Is it actually a repeat, or did we just kill the next #2 as soon as he was promoted?

I Imagine all the candidates for second in command of Al Q being herded at gunpoint into a room and made to draw straws or cut cards or something, or maybe it's like that scene at the beginning of the Hunger Games where everytime you screw up you names gets added to the lotto box increasing your odds

Makes the 18-month average employment time of a CIO seem downright lengthy.

If I were the #1 guy, I'd do two things. First, keep hiring. Having a lightning rod is just common sense.

Secondly, when applicants come in to be interviewed, I'd suddenly throw a football at them. Those that duck can continue.

Sort of sweep though from West to East.
A Blitzkrieg if you will.

WTF Indeed: In before someone says why killing terrorists is against the Constitution.

The only time I've heard anyone say that killing terrorists was Unconstitutional was the occasion when it was an American citizen.

Obama should have done this sooner. He waited too long.

I mean, Obama acted without adequate caution, he should have analyzed this more carefully before risking American drones.

When terrorists were caught and put in Gitmo under Bush we were told how evil and cruel Bush was, but at least their lives were spared. Now we just send out pilotless drones to do our killing (forget about capture and intelligence gathering I guess) and the same people who called Bush a terrorist say nothing.

They need to target them in reverse order, to build tension and excitement. "And this week, we've blasted #10. Who is #9 on our list? Tune in next week when we whack him with a missile!"

Libi, AKA "Lippy" was known to love the camera, and liked to evoke on long tirades about how he was never going to get caught or killed. "He just couldn't keep out of the spotlight" friends would say.
"I can't imagine why he made himself such an easy target, why an ITG could have killed this guy" another friend was quoted as saying. Followed quickly with " You don't' know me, I was never here" before he left.

There's a fascinating documentary called The Oath about a taxi driver in Yemen. He was Osama Bin Laden's personal bodyguard for years. He identified all of the 19 911 attackers.

Very strange story about him and his brother in law whom he brought into Al Qaeda. His BIL is Hamdan of the famous lawsuit. He appealed his conviction, the Supreme Court threw out his conviction, then Congress wrote a new law specifically designed to give the military something to convict him on. Which they did. He is out now. Very sad all around but you have to remember the subject of the documentary started killing infidels in Kosovo.

In case it's not super obvious and I'm that putz who's spelling out what everyone already knows, I'm pretty sure that any time we nail any important Al Qaeda person, we just say he's "the #2 guy". It doesn't really diminish much but it's much more effective communication than saying "We killed this guy who was part of the Al Qaeda core leadership and was important in numerous areas".

TheShavingofOccam123: then Congress wrote a new law specifically designed to give the military something to convict him on. Which they did.

Isn't that a violation of the 'ex post facto' provision of the constitution? Citation please?

Everyone dealing with Americans has a right to due process. No one the President has whacked has failed to receive it.

So this makes the third or fouth "#2 in Al-Qaeda". Is Ayman al-Zawahiri still "in charge" of Al-Qaeda? If so, Al-Qaeda needs to demote him a notch just so he knows what it feels like.

This is bad news for Barry Sotero Fartbongo. He had nothing to do with this job well done by the patriotic men and women of our super awesome heroic military, but we know he will brag and play politics as usual with it.
