I think the only thing RS actually sells any more are extended warranties.

These days the only questions they ask are about your current mobile plan.

Shack, Hut, Cabana... These are not really trust-inspiring words.

Unless you're on a tropical island and near the beach.

But can you still get a giant receipt printed on a dot matrix printer?

You've got questions. They've got batteries.

I respond M5E 1X8 whenever I'm asked my Zip Code. I used to restate it as "M as in Mike Harris"...

I gotta say radio shack has become the place to go for the little stuff you need for you household electronics.

I just recently bought a HDTV. I still need to get HDTV boxes from direcTV, and for some oddball reason my TIVO stopped showing local channels. Anyhow Radio shack was the only place to get an OTA antenna anywhere near me. I know I could get it cheaper online but when you need it NOW the shack likely has what I need.

What happened to that whole "The Shack" business? Did they realize how stupid it sounded?

No flames coming from here. I get all sorts of crap from Radio Shack for the same reason - I need that sh*t now. There's a store smack downtown where I get all my adapters, wiring, repair stuff, etc (the Best Buy is way out in the suburbs). Once bought a budget, emergency laptop at RS because I needed one that night. Sold it on Craigslist for only a little less than I paid.

The Shack serves a purpose.

Just tell them you live in Hong Kong. There's no official postal code there.

I haven't been asked for that in years. But then, I haven't been into one in years. Though I am happy to see they're riding the Maker bandwagon. I may just spring for an Arduino soon.

Not true any more. They seem to have made a serious move to serve the electronics/gizmo hobbyists again. Velleman kits, Arduino boards, decent entry-level solder equipment. I actually like browsing RS again.

I remember buying a printer cable there once and having them ask me for my phone number. I should have said no but I didn't want to seem rude so I just made one up. I haven't been to Radio Shack in probably a decade, I order stuff like that online now.

I ♥ Newegg.
