Flint Ironstag: PizzaJedi81: Oldiron_79: So are they gonna have the Legion of Doom?

Nah...if they're just gonna copypasta The Avengers, it'll probably be Rann/Thanagarian spillover.

Will they have to fight a giant spider in the third act?

Nah, that'll be the fake big bad they defeat in the first act.

9beers: What sucks about Aqua Man is that the story has to be written in a way as to give him something to do. Without water, he might as well stay home and let the other heroes handle it.

The Superfriends version, maybe. But considering that Aquaman is insanely strong (like, Superman-levels) and fast even on land (as a result of being able to survive deep-sea pressures), is the ruler of a technologically-advanced kingdom that covers 75 percent of the planet? He's actually got tons of badass potential. It's just rare that people know how to exploit that potential.

Oh, and he can control EVERYTHING that lives in the sea.

"A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said..."

A friend of a friend of a friend said it is cool. Uh-huh.

Look, there is a reason the Avengers did well. People like the Avengers. Lots of people bought the comic books. The Justice League??? Gawd, you had to put it in the middle of Saturday morning cartoons just to get kids to know who these clowns were...the bottom line is that you simply don't have a solid voluntary fan base. Nobody gives a rat's ass about Aquaman. Nobody ever did. GL has teh ghey now, so the movie will have to pander to that, the Flash on film means trite headache-inducing blur effects, Superman is a dick and so freaking predictable that he would be a snap to defeat for anyone with a realistically intelligent brain, Wonder Woman...well, she has boobs, so there is that going for you, and without the dark psychological background, Batman is nothing but a guy with a lot of really cool and expensive toys.

There are only two reasons I would go to watch this movie even if it ended up sweeping the Oscars (unlikely). Reason One: WW's boobs. Reason Two: To see WW in a sitting position flying around the sky because her plane is invisible. That made me laugh in the cartoons because of how stupid it looked, and I can not imagine it would be any different in live action.

Fark this, it is a more stupid idea than the 3 Stooges.

LOL at the Marvel Zombies on this thread. Avengers movie stole its story flat from Justice League comics and cartoons.

What? Scared about little Batman and his pals punching a hole in your reality?

Anyway, WB will drop the ball. I know it.

Unless they do this:

They should hire Grant Morrison or Mark Waid to do a JLA story treatment. Considering both wrote introductions to the League with New World Order and Year One, they're perfect for it.

And both stories even got adapted/merged for the DCAU cartoon, so you know they're legit.

Also, they should hire a good director, someone who cares, present the framework he needs to work with and LET HIM DO it. No farking suits meddling. Suits are useless.

J.J. Abrams or Brad Bird are great choices.

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Flash
Green Lantern
Cyborg (Covers both the black quota and the tech character audiences would expect)

Aquaman, but only if they get rid of the name. I like Arthur a lot, but always despised the name. It's stupid. He has zero reason to use it. It's like still saying the Sub-Mariner when referring to Namor.

No Martian Manhunter. Sorry, but it only works in comics and cartoons. No movie with Martians has ever turned a profit. And we live in an era where we KNOW Martians don't exist.

They should still do a Hyperclan storyline where a group of aliens come here and have epic fights with each of the League.

AdolfOliverPanties: Abandon this film idea. Anyone outside Geekville will consider it an Avengers copycat.

And they will be 100% correct.

Just sayin', there have been no serious attempts to create a Justice League movie property. Without the Avengers, there would never have been such an attempt, and you can be damned sure it'll crib as many pointers from its predecessor as possible.

Hell, the two comics properties copy each other harder than Pepsi and Coke to begin with.

//Also, this movie is gonna suck. How do I know? It's what Millar thinks "dark and gritty" means. Hope you enjoy 120 minutes of the shiat you haven't thought was edgy since your one-month goth phase in junior high.

Kome: Teufelaffe: Mugato: Except with the exception of Batman and Superman Wonder Woman, the JL is lame.

Superman is beyond lame. Hey! Let's make a completely indestructible character whose only weakness is a specific material that is either incredibly rare or about as easy to obtain as chewing gum, depending on what the current batch of writers are in the mood for. Then, the only way we can build any sense of tension for the character at all is to have that material show up in every. freaking. story.

Been a while since I've read anything DC, but I think it's even worse than that now. He slowly built up an immunity to kryptonite (kind of like Wesley did for iocane powder in The Princess Bride) so now his only weakness is magic.

