Sgt Otter: The Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB) is also strictly awarded to soldiers who are either Infantry or Special Forces who have been in direct combat with the enemy. Medics get Combat Medical Badges (CMB), and everybody else gets a Combat Action Badge (CAB). As a Supply specialist, he would have earned a CAB, if he had actually gotten into a firefight with the enemy (not just deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq and stayed on the base). There's no "I was assigned to an infantry battalion, so they gave me a CIB" rule, either.
