I would love this - the perfect example of a very bad movie.

I kind of liked Howard the Duck. It wasn't a cinematic masterpiece, but it's a movie about a talking duck alien who smokes cigars. What the hell were people expecting?

Don't put it past Marvel.

All their characters who smoked cigars are no longer allowed t be shown smoking, because the middle-aged manchildren who read might pick up the filthy habit when they're trying to emulate a big orange rock guy or a talking duck.

/WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE MANCHILDREN?!?

I'm hoping that, after GL dies, someone at LucasFilm releases the original, unaltered trilogy on Blu Ray.

That's almost certain. It's an easy way to make a good deal of money for whoever wants to release it.

Why do people keep saying this? Seriously. He released the unfarked with versions of all of the original trilogy a couple years ago.

I would accept it if they remastered them (or whatever it's called where they 'clean' up the footage and audio). But yes, all I want is the unaltered versions on Blu Ray. No CGI creatures, no additional scenes, just 100% original.

/Has seen the unaltered trilogy recently as my brother owns them on DVD
//Didn't buy them myself as I was holding out for the Blu Ray version
/Forgot that GL is a dick and would release altered versions first

Because the quality of the unaltered versions of those looks like ass. It's 480i resolution, non-anamorphic. You'd do just as well to hook up a VCR.

I have nothing against people enjoying the altered versions or the prequels. Just let me have what I like, you know? Just makes you wonder if the reason George isn't doing it is because he doesn't want the unaltered films outselling the altered ones.

You really think your going to notice any difference between BVD and DVD on a 35 year old movie?

It is a sad world where we lost Jim Henson but kept George Lucas to hump the franchise so badly...

I decided to torture myself a while back by watching back-to-back viewings of "The Room" followed by "Howard the Duck". While The Room was awkward and nearly unwatchable and more than lived up to every bad review ever made of it, I had a marvelous time with HTD.

Star Trek did it right for the original series releases. Release the fancy remastered versions on Blu-Ray, with the option of watching the original versions in good quality.

A 35 years old movie is easily Blu Ray full HD quality, if properly mastered from an original print. Film is far higher resolution than BR.

Yes, Leah Thompson looked quite cute in Howard the Duck, but I also recommend Casual Sex? in which she gets her kit off completely -- along with Victoria Jackson in her pre-Jabba body.

Something closer to the comics?

I like Howard, he's a snarky smart-ass with no superpowers who uses his wits and guts to save the day. Plus his rogue's gallery has a lot of weirdos.

I had a major sad that he wasn't playable in Marvel vs Capcom 3. Howard would have been the best choice for a Marvel equivalent to Capcom's Viewtiful Joe.

Intro quote: "This is no place for an intelligent duck..."
Win quote: "No one laughs at a master of Quack-Fu!"
Victory dialogue: "You think you've got it rough? I'm trapped in a world I never made!"
Hyper Combo: Catches the opponent in a Beam-O'-War between the laser cart and the Dark Overlord of the Universe from the movie.

Yep. I tried to watch it last year, and that's about as far as I got.

It's not "so bad, it's good." It's just bad. Bad, bad, bad.

I don't care what people say: I love this movie. When I saw it as a kid (I was 11 or 12) I thought it was great. Lea Thomson was sexy and did funny things to my pants, Howard was funny in a way that I could appreciate at that age, and the climatic battle scene inside the lab with the transportation beam was awesome. Okay, sure, the comic is better, but I wouldn't have read the comic if I hadn't seen the movie, and reading the comic was my entryway into "alternative" comics like Flaming Carrot and Normalman.

So yeah, it's mostly nostalgia and the fact that I was a pre-teen with little taste, but it was great fun and I still have fond memories. So screw the haters.

Feel my pain. I worked as an usher in a movie theatre when it came out. I had to bounce back and forth between it and two other screens for a month. I saw 1/3 of the movie about 10 minutes at a time about 30 times. Usually I tried to stagger my rotations so I ended up seeing all of each of the three movies, but of course in this case I tried to arrange it so I was always there for her ass.
