This is insufficient. He should have been slain before he had a chance to resign.

Too little, too late.

This will- rightly- sink this Congresswoman's campaign.

Ah, a chemistry joke. Nice.

I am torn between giving Subby a golf clap or a wedgie.

+1 subby.

I love how he says "some have interpreted the comment as advocating a violent act."

"Let's hurl some acid at people!" "Woah, what's with the threats?!" "I didn't mean 'hurl some acid' in a *violent* way. Sheesh."

I'm going to stay neutral on this one.

IF he'd said it in September, I'd agree.

I actually thought that was a pretty well worded apology. He listed the different ways what he said was wrong, the damage that he caused, and he expressed regret. Kind of refreshing from that side for a change.

Yes. "I shouldn't have posted something other people could misconstrue" has never been done before.

"It was stupid because my words were easily misconstrued; thoughtless because my choice of words obscured a point I was trying to make, and insensitive because some have interpreted the comment as advocating a violent act."

I've tried looking at this from a few different angles, and damned if I can construe "Let's hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won't abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector" into something that makes a point that's not committing a violent act. Unless "hurl some acid" is some quaint upstate New York phraseology like "steamed hams" that I'm unware of, I can't think of non-'this-guy's-a-dick' way to interpret it.

Yeah jackass. People misconstrue things and you need to chose your words wisely. Now what the hell do I do with all this blotter?

Said this in a different thread:

"What I said was wrong" = Good apology
"What I was was wrong because you misconstrued it" = Bad apology

I guess he didn't get the reaction he was looking for.

For a republican, sure. For a human being, not so much. Too much blame shifting to people who read the comments and were offended to be a real apology. But still much better than the "I'm sorry you were offended" non-apology.

Now when I suggested that the spokesman should be beaten with baseball bats and then hung until dead using his own entrails as a noose, then be beheaded and his head placed on a pike on the Mall in DC, some people unfortunately took that as a violent suggestion. I am sorry that some overly sensitive people misconstrued my totally innocent anology.

No, you goddamned vile piece of sh_t. Your words were not misconstrued. You said something so revolting that even the teabaggers were taken aback. You're "apology" amounts to nothing more than the typical "I'm sorry you got offended by my sickening words/deeds."

What a jackass. It was advocating a violent act, and one that has very specific connotations.

I'd point out there was no "acid in the face" statement.

That's kinda the thing. When someone says "you misunderstand me". You're proving them right when you mangle the statement they make to argue with them. That you keep referencing it as "acid in the face" statement supports that assertion.

His resignation was foreseeable and well justified considering the damage he did to the campaign with his word choice.

Oh yeah. I've been believing that for a long time now.

The real sad thing, is that non-apologies like these are the norm for the GOP it seems.

What kind of partisan shill would insinuate that you meant something violent with that? What an overly sensitive liberal hack. People just take quotes about how we need to stimulate the economy by purchasing rope and show our national pride by participating in the great sport of baseball, and they just twist them to mean something nefarious. Goddamn I hate liberals. We need to surveyor's castrate them with rusty spoons and deny them tetanus shots because inoculations are a liberal plot to make our daughters into raging whores that make babby Jaysus cry.
