Maybe it is already (I don't believe so though), but, IMO, publicly lying about election rules and voting rights should be a jailable offense.

Well, he has more than 7 times as much money as Barrett because Walker isn't subject to campaign finance laws. So I expect you are right, especially when you factor in voter suppression too.

If Walker doesn't win he'll still be saved by a miracle 11th hour "find" of just enough votes to squeek through.

Seriously, anyone who thinks Walker's machine will let him fall is insane.

They at least need to take back the Senate. He might still be able to sell off Wisconsin's infrastructure to the Kochs, but at least he'd have to work for it.

2012-06-05 10:15:43 AM
Reached over e-mail, Walker spokesperson Ciara Matthews didn't question the existence of the calls, but accused Barrett's campaign of falsely blaming her candidate

Well, that is good, so, I assume if Walker wins he'll be aggressively trying to find out who made the calls and prosecute them for voter fraud?

Walker will retain, the Republicans will gloat, the talk radio crowd will crow, The unionistas will circle up and blame something else (outside money, voter interference) and David Axelrod will look even more like Gene Wilder in"Young Frankenstein".

Oh, as to the dirty trick of the day, if you are so uninformed about the process that you fall for this, maybe you shouldn't vote...

That is all well and good, but, the "confusion" is already out there... throwing the truth back into the mix doesn't help a whole lot after the fact... now it is just noise.

I don't wonder at all. They know that the easiest way to win is to stop the other side from voting. They don't have any problems acting on that and don't feel a bit bad about it.

Dude, that's nothing compared to other stuff that's been happening. How about the King Street Patriots coming to WI so they can "monitor" elections operations in the most liberal polling places in the state. The King Street Patriots is a group that believes that allowing the poor to vote is a violation of the constitution. In 2010 there were so many complaints regarding them committing voter intimidation that there was a federal investigation into their activities.

Or how about sending a text to tens of thousands of WI voters that read something like "Tom Barrett is a union thug that wants to give union thugs every one of their demands. Call to find out more. xxx-xxx-xxxx" The phone number was for the Barrett call center, so their phones got jammed up for hours with pissed off people wondering why they were receiving spam. So he essentially spammed people and tricked them into committing a coordinated DDOS attack on a call center. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that's a crime. I know that ignoring the do not call registry, which he did, is not allowed. I'll also mention that it's a false-flag operation as he misrepresented where the text was coming from.

Not that anyone in a position of actual authority ever says "This is too much, we're holding this election another time so you can quit dicking around with voters." What a shame, that tactics like this are gotten away with, if only because they can't move the election even if one side is blatantly cheating like that.

I'll second that this is what they think. My uncle told me that Walker will be proven right come today. I told him that winning or losing a battle is not what decides whether a side was on the right or wrong side of history. He told me that's what the losers say. I didn't want to hear any more of his nonsense so I just went ahead and Godwinned it and asked him if that meant that Poland was wrong and Germany was right.

I'm also pretty sure that Walker's people will try everything in the book to throw this election their way: lying to voters about changing polling times, voter threats/intimidation, slashing tires...even stuffing the ballot boxes. the only thing I think the WI Republicans won't do is intentionally murder opposition candidates. that's a line they haven't crossed yet. But pretty much everything else is on the table.

That's what we were discussing earlier today. He'll take this as an okay to go full-bore insane. Last year, when they lost two seats from the Senate, they took it as a mandate that everything they were doing was justified because they didn't lose three. I've never seen so much civil unrest, and these people are taking it as a positive sign.

If I did something that pissed off a bunch of my coworkers and almost lost my job, I'd probably take pause and think about how I should tone in back, not say "I didn't get fired, so I should push it even further."

the WI Republicans seem to lack a conscience tho, as well as basic human empathy. they want what they want when they want it, it's never their fault and consequences are for the other guys.
