"They were talking how the little girls, it ruins their dreams," said the 15-year-old. "But it ruined my dreams because I just want to be Tinkerbell."

Well too farking bad, lil' snowflake, but rules like this are in place so that some creepy pedophile in an unlicensed Mickey mask can't lure unsuspecting kids onto his own homemade version of Mr Toad's Wild Ride. You were compensated with a free t-shirt and Fast Pass tickets, and since the Mouse never gives anything away for free you should consider yourself pretty lucky. You can play dress up for your boyfriend back at the hotel. He'll probably enjoy it more in private.

If she wanted to really go all out, she should have gone as Rainbow Brite.

If that's her boyfriend in the photo then she probably would have been better off dressing as Captain Jack Sparrow.

So, what is the cutoff for "kids vs. adults". I mean, many of the Disney characters are teens.... and that new "Brave" character looks to be around 12.

I guess it would be around 10 or so, but, it's probably whatever Disney staff feels is questionable.

She was impersonating an employee. May not have been intentional, but that's what happened. And like CrudBucket said, she was lucky to get anything

Methinks that the gate staff that allowed them into the first park will get a talking to. It's bad enough to turn someone back at the gate when they first arrive, but it doesn't make the news like giving the appearance of doing an about-face in the middle of their visit.

If Disney wanted to make it ok for her to dress as a Disney character, they should have killed one of her parents.

Not a whole lot. I went to Phoenix Comic Con weekend before last, which had about 40,000 people in attendance, with a whole of costumers. This won't even compare.

/yes, I know its not San Diego Comic Con

Actually, I wouldn't call that the "middle of their visit".

They actually got into Hollywood Studios, and apparently went all around there, before going to Animal Kingdom park, and getting stopped at the gate there before entry... two completely different parks.

Honestly, a little bit surprising that they'd be ok at Hollywood Studios, and not Animal Kingdom... you'd think it would be the other way around, since you'd expect a Tinkerbell character at HS, but, not really Animal Kingdom.

She is a girl. Didn't she know the only non-employees that can dress up are the gays? They are allowed to go in drag as Tink, or princesses without anyone saying a word. The boyfriend should have word the outfit.

Zombie DJ: If Disney wanted to make it ok for her to dress as a Disney character, they should have killed one of her parents.

My first thought on reading the headline was that going all Florida on her meant they stood their ground and shot her. Admittedly, that did make reading the article a little anticlimactic.

Sounds to me like she got a pretty decent deal. Like Crudbucket said, Disney never gives anything away for free, and a t-shirt there is a solid $20-$30 (assuming they gave her the cheapest ones they sell) compensation considering that she broke a rule that would have let them tell her she just wasn't allowed in until she changed. It's more than I would have expected out of Disney.

They may officially be separate parks, but that's like saying the Chrysler side and the Dodge side of a dealership is two different dealerships.

Both of these parks can sell admissions to the other park. Both of these parks have the same rules. They're connected by transit services. The only separation is physical.

2012-06-05 10:26:24 AM
I'm not one to side with the big evil corporation but I think Disney has a point here.

One of the features about their parks is that they have people in costume as the particular characters. It only makes sense that Disney controls that aspect and doesn't allow people to just show up as their favorite Disney character. Otherwise, people can just show up as a character and do things which do not represent the company's image.

They gave the family FastPass tickets, which is pretty useful to have. It's not like they were dicks about the situation. But it's one of the rules of their park..and they feel the need to enforce it.

She got a free shirt, for Disney that is serious, they don't give shiat away. Consider yourself lucky and don't biatch about it. Unless maybe you are dismembered they may give you a free animatronic arm.

2012-06-05 10:29:50 AM
Crudbucket hit it right on the head about the costume policy. Also, someone could put on a convincing costume, and go around the park telling little kids to eat a bag of dicks, and next thing you know, Disney's got a lawsuit on their hands.

By the way, why the hell is Tinkerbell such a hugely popular mascot? Go watch Peter Pan again, and tell me she's not an unbelievable coont.

According to Spielman, Disney officials explained that children might confuse her for the theme park's official Tinkerbell character
[..]
Disney park officials gave Spielman a free T-shirt to wear instead of her costume. The company also provided her family with FastPass tickets, which enabled them to skip the lines on rides they missed while the teenager was changing clothes..

If that were to qualify as "goes all Florida", then Fark could retire the Florida tag.

It sucks but they have that tule for a reason. They don't want guests thinking u work there and u giving bad info/being a jackass. I always said there needs to be a sw or lotr themed park, but the # of fans who would come in costume would be insane and it would be this story 500x a day.
