Huggermugger: Known as "Dickie Dawson" in the UK 1950s. Married to the voluptuous Diana Dors, the Marilyn Monroe/Divine of her era. They thew swinging singles parties in their flat, and later Dawson was participating in orgies with the ultra-sleazy Bob Crane.

By all accounts, Richard Dawson and Bob Crane did not get along and didn't socialize outside of the show. Indeed, outside of working Dawson spent much of his time at home during the late 1960s raising his two sons (he got sole custody of them after he and Dors were divorced). John Carpenter was the one who went orgy-hopping with Crane.

There's some irony that the sole remaining survivor of the ENTIRE "Hogan's Heroes" cast is Robert "LeBeau" Clary, who was THIS close to being exterminated in the Holocaust (he still has his inmate identification number tattooed on his arm, which was why he was always filmed wearing a long-sleeves on the show, regardless of the weather).

I literally ran into Richard Dawson on the studio lot where he was shooting The Running Man. I was rounding the corner of the sound stage on my way to the copy center and came upon Dawson and a young fan posing for a picture. To my surprise (I had never met him before), Dawson gently reached out and put his arm around me and pulled me into the picture. He kissed my cheek as the kid's mom snapped the shutter. Dawson then turned to the boy--who was grinning--and said "I just thought I'd add some nice scenery to the picture." I was so stunned! Dawson released me and said "Thank you, love! Very nice of you." I only just laughed and continued on my way.

To this day I have wondered at my presence in some stranger's photo album. I can just see the kid, now grown, sitting with the book on his lap showing his kids: "...and here's me and Richard Dawson kissing some blonde who accidentally walked into the shot..."

"An" precedes "H", which has a vowel sound (aitch), so yes, an is correct.

More interesting is the unintentional juxtaposition of spelling Nazi with HH, typically shorthand not for Hogan's Heroes (though also Nazi-related) but rather Heil Hitler.

RIP Kissing Guy :( I've never understood how he perfectly blended a British accent with a genteel, Southern accent on Family Feud. And he was the only logical choice for the role of Killian in The Running Man.

Here's the best eulogy I have read for Dawson

From CM Punk's Twitter feed...

"Richard Dawson. A real man. Would kiss your wife while looking YOU in the eye. And you'd do NOTHING. Because he is Richard Dawson."

One of the best game show hosts :( He would give contestants a fighting chance and occasional freebies while the judges just listened to him and didn't argue. Always liked how he took command of the shows.

He was one of the few hosts that really got me into the game show genre.

/gonna watch the running man a few times today

Dickie, as his friends called him, was rumored to be a legendary stick man in the then underground days of adult movies. Some claim his legendary Louisville Slugger to be even more grandiose than that of Milton Berle. Rumor that Dickie used his secret weapon to gain fame & fortune are blatant lies. Dawson lived a life of high moral fortitude in spite of being featured in some 200 black & white choke/gag loops.

Richard Dawson deserved an Oscar nomination for Running Man. Seriously.

It was always winter at Stalag 13. Producers didn't want to have to worry about any continuity issues.