Actually DC just rebooted their entire line a year ago. So Superman is vulnerable to kryptonite.

And the most recent pre-boot Superman I read was a long run of Batman/Superman which probably ran to about 2009 and he was vulnerable to Kryptonite in that too.

Either-way they can now safely going back to way over using kryptonite.

Baseless assertion is baseless. I'm sure if it's true you can clearly point out specifics.

Marvel introduced the idea of character depth in its superheroes back in the sixties, and DC has been riding Marvel's jock even since.

I suspect their actual movie plan was to sit back and watch Marvel bankrupt themselves crashing and burning on The Avengers.

They are now in panic mode.

Add me to the long list of people who would LOVE to see a Justice League movie, but have absolutely zero faith in DC pulling this off. I guess we can judge their seriousness though by seeing what if any allusions to other DC heroes will be in The Man of Steel.

GL cameo at the end maybe?

I'm borderline geekville, but eh, I'd see a copycat if it was neat. I thoroughly enjoy superhero crap.

But, at the same time, fark superman. He's lame as hell. Anything strong enough to give him a fight without kryptonite could destroy the world before the two got close to finishing eachother. It's ridiculous.

Uh...no. If you don't know what you're talking about, just shut up. For decades Avengers was an inviable franchise. Heck, Marvel even leased it to Rob Liefeld and Jim Lee in the 90s to see if they could get it running. Nope. And that was after giving Cap armor, turning Tony into a teenager and taking Thor's godhood away.

After Blade success in the late 90s, Hollywood started snatching Marvel properties left and right. FOX got X-Men, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Universal got Hulk, Sony got Spider-Man and Ghost Rider, etc. The only properties nobody even looked at? Avengers. In hindsight, it ended up being better that way.

It's only when Mark Millar did the reimagination called The Ultimates that the ball really got rolling. Before that, comics Avengers were the lame-ass version of the Justice League. It's not a coincidence that the Marvel movie universe is based around it.

After Ultimates, Marvel and Brian Bendis started incorporating more and more of that version into the regular Avengers.

Both Marvel and DC have done "aliens side with major villain and fight superhero groups" storylines MANY times throughout their history. Hell, even Archie did with the Sonic the Hedgehog comic, the various Freedom Fighter groups of Mobius and Doctor Eggman versus the Xorda aliens.

Troll harder next time.

He also returned the Star power to the Avengers, The Ultimates and Bendis' work with the regular Avengers built those characters back up and created a brand that could rival the Justice League in popularity (and often outsold it).

Marvel running with it with their movie verse has now made the name Avengers house hold names. Its really amazing how quickly it all changed.

Announced today or yesterday. (They all blend together for me) though it was rumored for a while. This will be the last season. To be replaced in stead with a different Avengers cartoon MORE similar to the movies and simultaneously in continuity with the much less loved Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

DC has told that story before, about 20 times actually. but we could go back further. The alien invasion plot is pretty standard. No one said the Avengers had a mind blowing original storyline. Just that it was a beyond awesome movie.

FreetardoRivera: DC cleans the clock with marvel in the animated series department.

Which is one of the big reasons why DC properties don't transfer to film as well as Marvel ones. DC has saturated the animated market since the 90s with tv shows to the point that any live-action film will pale in comparison. They lucked out with Nolan and Batman, but it wasn't like Bats didn't have a live-action history. Plus he's "believable" in a real-world setting. Some rich dude with gadgets fighting gangsters? Sure. A guy in tights who can be crippled by a real estate agent with a pinky ring? Not so much.

Look at how well Green Lantern did. Can you see that version of the Green Lantern living in the same world as Nolan's Batman? The biggest complain was that it was too "cartoony".

The fact is, DC is built for animated shows, and they should push their animation studios to making full length animated features with a wide-release. Not straight to video.

When people think DC, they think of saturday morning cartoons. When they think of Marvel, they think of Raimi's Spiderman, the X-men films, and all of the films leading into the Avengers.

Hell heres a guy (Back before the movie came out) trying to guess the identity of Loki's army, and while he was wrong, he points out several scenes of the movie CLOSELY resemble a climactic showdown in a Marvel comic that predates those episodes of Superman by some time.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/02/05/lokis-army-revealed-avengers-s u perbowl-trailer-know-who-they-ish/

That's from Thor #350ish from the 80s.

they even have the flying scooter things (Which was far from original when the comic did it, let alone when Superman the animated series or The Avengers did it)

All three of these stories are built around common tropes of the Superhero genre, and all three were awesome, but neither one is significantly original.

