I wish Activision/Blizzard sues ABC News and/or that Norway prosecutor.

Also, lightweight -- the Paragon/Ensidia/Method guys play 12 hours a day during progression.

Doesn't Ensidia get paid for their efforts, though?

And if the title means 'seven hours a day,' then yeah, that's a bit excessive. And this is coming from a former WoW raider.

Breivik Anyone with a functioning brain angrily dismissed the idea that playing World of Warcraft had any connection to his attacks

Now, if he were accused of setting up a tent at Sotheby's, on the other hand...

Some get sponsorships, but is not enough to make a living. At least that is what the maintank for method said.

And ensidia actually disbanded shortly after getting banned for cheating during dragon soul. They were never the same after kugen left, which is goood cuz i hate him -- bastard always kept spouting how the only class that should tank end game content should be warriors.

My team is dying, so when we were 4/8, we decided "Fark it, no more resets". We're 7/8 now, and with the 25% that just went through, hopefully we'll clear Madness on sunday.

/And hopefully he drops polearm+bow, because I'm about the only farking person who isn't quitting immediately after that
//Unfortunately that list of people quitting includes four officers and the guild leader
///I have no idea how my guild will look in two months, let alone when MOP is released

we're more casual than anything else tbh. I don't think we'll make the push for 6/8 (the last feasible boss in our table seems to be hagara).

Anyways... I feel your pain, we had two raid teams, one more relaxed than the other (I maintanked for both on two different lvl 85 pally tanks full of 390-ish gear) -- or i used to until our guild got hit by Diablotus... (and burnout in general)
epicdiapers.files.wordpress.com

We just had the luck that the raid team we formed out of the two fractured raid teams is so much better than the original teams. (and several of us were doing double duty for both teams)

You know if Brievek had carried out his massacre by repeatedly clicking his mouse and running though the number or function keys on his keyboard, I could totally see the connection. As it was, inasmuch as his massacre required running around, carrying heavy loads, and being out in direct sunlight, I'd say his WOW time was actually a disadvantage

2012-06-07 12:11:52 PM
It really depends. If he was playing some pussy Alliance hunter carebear with nothing but PvE dropped gear and a ghost panther that he got from hours upon hours of cracking open those goddamn cat figurines north of Whatchamacallit, that harbor city named after an eggplant, then yes, he probably had enough anger built up to kill an entire city of worthless human scum.

However, if he was a member of a Horde guild that did nothing but run high-level instances and wander around smacking down lowbies wearing hand-me-down twink gear, then he probably had enough righteous hauteur and ego to not go after critter-level kills.

Or something like that. I really don't know.

I was tempted to make a WoW joke over the tragic deaths of dozens of young people, but decided not to finish the thought. I'm still probably going to burn in hell for it, though.

Playing WoW for seven hours a day for months on end doesn't make you violent. It makes you an incredible loser.

Ok but see, he's not on trial for being a loser. He's on trial for murdering people. I'll leave it to the sociologists out there to ponder whether or not being a loser is linked to murder.

To me it would seem like a lot, as I've never played WoW. My only exposure to it was the commercials.

I'd suspect it wasn't. Seeing as how I've not heard during this that he had to sit and rest on order to catch his breath or use a puffer at any point during his rampage

The only people that play that much are progression raiders or pvp junkies. I barely log 4 hrs a week these days.

I'm actually in favor of gun ownership, but shouldn't you blame the access to guns first when it comes to a shooting? Next shouldn't you blame not letting his mental state getting checked and giving him access to a gun? Then shouldn't you blame a host of other things as well? Woah and Modern Warfare, isn't that actually a shooting game?

WoW doesn't even let you target children in game.

You should blame WoW if links the loot he got and tries to go back next week to see if the camp has respawned.

If he really is thinking like WoW, then he has horrible faction in all of our cities, he's flagged and PvP active. Let's just kill him and camp the graveyard.

My first roommate in college was insanely obsessed with WoW the summer before we went to school. Which was funny because I knew him in high school but we randomly got assigned as roommates in the dorm. He was outgoing, fun, and would always want to hang out, but he fell off the face of the earth during that summer.

He told me he was playing 12 hours a day. He would wake up, eat breakfast, play until lunch, eat lunch, play until dinner, eat dinner, play until 2AM, then go to sleep. He kept it going for 2 weeks into the school year, until he decided one day to change the password to his account (had me change it), and uninstall it completely.

Then again he had a tendency to get obsessed with certain activities and take it to the extreme. Went through an MMA phase at one point, put a couple holes in the walls of the dorm during that.

years ago i got a free copy of asheron's call 2. some university was doing a study on computer game violence and i got picked for the program. i had to answer a long questionaire before getting the game and another one after playing for a month. one of the michigan schools did the study iirc.

Averaging 7 hours a day over a long period is on the higher end, but not insane levels.

When I was single and doing heavy theorycraft work I used to do about 4 hours on work days and 8-16 on non-work days depending on if I was on night or days shift. So I probably averaged out to that scale. But I was doing a lot of research and addon stuff, not just playing.

I like that their stock image is a Mage who destroyed his damage meter though. That makes me happy.

On the second questionnaire, I would have drawn a bunch of pentagrams and upside down crosses and answered every question with a death threat.

Someone didn't read Breivek's writings...

2012-06-07 03:57:33 PM
When asked about his interest in the game by a prosecutor, Breivik angrily dismissed the idea that playing World of Warcraft had any connection to his attacks, according to media reports.

The man who killed 77 people thinks you are making an irrational argument. Ponder this for a moment.

"He does not seem to be very successful at distinguishing between the virtual reality of 'World of Warcraft' and other video games and reality," Eriksen said.

I would like to know what leads him to such a conclusion. Nothing I have heard tells me he did not know he was ending the lives of a significant number of people, and everything I have heard tells me he specifically chose to do this for some xenophobic reasons disconnected from video games.

What does this even mean. You hear psychiatrists and what not say this about people but they never explain it further.
In my mind they have a stack of flash cards. Some cards have pictures of real people and some cards have video game characters printed on them.
If the tester scores anything less than perfect they risk receiving the a fore mentioned label.
