No, dude was like the son of god, and was a tall white guy unlike everyone else in Judea at the time, and died somehow for my benefit, and then came back to life a few days later and then scuttled off somewhere, but he didn't go to Japan cuz' that's totally unbelievable.

I'm sorry, how is this any crazier than mainstream Christianity?

I see no harm in religion in itself. Let people have their stories and traditions, as long as it doesn't harm others.

zzrhardy: You know, Edo period Japan should be used as an worldwide example of how Christianity and State can get best co-exist.

During the Edo period, Christianity was marginalized and eventually banned, with the Portugese and missionaries being thrown out of the country...

Oh, I get what you are saying.

FTA: Village legend has it Jesus survived his crucifixion and secretly came to Japan and lived out his natural life and died in the village, which used to be called Herai, a word that apparently came from the word Hebrew.

So they don't believe in that whole resurrection thing? Cause I gotta say, without that, being Christian seems even sillier than usual.

Virulency: "To console the spirit of Jesus, the women danced a traditional Bon dance while singing "Nanyadoyara," which has been passed down from generation to generation in the village. However, even locals have no idea what it means. The festival has been held since 1964."

1964 seems pretty recent for generation to generation

The song/dance is presumably older than the festival, at least I hope so from the way they worded that.

I remember hearing about this a few years ago. There was even claim that there were some blue-eyed local Japanese to prove they were descended from Jesus.

Except Jesus was Middle Eastern and had brown eyes (maybe green).