HULK SMASH!

My ideal individual battles from that line up?

Hulk vs Batman - It'd be nice to see Bats go up against someone who would smash through most of his preparations.
Superman vs Black Widow - Because he'd be pulling his punches big time, while she'd be using all of her spy skills simply to stay ahead of the fight.
GL vs Iron Man - Dunno, just think it'd be fun to see.
Flash vs Thor - Thunder vs lightning, too perfect.
Wonder Woman vs Cap - Eh...they were leftover. Still be interesting to see.

PizzaJedi81: ronin7: The alien invasion plot is pretty standard.

HG Wells did it first!

Hes just rippin' off hindu mythology! (watched to many ancient alien shows, forgive me)

ronin7: DC has told that story before, about 20 times actually. but we could go back further. The alien invasion plot is pretty standard. No one said the Avengers had a mind blowing original storyline. Just that it was a beyond awesome movie.

Oh, I know, but this one was so specific like a Darkseid story, it made me enjoy the movie even more since a JLA movie is still far from existing XD
Heck, I doubt you can even find a Marvel alien invasion with the same elements in the comics. They always go about other ways. Skrulls impersonating, Kree launching a wide attack, Shi'ar wanting to blow up the planet, Alien council making Earth an alien prison (looking at you, Maximum Security), etc.

rocky_howard: Thanos = Darkseid
The portal = Boomtubes
The Tesseract = The Warlogog
The "Chitauri" = Parademons
Loki = Steppenwolf

Taking these one by one:

The Thanos/Darkseid one I'll grant.

The portal = boomtubes: Really? You're going to quibble over which comics house first introduced wormhole-travel?

The Tesseract = The Warlogog: Cosmic Cube first appeared in 1966, Warlogog in 1997.

The "Chitauri" = Parademons: Chitauri are Ultimate universe counterparts to Skrulls. Aside from Parademons being to Darkseid what Chitauri are to Thanos, I don't see much basis for comparison.

Loki = Steppenwolf: Loki appeared in 1965, Steppenwolf in 1972.

Looks to me that most of your complaint is that the movie stole back ideas that DC stole originally from Marvel, with the exception of Thanos/Darkseid.

BroVinny: ronin7: PizzaJedi81: FirstNationalBastard: Ah, Pink Kryptonite... created by Peter David back when DC comics were worth reading.

Gadzooks, i love Peter David. Sir Apropos is one of my favorite books.

He is, for my money, one of the best comic book writers working today.

Um...he IS still working, right?

I don't think hes worked with either Marvel or DC in several years. I am not sure what if anything else hes published since then. (might be wrong though)

I just remembered, he's also been scripting the Dark Tower series for Marvel. I imagine that's a lot less work now that the stories are being adopted from the novels, though.

As far as I know, Peter David has been writing X-Factor since 2005, and still is.

/Just because it's called X-Factor doesn't mean it sucks. In fact, it's a very unconnected X-Title. Plus, that was where PAD made Shatterstar gay.

ronin7: Hell heres a guy (Back before the movie came out) trying to guess the identity of Loki's army, and while he was wrong, he points out several scenes of the movie CLOSELY resemble a climactic showdown in a Marvel comic that predates those episodes of Superman by some time.

That's from Thor #350ish from the 80s.

Hey, that's pretty cool. Didn't know about it.

Serial: FreetardoRivera: DC cleans the clock with marvel in the animated series department.

See I don't buy this. I don't buy the idea that there is anything inherently wrong with DC properties that keep them from coming to film. I don't think Thor is any less outlandish than Green Lantern for example.

Green Lantern didn't succeed for a variety of reasons, but I don't think the source material or concept was one of them. GL was pretty much farked over by executive meddling. Thats the real difference.

I don't think Nolan's batman films are good because Batman is a 'realistic' hero, I think they are good because Nolan has a single creative vision for the property and brought it to life. Marvel has done the same thing with each of their properties, with an added layer of the fantastic that I just can't get enough of, and an added guy on the top who loves the properties and is making sure they can all gel at some point.

And that created a movie far bigger than the sum of its parts and I think its wonderful. I see DC's properties as being similarly doable, I just doubt the studio's ability to actually do it.

Well, when Marvel eventually farks over Kevin Feige, et al, we can be fairly certain he'll go over to DC, and work it out.
