What sucks about Aqua Man is that the story has to be written in a way as to give him something to do. Without water, he might as well stay home and let the other heroes handle it.

Abandon this film idea. Anyone outside Geekville will consider it an Avengers copycat.

If done right, it would be bigger than Avengers. Throw a bunch of money at Nolan and Bale and it can't fail. It'll never happen but it should.

Even many of us in Geekville will find the characters (other than Batman) unbelievably boring.

2012-06-07 09:03:44 PM
Shouldn't they wait until after a few of the other DC get their own movie?

2012-06-07 09:10:47 PM
Whatever, trollmitter. In any case, they've a looooong way to go before this becomes a viable reality.

Except with the exception of Batman and Superman, the JL is lame.

2012-06-07 09:21:34 PM
Yeah, Subby, the other thing that makes Justice League the polar opposite of Avengers?

Avengers was actually made.

I'd like to see them pull off "dark and mature" with Aquaman, the Flash and Wonder Woman.

Superman is beyond lame. Hey! Let's make a completely indestructible character whose only weakness is a specific material that is either incredibly rare or about as easy to obtain as chewing gum, depending on what the current batch of writers are in the mood for. Then, the only way we can build any sense of tension for the character at all is to have that material show up in every. freaking. story.

So when are the Justice Friends gonna get a movie? We need to see Major Glory, Val Hallen, the Infragable Krunk, et all in action.

You're asking DC to do something "right." You might as well ask Perez Hilton to have sex with a woman.

This; the die has been cast already. Unless the JL movie is balls-out awesome, every non-comic book moviegoer will say "Avengers copycat."

Fark you guys. I like Martian Manhunter.

Simple.

1) Aquaman's 90's phase was sorta-dark. So, now he's a quadriplegic, with hooks for hands, feet, teeth, and nipples.

2) Barry Allen's a closet pedo.

3) Wonder Woman has an eating disorder. And by that I mean, as a living statue, is that she eats rocks (and then sticks her fingers down her throat and barfs cement).

Yeah, Also the Voltron bit with Dexter's family having the multi robots that hook up to form a big robot. And the Godzilla bit with the giant monster they are fighting in Japan. Rather hilarious.

Without an actual comic geek to run the show as mandated by the parent company, in this case probably Warner Communications, this project is destined to be at best half-assed.

This is why: WB suits who aren't comic geeks and just want to use the eventual ticket sales to boost their careers won't take the source seriously and will want to put their own ideas in it so their projects would have their fingerprints on it. (Taking the source seriously doesn't mean making a dark and mature movie that adults would like - Avengers is an example of filmmakers taking the source seriously but making a fun movie out of it.) They could get the best writers, directors, editors and effects companies, but if the liaison between Warner and the project's director gets nervous, thinks of their career and gets cold feet, and forces the creative staff to dumb down the movie so it's more universal for ticket sales' sake, the project is doomed.

Martin Campbell reinvented Bond twice. For the 1990s and then for 2000s. Successfully. Then look what happened at Green Lantern. Almost beat-by-beat Superman the Movie even though the initial shooting script had a totally different story structure. Almost every effects scene was revealed in every trailer and featurette beforehand. I'd like to think some cowering WB suit had a hand in those acts.

Why were the Avengers movie and lead-up movies successful? There was a comic book geek in charge that took the source seriously and hired the most suited people for each movie. Without the equivalent of Kevin Feige in WB who answers only to the parent company's directors and not to other executives, the Justice League movie won't be half the movie Avengers is.

/not being a hater, just observing the situation.
//desperately want a JL movie to succeed

Sadly, I think you are right about this. DC should stick to animation, which they do a really good job at, IMHO.

I know...some artists just, essentially, copy and paste character templates. JRJR is bad about that with his female characters, they all are variations on a theme, the only REAL differences being bust. That said, I still like his work.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIT a second...was that some sort of racially insensative remark? Young man, I will not HAVE that on MY Fark.

Been a while since I've read anything DC, but I think it's even worse than that now. He slowly built up an immunity to kryptonite (kind of like Wesley did for iocane powder in The Princess Bride) so now his only weakness is magic.
