WTF Indeed: Too bad it's a repeat.

Better to keep this one, the Verrazano headline is misleading, and has a whiff of "let's yell FIRE in this crowded theater!" to it, frankly...

2947.3 .. Hardly.

Intrepid was destroyed in 2268, or stardate 4385.3

Or did you mean Intrepid-Class... of which the first of the line was first launched in 2370?

/Confused, and utterly pedantic.

A great character, but (and this might throw you) ... I think the best character in the ST universe is...

Reginald Barclay.

I am so very serious about that too.

He is one of us. He fought and scratched his way to his dream.. .almost lost it for being socially awkward... spends too much time on the holofark, and almost lost his job for it, was gifted amazing knowledge, and lost most of it, and still managed to work himself into the admiralty.

Well, damaged foam never caused any trouble for the space shuttle program before... i'm sure this will be fine.

Data had a very logical and linear (pun intended) progression of evolutionary development as a character.
His flaws were manufactured (no pun this time). Barclay had a very ADD type of personality.

Ironically, (or.. appropriately?) the carbon-carbon leading edges of the Enterprise wings were removed to study the effects of a foam impact after Columbia disaster.

The current wing edges are replacements

"Captain's Log, stardate 2947.3. We have been through a severe ion storm. One crewman is dead. The ship's damage is considerable. I have ordered a nonscheduled layover on Starbase 11 for repairs. A full report of damages was made to the commanding officer of Starbase 11, Commodore Stone."

In Commodore Stone's office on the surface based facility of Starbase 11, Captain Kirk is reading over his sworn testimony as the commodore looks over a wall display, showing the repair status of several starships. Commodore Stone calls for maintenance section 18, which is working on the USS Intrepid, to reschedule and work on the Enterprise, which is priority one.

Captain Kirk says that Records Officer Benjamin Finney was in the ion pod during the ion storm. He went to red alert and warned him to get out of the pod. But he was too late, and they had to eject it, killing him.

The events leading up to the court martial of Captain Kirk took place in 2267.

Perhaps the date was also altered by those trying to show that Captain Kirk was not in possession of his mental faculties when he jettisoned the pod prematurely. (Later determined to NOT to have been the case, as the logs were indeed tampered with)

/In all seriousness though, there is a LOT of jumping around of stardate in that period. Events from 2267 have canonical stardates ranging from 2124.5 to 2947

Yes, I have no idea how stardates work, and it does seem like a very funky stardate. I wonder if it's a goof at Memory Alpha, because googling stardate 2947.3 really doesn't turn up much.

(Also Enterprise really wasn't enroute to Intrepid either in that episode, just that Intrepid was at that same starbase.)

Wow, Just found a 4010.6 on an event just after Galileo 7, and preceding Court Martial by almost 3 mos.

Someone needs to get the guys from Temporal Enforcement on this case.

They didn't really.

Rodenberry himself once said (around the time of the announcement of TNG) that they really should have paid more attention to the stardates and tried to be more accurate. Between the books, movies, TOS episodes, and the animated series, the stardates are a serious jumble, loosely progressive.

Barclay always bothered me because it seemed the society of the Star Trek universe should have been doing a much better job of identifying and treating people with such severe social anxiety. Obviously 24th century Earth isn't quite the social utopia it claims to be...
