I used to hate the cure, but I've realized I really like most of their songs... when done by other bands...

...most of the girls I wanted to nail in high school were heavily in to them. So I ended up hearing a lot of Cure and going to more Cure concerts than I would have otherwise.

Yet despite this association with messy teenage sex, I still can't stand their music.

THIS. Most boring concert I've ever seen. Saw them in the late 80's at The Frank Erwin Center in Austin. I was sitting in front of Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers. Now that's a show.

70 & 73 are really a very irritating place to drive.

The myster if you'll be able to turn left from the left lane or not... the traffic.. the lights.

I once had to make a run at work from a place on 70 to one on 73 and back. 9 miles one way. It took over 2 hours.

New Order was nearely as boring as The Cure. Even Bruce Hornsby put on a more exciting concert than those two.

As a huge Cure fan I think I have to agree with you on this. The few times that I have seen them it was not much different than listening to a live album. "Here's all the songs you want to hear for the next 3 hours."

Saw them with the Pixies and Love and Rockets at Dodger stadium some time in the late 80s. Two hits of L and a few hours later and I was a fan of all three for good. KROQ replayed the Cure's setlist (studio versions, not live) for the drive home. I can't say the Cure's set was exciting, in the way an early Specials show would be with high-energy and all, but it was enjoyable. All in all a good night!

Robert Smith stood in for a banshee gone awol back in 80ish, he played lead on the lords prayer for 20 minutes, thus began a long association with them both. Great band, not so much live.

robert smith, still the reigning king of the one string guitar solo!

i have never seen the cure live in person. a few years ago i was going thru an extra big cure period and someone gave me a dvd of a cure concert. i never made it all the way thru that dvd, at least not watching it. i'd turn it on for background music while doing other things. nothing at all exciting happening on that stage!

Nice find, subby. The Cure rocks.

I disagree. Maybe you've only seen recent shows, but I've been to a LOT of Cure shows, and they frequently play B-sides and obscure tunes, as well as covers. The frustrating thing is when all the people who only know them from "Disintegration" get all upset when they play the older stuff, but then drunkenly "wooo!" and sing along to the five lines they know of "Lovesong" or "Pictures of You".

I've been to shows where they spent half an hour playing "Carnage Visors" despite the fact that large swaths of the audience were getting all pissy about it and screaming for the last Cure song they heard on American Top 40. F♥ck those posers; I loved it. I've been front row or near to it at several shows. I wouldn't be surprised if the guys recognized me and my ex-wife by now.

/I've met Lol, Roger, Boris and Porl. I missed out meeting Robert twice.

I can see how non-fans and even some fans could get bored with some of their 3 hour-plus shows, but I'll take them every time. They throw in obscure songs and b-sides on a regular basis and while it may not be the most thrilling of live shows in terms of on-stage antics, they are some very talented musicians.

And I've said this many times, but bassist Simon Gallup is one of the more criminally underrated guys out there.

I've always been a huge fan of The Cure and I have been to several concerts. True, they are definitely not exciting to watch but I went there to listen to them play and I was never disappointed.

/Thanks for the link, subby!

absolutely. He's got a terrific sense of melody. and the cure always has an incredible rhythm section. robert smith knows how to pick drummers and with simon at his side, he's got an incredible engine beneath him.

I listen to cure playlists quite a bit at work, not because of nostalgia but their music is still bloody good. Although casual fans may say their music is depressing, i find it uplifting, i know hanging gardens, from the edge of the deep green sea, etc, songs of life and death.

everything post-Bloodflowers has been a colossal disappointment. Also, RS did a duet with Korn ...

/disintegration is the greatest album of all time

I almost gave subby shiat for calling the link "Slicing up Eyeballs" as that's a Pixies reference and not The Cure.

Then I RTFA and saw the name of the site. Almost an automatic fail for me.

It's a pretty good site and worth checking out from time to time. They love coming up with 80s New Wave/Punk/whatever obscurities like this.
