In fairness, it was Michael who always looked suspiciously too much like Diana Ross. Still works for Janet's film.

Yeah, funny thing, DNA. You know who looks a lot alike? Those two guys from Nelson.

I always assumed they had the same plastic surgeon, but Janet knew when to quit.

You know, now that subby mentions it, you never see Janet and Michael in the same place anymore.

I got no problem with reconstructive surgery or for the otherwise disfigured but I wish the transgendered could accept themselves as they are(without modification) and be accepted by society. I am terribly ignorant on the subject but I sometimes feel like healthy gay men are being sold a bill of goods by predatory surgeons.

I hope I don't sound like a stupid bigot.
Not crazy about fake tits on anyone.
Including Nina.

I thought Michael was now LaToya full-time.

Thing of it is, it's not just gay folk who may feel they are in the wrong body. Sexual orientation is not necessarily a direct link to masculinity or femininity. Hell, if that were true, you wouldn't have the whole butch/femme thing in my little lezzie world.

It would kind of be super awesome if folks didn't feel like they needed to surgically modify, but for many, it truly is about seeing on the outside how they feel on the inside. It's akin to having a large growth removed, one that doesn't necessarily limit your life, but you would just rather be growth-less. The scale is different, obviously, but it really is all about feeling at peace in your own skin.

It's also an issue of safety. A friend of mine is having top surgery this Summer because he plans to travel to Nepal in a year, and frankly, tits on a dude could get him pretty farked up by some stupid violent idiots. So, he can go to the beach or whatever shirtless, not having to wear a binder and a tank top, not fearing that because his face and voice don't match his body, he could get the shiat beat out of him.

So yeah, we're not there, yet. That being said, I'm all for personal liberty as long as you're not harming others- what the hell do I care if someone wants to get a penis removed? Is it making you happier? Awesome. Have at it, babe.

What does DNA have to do with Michael's, Janet's or La Toya's facial structure?

Yes, and you do. Please try to have an open and inquisitive mind, so as to understand - or at least be in the vicinity of possibly understanding - the subject.

I feel like I'd rather be dead than a guy. I cry almost every day that I wasn't born female.

From how I felt growing up, I thought that I would turn out gay as an adult. However, a key component of being a gay man - namely, liking men - never happened. I'm still only attracted to women.

Yeah, you are... But a lot of people are.
If my interaction with the transgender community is any barometer, I think it's more common these days for male-to-female transsexuals to be lesbians. I know lots of transgirls who were male, attracted to females, but identified as lesbian and transitioned to become a lesbian.

Though a lot of lesbians aren't real receptive to recognizing male-bodied individuals as fellow lesbians (particularly pre-surgery when she still has a penis) which can make it tough for the translesbian to meet women. But there are bi females and pansexual women that don't have an issue with it.

I suppose gay-identified FTMs have similar issues within the gay community.

The whole thing is very confusing to me as I don't really understand how one grows up in a body without becoming accustomed to it. I don't think I usually think of myself as a man so much as I think of myself as "me." In any case, I purposely used the word "wish" and I wish you could become comfortable with yourself as any kind of man you would like to be but I hope you find some happiness regardless of how you get there.

I don't want to offend anyone and I certainly don't hate anyone with these issues nor do I think they should face any kind of discrimination.

Yes, it's completely outside the realm of your experience. Just consider the flip side, that it's similarly impossible for someone who is transsexual not to question their gender from an early age - usually to an obsessive degree - and not to ever feel remotely comfortable with their body. Not until successful transition, anyway. When "me" is decidedly and most profoundly not me, there is a real problem.

I don't want to offend anyone and I certainly don't hate anyone with these issues nor do I think they should face any kind of discrimination.

That's good, but the implication of your original statement was that transgender women were nothing more than gay men in denial and/or being "sold a bill of goods" by callous, rapacious surgeons. It further implies withholding the validity of the very existence of transgender individuals. Incidentally, the doctors that perform the surgeries (which are only a small part of the process) generally make less off that than procedures requiring comparable skill and time, especially compared to their peers not working in that specialty,

You're welcome. Not much patience has been involved; relieved that you actually are curious and not just troll-baiting, as some people who start off expressing similar thoughts in these threads turn out to be doing.

Do keep in mind that gender and sexuality are different and independent things. The comments of some others here have already demonstrated that.

So you're a lesbian trapped in a man's body? Join the club.

/If I had tits, and a vagoo, I'd never leave the house -- except to get free food, drinks, clothes, cars, and other stuff.

But I doubt that you actually feel trapped as male. I strongly dislike being male, to the point of having frequent suicidal thoughts.
