His films are actually quite good. Though sometimes a little light on plot, he makes up for it with emotional character arcs and an insight into what truly drives humanity to its peaks. It's a travesty that mental illness seems to have gotten the better of him, though nothing has been proven yet, because I think he was just coming into his own. I hope that he continues to pursue his writing and acting while in prison, which should be easy considering the availability of rapists.

Although I am against the death penalty in almost all cases, I was going to say that he would likely receive the treatment that he deserves in prison--with a broom stick. There's a moral and social hierarchy in prisons and pedophiles are perhaps the only class of prisoner that would rank below this guy. Unfortunately he is probably a sado-masochist so he might enjoy himself. Solitary confinement will fix that. This is why I am against execution in most cases. Sometimes life is more cruel than death.

He was clearly an attention-whore and solitary confinement is perfect for him. I suspect HE was the one who started rumours of dating Karla Homolka and that he was also responsible for drawing attention to everything he did or allegedly did, such as kitten killing and posting "teasers" about the murder and post-mortem indignities to his room-mate BEFORE the crime was committed. Yes, yes, yes, an oubliette is a cruel, cruel fate for an attention-whore.

He was probably in Germany before his crime was ever found out. They said that he left Canada for Paris the same day he killed the guy and mailed the body parts, so he was probably in Germany a few hours later. He should have fled somewhere that Interpol doesn't have much reach.

The article on the french side of the CBC's website has a lot more details. He stayed 3-4 nights in Paris before hopping on a bus to Germany. The first person he stayed with turned himself in when he saw the pictures of the guy in the news, and a few barmen, after identifying him on CC cameras, picked up his beer bottles and gave them to police so they could get his fingerprints off them. He may alos be responsilbe for a couple of jewelry store thefts.

Looks like Mr. "It's easy to change your identiy and disappear" needs to work on the details of his cunning plan.

That's in America (prior to some new rules on prison rape which hopefully will help end the practice of sexual assaults on prisoners.) In Canada we don't generally find that violent crimes against prisoners by prison staff or other prisoners is tolerable or part of a sentence.

Oh I know that, actually an old friend of mine from high school has worked for years with corrections Canada. while not the Oz type place you see on TV I still wouldn't want to be anywhere near a maximum security type place. They'll probably put this sicko in the same place as Williams and Berdardo. Hopefully there is some sort of riot where those three have an 'unfortunate interaction' with the general population.
