Shut up, Meg.

Nobody's buying HP products these days anyway, so losing a large percent of their customers over the CEO's politics is moot in this case.

She's not the CEO, she's the gravedigger

The HP board has managed to pick two CEOs in the past 8 years that are highly politically active, and also seem to be business ignorant.

If the company goes down, you can't really blame the CEO's - its apparent that THAT's what the board wants. Invest with caution...

And... it's over.

They have gone through multiple CEOs in just a few years, now their BoD is seen as incompetent to pick good leadership. They attempted to step away from what they were known for, and took such a thrashing over it they had to walk it back, and now they only have very specific pockets of their business that is turning a profit. And now they're beginning to forcefully contract in size.

No one knows their business plan, they're shrinking quickly, they have a revolving door for executive leadership, and their company oversight is seen as incapable of fixing the issue. Why would anyone invest or work for this sinking ship?

Business plan:

1. Give away printer.
2. Require all 4 colors to print a black and white doc.
3. Sell toner and profit.

lordaction: ITT we have liberals complaining about freedom of speech.

We have shareholders complaining that a struggling company has a CEO that is publicly doing things which don't help her company's performance --or at least disregards it.

But then again YOU are complaining about liberals' freedom of speech.

Same here. What's the complaint about freedom of speech? Shoot, by looking at the comments here, I'd think you were completely full of shiat, high, drunk or all of the above. I wonder if I've accidentally gotten an ignore list...

HP has been poorly served by its Board of Directors for quite some time, now. However, since private industry can do no wrong, this is because of something socialist that B. Hussein Fartbongo did. Book it. Done.

That bit drives me nuts. My document doesn't even have and farking grey in it. Why are the letters all faded and illegible when my color cart goes?

Because People in power are Stupid: This woman is a fakring idiot.

I just.. wow...

Stockholder: "Why isn't HP's stock price better than Apple's?"
Meg: "Because I'm not as smart as Steve Jobs :( "

I consider the fact that her reply was not immediately followed up with, "That's ok, we'll give your job to someone who is. Goodbye." as an utter failure of capitalism.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you that what is being practiced here is about as far from capitalism as you can get.

Heh. That's obvious to even the most casual observer.

What's really going to be awesome is after the inevitable social upheaval there will no doubt be chucklefarks saying, "No one saw this coming!"

/and I'm using "awesome" in its original sense here

Not sure I want to meet the person who's too stupid to separate a well-known person's personal views from those of the company they work for. It's really not that tough.

Here's another assessment of this moron:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/ericjackson/2011/09/21/hps-board-of-direc t ors-is-pathetic/

The market likes Whitman a heck of a lot more than Apotheker and I don't blame them (although she gorged on perks and pay in her last 3 years at eBay (EBAY) when the stock died and made a bunch of dumb unrelated acquisitions for which she overpaid).

Someone who gorges on perks is not what a failing PC manufacturer needs. Perhaps they (HP's Board) are thinking that they need to liquidate everything at HP and someone with ties to eBay might be able to get a discount on fees.

Mugato: Shut up, Meg.

This. I was hoping it was this.

Seriously, if HP made Goofus and Gallant style training videos for their employees (you know, where one example is the model employee doing something the right way, and one is a lazy employee doing the same thing the wrong way), and replaced Goofus with Meg from Family Guy, they would totally get a lot of attention.

FWIW, If my HP 6-color printer (CMYK+lc+lm) is out of a color ink and I send it a color image, it asks if I want to cancel or print in Black only instead. Not sure what it does if I send a B&W/Gray document in the first place, as I have a more economical B&W laser for those jobs.

My HP OfficeJet has an option in the settings to print a document in black ink only. I'm not sure about the cheap crappy models, though.

Protip: The price you pay for a printer is generally inversely proportional to the cost per page in ink. On my model a $36 black cart is good for 2000 pages or so.

I have an HP colour laser printer, that I got ex display, never used, very cheap. The four toner cartridges are the small starter ones. After maybe a hundred prints a pop up window appeared telling me I needed to replace one. I clicked "ignore" and carried on. I think I've printed maybe three hundred since and its still printing great. Maybe it doesn't actually need toner....

And the "why can't I print a b+w letter when one of the colour inks is empty" reminds me of a HP printer/scanner I bought. That bastard won't even scan unless it has ink.

I have a Lexmark printer/scanner that does the same thing.
