Benign, mate. It's not a GBM or anything-- she has a meningioma. If I were a woman and had to choose a tumour to get, that would be the one. Meningiomas have been linked to hormones and are almost never invasive (and are generally as harmless as a mass creating elbow-room in the brain can be). The prognosis (at least for typical meningiomas excluding the rare anaplastic and atypical ones) after even remotely competent surgery is very good to excellent.

By the way, the pronunciation in the article is all kind of wrong. It's more like men-in-gee-OH-ma. The more you kn... meh.

Yeah, I'm confused too. I mean if it was Meredith Brooks who had the tumor I would totally get the joke, but Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrisette have like nothing in common except tits.

Could be-- given the prevalence among women (only about 25% of brain meningiomas and only about 14% of spinal meningiomas befall men), there is some solid speculation about a hormonal component to them, as with breast cancer, Again, though, it's speculation: the actual exacerbation-- or, ideally, inhibition-- by hormones on a tumour's growth is still largely unknown, even though the general connection seems pretty clear and there has been solid research into the binding of progesterone to tumour cells.

The biggest meningioma I ever encountered was roughly the size of a baseball and the woman had only just started showing troublesome symptoms. Again, if Crow could have chosen a brain tumour, this was probably the least bad type to get, although obviously location could make quite a big difference.
