Weird. That's not an area that usually gets tornadoes is it?

2012-06-04 08:47:17 AM
It's Obama's fault.

Actually, I wonder how long it'll take a Fundie religious person to say it was God's punishment for his liberal ways.

Not usually, but it happens. Western PA just had one Friday night and it's pretty rare here as well. The local lore (which may or may not be true) is that all the hills and valleys break them up.

This is a map of four years worth of tornado activity. There's actually a bit of a cluster in that area.

It's from all the swiftly rising hot air coming out of Washington.

Combination of terrain and the need for moist southerly air and dry northerly air to mix, which happens just to the east (relatively speaking) of the Rockies.

9 of them in DC?

Please have the first five form a V shaped main attack, with the remaining four in viking positions. Then, please head up and down K street, followed by a quick swipe at the Congressional office building.

Considering the vast quantities of hot air that have been spewing out of DC lately, it's not at all surprising

And that's probably more touchdowns than the Skins will see all season!

Didn't a tornado destroy DC 100 years ago when the Brits were occupying it? I seem to recall hearing somewhere that was one of the reasons they didn't stay very long.

Seriously though, I'm going to be in the DC area about 2 1/2 weeks from now. I wonder if there'll be anything left to see??

2012-06-04 12:55:22 PM
It's not that unusual

Usually we have a handful of touchdowns in any storm that can produce them, the difference from the MidWest being we get a lot with 40-60MPH winds that are maybe a couple 100 feet in circumfrence as opposed to mile wide F5s.

So lots of downed trees/power lines and a couple buildings get farked up. Not losing a whole city/town

2012-06-04 12:56:04 PM
anywhere there are trailerparks there will be tornados, FACT.

You're thinking of the War of 1812. The British burned down half the city AND attacked us with a tornado. Stupid jerks.

When hot air rising from Congress meets cooler air from the ocean, such weather anomalies are to be expected.

AbbeySomeone: Weird. That's not an area that usually gets tornadoes is it?

They get a few every year. Not with the same frequency or severity as, say, the Midwest, but they're a lot more common than earthquakes.

2012-06-04 01:00:34 PM
Little known fact....The Bilderberg 2012 conference was at the Westfields Marriott hotel in Chantilly, Virginia, practically
at the center of all this tornadic activity on Friday, but that particular area was left completely untouched.
Hmmmmmmmmmm

Thar was a hell of a comute wasn't it? Got out of DC around 4 and home to Leesburg around 5 and passed through at least 4 of the active t-bands

Tornado kills two, damages University of Maryland

" The most tragic event of the storm took place when a car containing two women was lifted off the ground and hurled over an eight-story dorm building (HOLY CRAP!). The car fell into the woods across University Boulevard, killing both women. The women were sisters and students of the University of Maryland.

I was less than a mile away when that happened and was on the other side of Route 1 at my gf's house

It was all outside of Baltimore. I live just NW of DC and it flew by so fast, nothing touched down. The stupid weather alerts kept interrupting my tv show though.

2012-06-04 01:12:27 PM
Most of the tornados that hit the area are over the water for some reason so you never hear much of it. Over the weekend me and the roomate had the bathroom ready as our "emergency shelter" the EAS came on and said that 3 tornados were reported.
People here at work are worried looking outside wanting to go home. That will be good kinda like the earthquake traffic last year.

Wow if that's what he does when he hates something, he must be pretty pissed at Alabama
