LA takes it tonight.

The Devils will was broken last game. Jonathan Quick has simply destroyed their will to live. Two goals scored in three games. Unreal.

Love to see NJ mount a comeback, but I don't think they have it in them at this point...

Ah well, hopefully, I'll get to see the Cup in person again when Quick brings it to UMass Amherst.

There's no way the Kings don't take it tonight. That game was brutal. I was at the game with my girlfriend (who likes the Kings but LOVES the Devils); she was very sad. The Devils were sloppy all around. They wasted a ton of breakaway opportunities with bad passing, managed to squander a full minute of a 5-on-3 Power Play (I think the stats on Devils PP percentage is like 25% and Kings PK percentage is like 95%, so I guess I wasn't surprised). Kings are playing lights-out. I hope our fans here are too apathetic to Vancouver the downtown area.

I think so & hope so too. Let them win it at home, I'm sure that the New Jersey fans would be somewhat polite & stick around for the Cup presentation (if for no other reason than to boo Bettman*). However a Cup win in front of the home crowd, that's a celebration to remember (at least for the team).

As a Ducks fan it has been weird to cheer for LA, but they certainly do deserve the win this year. Just absolute domination all through the playoffs. A well earned Cup after their run.

Of course, with the end of the season comes the flood of retirement announcements in the coming weeks. I think that Marty's done after this, a down note to go out on but at least they made it to the SCF. Lidstrom's already announced. I think that Selanne will be back, he just looked to be having so much fun during the Ducks unexpected playoff berth chase (& his scoring totals should prove even to him that he can still play at an elite level). Jagr, probably be back (can you imagine his career NHL numbers if he hadn't jumped to Russia....wow)

*That's always fun to see, listening to the boos while watching the team captain try to rip it out of his hands to get the party started meanwhile Gary's hanging off of the bottom trying to stay in the spotlight one more second.

Marty did say just before the Final started that he intends on playing next season. And Marty is still damn good. He's not the reason the Devils are down 3-0.

I hadn't heard about him coming back, that's good. No he certainly isn't the reason that the Devils are down 3-0, he's still a very effective goalie. I guess I just read in a couple of places that he was thinking of hanging them up & extrapolated that going out as #2 in the league isn't a horrible way to go.

I thought the same thing before Game 4 of the WCF and Phoenix still managed to push it to 5.

It's hockey. It's weird. I'm not expecting a different result because Quick is just too good right now, but when you have a chance to clinch and don't, it gets a little bit harder the next game.

As a Kings fan for almost 40 years, I always knew good things would happen to this franchise after picking up Marcel Dionne.

Eventually.

It's a stunning, inexplicable run. An 8 seed blasting through a 1, 2 and 3, then one of the greatest goalies of all-time in the Finals, two OT wins, the road winning streak... haven't seen anything this improbable in hockey since the '80 U.S. Olympic team. Amazing.

Just saw this tweet from ESPN:

Entering tonight's game, the Kings have trailed 136 out of 1,064 minutes this postseason. That's just 13 percent of the time.

I don't think the proper adjective exists to describe how sick that is.

Even fans of teams they made mincemeat out of (like me) can't help but to wonder at this team.

90% of the people who celebrate the Kings victory will be bandwagon types who won't care about the team 6 months from now. Those people can go fark themselves with a goalie stick.

You and the rest of the other 10% who've supported them for years are the ones that everyone will be truly happy for. It's nice when one's long time support and faith in a team gets rewarded. Enjoy it.

I'll never forget my first Kings game, so damm fun. When I was about 20 or so we would go the races a lot, anyways you could park at the Forum and walk across to Hollywood Park for free instead of paying since the lot was unattended, so we usually did. One day I won a boatload of cash at the track and as we walked back to our car across the street a guy offers me tickets to the Kings, I look at my buddy and said hell yeah lets have more fun!

Get to our seats and the guys around us are loaded and stand up and yell "fark em up Marty" every time McSorley takes the ice, since that's my name too I was loving it, a few of those guys got attention from a usher type guy and calmed down a bit after but it was funny as hell, loved the sport ever since.

CSB mode off

Anyways on to my point, With Jonathan Quick you've got to elevate the cup!

Would like to see the Kings win tonight to skate the cup around their home ice. Haven't had that happen since 2007 when the Ducks won it (dammit Pronger!)

Me: "The Rags and Devils are really just playing to see who gets to be crushed by the Kings."

My stepmother: "Really? I don't think they can hang with the Eastern Conference. I saw one game of theirs in person, and they didn't look fast at all. I don't think they're that good."

It was not long ago I was in anguish as the Kings beat the crap out of the Canuks, and I shook my tiny fist at the Gods in outrage at the injustice of it all.

Now I see their wisdom, and am glad.

I'm one of those 90%, but I'm a Canuks fan. The King's run is awesome because it helps add clarity to my confusing life. Other than that, I will not care about them two weeks from now.

Brooms, hit the ice ? No.
This is la, and janitors cannot afford a 500 nosebleed seat, let alone a multithousand dollar rinksided one .

Quick will stand on his head as usual though, and finally, FINALLY, my Kings get a ring on Lord Stanleys'Cup.

One year ago today I was gripped with fear. Drink in hand I prepared for game three of the Bruins/canucks series. After two bad losses and lots of shenanigans, I was ready for the worst. Then Roberto imploded and a little light shined onto my grotesque beard.

Good luck devils. You'll need it. I think Quick is just too much in the zone.

This is also how I feel. The Kings have also been so damn good that it would be justice to see them get the sweep and win the cup at home. I'm sure NJ won't roll over for the Kings, but they have to be pretty disheartened right now.

Big difference though. Bruins lost two games on the road, where the Devils lost twice at home and then again on the road. They may squeak out a win to extend the series (like Vancouver and Phoenix did) but the cup already has the Kings names on it at this point.

Well deserved too. They started getting it together in April and never looked back. Fairy Tale shiat. Dusty in here? Reminds of the time the Stars got it in 1999. Town was electric for weeks. I hope the Kings do the mug proper and throw it into a pool full of strippers like Mikey Mo and Hully did.

PowerSlacker: @sportsguy33 is getting murdered on Twitter now for thinking that the Cup in a warm weather state is a shocking development.

his podcast with Cousin Sal from yesterday, he told a story of a March trip to Vegas when the Kings' playoff hopes were at best, a coin flip, where he put $20 on the Kings to win the Cup at something like 15:1 18:1 or 23:1 odds, whatever it was, just as gag gift for his daughter.

Welp, come June 6, that wager would pay him like $375.

naturally, SHE LOST THE TICKET.

HAHAAHAHa suck it, boston boy.

I don't really agree with that. True there will be a lot of bandwagoners. Hell, I'm riding LA's bandwagon because of how awesome they've been these playoffs. and that they're Philly West. But at the same time I'm not going to be all "GO GO LA" next season. They now will be in the "positive team" portion of my brain. In that should they hit the playoffs next year I could see myself rooting for them again.

But players change so often and you have no clue who is going where that just liking the players on a team makes it hard to keep liking the team. Case in point: MTL. Halak had me behind them. Then he was gone. So i went "well, I did like how they played, but man was I just a huge fan of watching Halak".

Also, if 90% of fans are bandwagoners... and of those maybe 10% become "true" fans, that's a great conversion.

How many of the rioters last year were "hardcore" Vancouver fans vs. just bandwagoners.
