how to take credit for it?

The trainer will soon be serving a suspension for doping horses. I don't think that is a conspiracy, more like proof that the guy has cheated in the past.

I always wonder how much influence the sport wields to get a horse that wins the Derby to win the Preakness, because interest in Belmont is directly proportional to the likelihood that a horse is running for the Crown.

I go to the belmont most years (was planning on going tomorrow, but will most likely pass now, and just go to the Meadowlands). The difference between a triple crown bid and not is about 75,000 people (over 100k during one, maybe around 40k without one). I've got to imagine the difference in TV numbers are in line with that as well.

Also horse racing really needs a big story like a triple crown win if it wants to survive.

LineNoise: Also horse racing really needs a big story like a triple crown win if it wants to survive.

Are you talking about horse racing, or the product the networks try to inflate into major sporting event status?

2012-06-08 12:27:29 PM
My Conspiracy theory:

The NTRA called the trainer told him they didn't even want to risk that the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed would be a doper. They told him in no uncertain terms that he would never run another horse in this country if "I'll Have Another" ran tomorrow.
