CrankyAndi: whooopappaya: Happy Caturday!

Question: Does anyone have an experience treating a cat with cystitis? It turns out that it's what Timon's misdiagnosed bladder infection is & that it was all the soft food & chicken broth we gave to him that made him better, as opposed to the antibiotics for the UTI. We've switched him back to the soft food & broth diet, but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience dealing with this.

The little dehydrated guy in question:

[farm9.staticflickr.com image 500x375]

My cat Robin has bladder cystitis. He gets 1/2 of a 10 mg pill of amitriptyline 2 times a day. The first few weeks he slept for long times after he took the pill...but then his body adjusted and he became a regular cat who takes an antidepressant. Last fall we tried to see how he would do off of the pills. Within a week he was having bladder issues again (peeing inappropriately) so back on the pills he went. I've gotten very good at pilling him. It isn't hard, you just have to be in charge when it comes to giving the dang pill. A missed dose won't be horrible but it is best to be consistent and give the pills 2 times a day.

Last week I got 100 pills uncut for $13.00 from my vet. I cut them myself then. They've cut them for me too but this time I said yeah, I can do it. I didn't want to wait.

The kitty on antidepressants in question.

Robin is adorable, what a ham. Thanks for the advice! Timon seems to be doing much better on just soft food and more liquids, but I'll have to keep amitriptyline in mind if just the diet alone doesn't help.

micromedic: cato113, Bless both your hearts. Did the vet have any idea what the problem was? is it his teeth? Can you try kitten formula or gushy food? It is soooo very difficult. He seems uncomfortable, as in general malaise, but pain? That might be of some comfort. Try low sodium chicken or beef broth heated up to see if that doesn't get fluids in him.

I am sorry to hear he is in bad shape but it seems to me you are just what he needs. We here on Caturday are here for you!

I am sending comfort, strength and help : )

Thanks, I'll get some of the broth and kitten formula right now and see if that helps.

At my Mom's house the caption would read, "I'm taking a nap now, hope you don't need to use the bathroom any time soon"....

Eli likes to sleep on my sewing table. So often I am moving fabric over him as I sew...If I haven't needed to remove him from the fabric I want to sew! :)

Lurv my cat. Lurv my family. Sometimes in that order!

robohobo: Wife and I have to put down our gorgeous little troublemaker. Today. Tomorrow. Monday at the latest, We got her when she was just a few weeks old, and she's a few months shy of 11 now. She's in so much pain and its not farking fair. We only found out last night. Rapidly spreading cancer. Wifes been in crrying hysterics. I've thrown up so much it's just blood now. I hate this and I hate that i have to kill the best friend I've ever had. I hated that little girl at first. Now I'd give my years for her. I can't stand this. I don't know what I'm going to do. I love her so much.

You are not killing your best friend.. you are a compassionate responsible person who doesn't want to see a loved one suffer, and therefore you have to make the tough decision... and it is never easy. I found a stray kitten.. she purred so loud she buzzed, and she would bomb around the house.. therefore, Buzzbomb.. we were bonded.. she slept on the pillow by my head, helped me with paperwork.. she was awesome.. suddenly seemed in pain.. my vet checked her out and found a huge tumour in her head..inoperable.. I made the decision and stopped her suffering... I cried for days.. last December lost Quiz, 21 years, and three weeks later Squeak, 20+ years.. We welcome these creatures into our lives, knowing that they have a short lifespan, and knowing that we will see them pass.. they enrich our lives as we enrich theirs... but we do have responsibilities that hurt us greatly.. remember the enjoyment you received from your friend, and know that you have done what is best for your friend.. there weren't any other options. Give yourself time to grieve. When the time is right, visit a shelter and let a new friend find you. It's all part of life and being a caring human being. We all grieve with you.. God Bless.....

And now, to make you all hungry......corn on the cob, bratwurst, green salad for dinner and strawberries for dessert. I think I am going to set the quart out, provide bowls, and let family nibble...no muss no fuss!

Meanwhile my tack is clean, my saddle pad as white as it is going to be, and even my girth fuzzy is clean. Fun show tomorrow. And it's going to be 87. Fun?! (riding pants, half chaps, long sleeve show shirt, and vest)...I think I will be buying tons of water!

Wish me luck! I'm doing English Pleasure Equitation and English Pleasure. Both are walk/trot. Once you canter at this show, you can't go back to a lower class. So I am "saving" myself! :)

cato113: I'm having a bad Caturday, my cat Frenic, is not doing well...I don't want him to be in pain, but I'm having a hard time making a decision.

To the both of you, and anyone else I may have missed, as others have said, it is never easy making this decision - but there comes a point in time that you have to do what is best for them, and not you. I have posted this before, please pay close attention to the last 2 paragraphs, I hope it helps.

I almost forgot about the movie that made Katherine Hepburn a household name.
I think it got all kinds of Oscars, including for special sound effects.
The interesting part was in theaters with sub-standard sound systems, the audience had a hard
time distinguishing between the sounds of the engine and the lead actress marching through the mud...

tigerose: AlienDandelion Is Gremlin living with you again? That's wonderful! I looked, no Loaded Ruffles here. Too bad, made me hungry! :)

No unfortunately he is not.
He is permanently at my co-worker and friends neighbors house.
He has fully situated himself in there with his two older ladies and he loves the constant love and attention he gets that I could not
provide him since I'm in the hospital so much and not home nearly enough now.
But that is ok - I get to see him, I get updates all the time and get to hear him quite loudly and plainly over the phone - he complains if she talks to
me but the moment she starts petting him I can hear his very loud rumbling purr over the phone - almost overtakes her voice ha ha!
He's still in his "lets see how far I can push her buttons" stage and has started a new battle using the kitchen counter as his chosen place of war.
I am sure it will not be one he will win ha!

I have a question for you guys.

My apartment backs up to a big man made pond. We get a LOT of geese, as well as ducks and seagulls. Several of my neighbors feed them on a regular basis. I can't really do anything about the feeding, because the management company apparently doesn't care. I can't use my patio because the birds are pretty aggressive and I've been... I don't want to say "attacked" but that's the best I can think of.

What I would like to know is this: Is there something I can do to keep them away from my little patio area? I would prefer something humane, and that won't affect my neighbors. Ideally something I can put out there that would make the birds prefer to avoid a specified area.

Big time condolences to robohobo & lady wife for impending loss of the girl-cat who's run your lives for all of hers. captain feedback fetched a good & feeling Condolence to offer you, for which I too thank him. It may be the Egyptian Book of the Dead where 'tis written that they you've loved, live forever & furr-ever in your hearts.
Jarhead_h, Fang Q for the pic of the cat with rear support. That was what I'd hoped to get for the late Cheeky, fave cat of all time we brought/had sent from W Berlin when Plumbicon's 2d Army hitch ended, when she suffered a stroke in 1993, closing in on age 20. This predated computers in widespread use, didn't have the fast access to Helpful Devices we now have.
kevinboehm, conga-cats & fang q for taking Necco in.
captain feedback, fang q also for the buncha pix! Esp "Compooter not gib yoo lubs", the floofy ear tufts & the advancing group of 4. That screeches for a caption that I'm not thinking of right away, but excellent pic. All you fetched this time are! Also glad you're back!
& Igor Jakovsky. The wee girl is grey. The wife of an earl is a countess. Too bad there's no good easy play on Earl Grey Tea for her. Mayhap there is, I'm just not thinking of it. Shall return to GoodSearch & revisit the whole Nobility titles string, gotta be something decent.
