That's the problem with bidding for contracts and choosing the cheapest person. Cheapest isn't always the best

This does not surprise me one bit. I worked on a government office building (being built directly across from the main county office) that was shut down by a building inspector for not having the proper permits, which was the governments responsibility (said so in contract). It delayed us 2 weeks which costed that same government a lot of money.

And that wasn't even in Florida

There were rats, Dad.

Rats?

Yeah, big ones.

Hours earlier, courthouse builder Turner Construction suspended its latest effort to make smoke-control systems work throughout the 800,000-square-foot building.

Always loved that little saw.

Contractor dicked up, and the people charged with deciding a contract dispute as to whether the county or the contractor is liable for the extra cost are the ones ticked off. Great work there.

For those of you who are fortunate enough to not live in Jax (I'm not one of those) this courthouse was estimated at a cost of $190 million dollars when it was begun in 2000. It is now 2012, cost $350 million, and this monstrosity is still unopened. There has been asbestos found in the ground due to the haphazard demolition of the previous buildings on the property. To top it off, Judge Moran and his cronies just had city council approve ANOTHER $750,000 for brand new furniture when 90% of the furniture from the existing courthouse was deemed fit to use in the new building.

I cannot wait to move.

Yeah, living in St Augustine I've just shook my head and laughed everytime anyone mentioned the new Jax Courthouse. A huge boondoggle. The people of Jaxsonville should be pissed and demand people be held accountable for such a major fark up. Too much corruption in the "good ole' boy network" for me to feel comfortable, and I know nothing will ever happen to anyone involved.
