Pakistan is shaking in their boots. As soon as we cut off the money they'll become allied with China. And then what few secrets they haven't already given the Chinese from the weapons we have sold to Pakistan will also end up going. Followed by the end of the fake support for US Afghan policy, and then full scale Pakistani help for the Taliban can become the official policy.

China may align, economically, with Pakistan, but I think they're smarter than to align themselves militarily with them, especially if Pakistan gives official recognition to the Taliban.

China isn't even really getting North Korea's back anymore, and they essentially made that country.

"We have made that very, very clear time and time again, and we will continue to do that."

Big wooo.

We are already flying drone sorties into Pakistan and attacking the militants. I believe I remember that we have pursued them across the border and killed them several times. And we told Pakistan to STFU, when they complained about it.

So I guess we have no choice but to send them a strongly worded letter.

Well, given the nature of terrorism and the US' resolve after September 11, Pakistan was left in the position of join up with us or find yourselves our enemy in a shooting war. Pakistan, reluctantly, chose the former. But, since governments and bureaucracies are not monoliths, the cracks in their interests are showing through. I'm sure that there are a lot of people who do not want the Taliban in their western region, and there are probably others who do want them there. There are undoubtedly nationalist feelings that are upset over violations of sovereignty, even in the group that doesn't want the Taliban there, but they don't want us there either. They don't have a solution but don't like ours. It doesn't help when our country's racist assholes make the news for doing something friggin' stupid like insulting people for their clothing or doing things to religious materials intentionally to rile them up.

So, basically they've learned that when they support the militants and AQ, that you're just going to talk to them.

And you wonder why they're not getting the message...?

/take some of their aid away and give it to India, then let them know why you did that

Unlikely, China is trying to make itself look good to western countries, they may provide covert support but they will never overtly support Pakistan if it goes rogue.

Man, I miss the days when my mom would give me billions of dollars. All I had to do was say "I did my chores, mommy." When she pointed out the fact that the yard wasn't mowed or the terrirst were once again occupying the wading pool, I just shrugged and said that I didn't know anything about it.

The drone strikes were tough love.

Chances are, this speech wasn't even intended for Pakistan. It's just for local consumption, to make people think anything's likely to change in the current mess.

Same way the Pakistani government loudly demands us to stop bombing the militants that are more of a threat to them than to us, while quietly passing us information on where they're at. The Pakistani masses chanting 'death to America' stay distracted by being angry at us instead of them, the militants keep getting bombed, and the circle of life stupid keeps going.

I've been to a Jewish funeral once for someone whose family was toward the orthodox/conservative side. The family provided kippahs for all of the males, or tried to. They underestimated how beloved the deceased was. Fortunately being in the desert, a lot of us had hats with us anyway. The kippah is the minimal way to cover one's head, in respect for the religion of the people one is visiting.

I don't ever remember actually hearing "3". I knew "3" followed "2", but if the counting had begun, it was already too late. "3" was when everything got dark.

I doubt the US has given all the top secret things to Pakistan. China probably knows more about US developments via it's domestic spy network of goons in the USA.

And besides, the Taliban will likely be as much of a PITA to China as it did for US & EU. They'll HAVE To crack down on them Tibet-style or be associated worldwide as a sponsor of terror. That tends to effect the "big picture" of global trade and etc.

If Pakistan turns to China, the terrorists will WISH all they had to deal with was the USA.

FTFA: "Anybody who attacks U.S. soldiers is our enemy. We are not going to take it," [Panetta] said.

Oh look. It's the George Zimmerman defence on a national scale. The US in the role of neighbourhood watch volunteer does what the hell it likes and then uses deadly force on anyone who fights back.

Do you guys have any idea how this makes you look to the rest of the world? Do you care? Or do you just assume that you can suppress everyone you want for as long as you want without consequences? Because there is a bloody big building plot in Manhattan which should have taught you otherwise, ten and a half years ago.

Exactly. Liberals don't understand that Afghanistan has the second most powerful navy in the world. I work as a security guard at costco, so i have access to a lot of top secret information that normal people never get to see, and I've seen the intelligence reports on the Afghan status of forces. Their Muslim marines are the best trained, most disciplined fighting force since the Spartans. If they ever make landfall in the United States, we may not survive.

And believe me, they plan on landing in the United States. I also work at a Kinkos copy shop in DC, so I've seen the intelligence we extracted at gitmo. Those bastards plan to sail a carrier task force under the Golden Gate bridge three months after we leave Pakistan.
