It's been great fun this week tormenting my friends about Blackwater's ending. Right when the credits rolled, all my friends looked at me and started with the "Is he dead?" questions. All I would do is smile and shrug. I also tell them they haven't even started the best book yet. Seasons 3 & 4 is going to blow some minds.

I have feeling they're going to combine AFFK and ADWD. I don't think Martin is going to live long enough to finish the last 2 books. But since he told the producers how he wants it to end and if he dies, everyone would go into the final season fresh.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but tonight should feature the big song and dance number that dominated the second book.

Without giving too much away, for the big "Return of Ned Stark" finale, I hope Sean Bean can pull off a mean soft shoe.

Meh, it's been so heavily foreshadowed you would have to be blind to not expect it.

Its the Wolves on Unicycles that will surprise most viewers, I think.

i'm an asshole and think i cast some sort of air of superiority because i read the books, therefore i am more cultured and erudite than the rest of you, so here's what happens...

Throwing out the "Rains of Castamere" in the final credits last week was brilliant.

I've read the books; the show is far better. The book nerds who whine they change things miss the point; the TV show doesn't spend 1000 pages describing random characters' boiled leather apparel for 500 pages.

HBOZone's been running a season two marathon, showing it three times running in a lead up to tonight's episode. So much gloriousness!

Subby., we all know what happens, or should by now.

The second book came out damn near 15 years ago.

Pretty much...my mom won't stop trying to get me to read the books, just so she can discuss theories with me, but I gave up half way through the first book. watching it = more entertaining + more expedient

The only downside is I often find myself drunkenly browsing GoT pages and end up spoiling things for myself on accident. Whoops...

I say this about the Walking Dead too. You'll still get flak.

I like the changes to both. Makes for good TV.

I agree but lets face it. He has 2 more books to write and acts like he has all the time in the world. He'll either die or be too sick and HBO will finish it.

Not everyone has read or wants to read the books. Some just want to enjoy the show without having it ruined by snobby asshats who think that everyone else is supposed to share their tastes in literature.

Not that i'm saying you're a snobby asshat. I suppose I'm tired of the constant stream of "Obviously THIS happens and if you didn't know then it's your own damn fault because those books have been out foreverrrr" derp all over the internet.

Yeah that's a total bullshiat argument. These books are over 5000 pages total (so far) and even it they came out ages ago it's bullshiat to argue that people watching a TV show have invested the time to read a damn encyclopedia, and then whine when they complain you've spoiled something because *YOU* did.

The Game of Thrones book nerds are pretty stupid it seems overall. The HBO show is better anyway, and you're idiots for saying otherwise or posting spoilers because *YOU* read something 15 years ago.

2012-06-03 05:09:48 PM
Point is, Game of Thrones book nerds, is you are Joffery now, just acting cruelly and spoiling stuff because YOU are special!

wyltoknow: "Obviously THIS happens and if you didn't know then it's your own damn fault because those books have been out foreverrrr"

It's the END of the SECOND season.

If you like the story, you should have read the books by now. There are no spoilers.

Look:

Tyrion's dead. Joffery is defeated by Rob in Single Combat in front of the Iron Throne. The Wildlings conquer Winterfell and the Iron Born are sunk in a storm. In the end Litlefinger is the King of Westeros and he marries Varys to be his "queen"

You should know that much already. Geez.

When I was reading Book 3 (a really good book btw, can't wait to see some of that stuff on TV) some guy noticed I was reading it and was like OMG and proceeded to tell me the end of Book 5.

I was like, dude, do you see I'm reading book 3?

Let's face it, someone always can't wait to scream that Snape kills Dumbledore, no matter what.

Hundred? When was the last time a book series was made into a SUCCESSFUL show? There's thousands. And they don't want to talk about spoilers. They want to talk about the quirky things the HBO people do, like changing this detail or that detail or losing a character here and there, and the REAL cliffhangers with the REAL characters who we already know what they do up to damn near the 10th season of this show should they keep making episodes.

I mean each book ends with some serious cliffhangers for a handful of characters. Arya for example, was in a pinch the shortest because she's got at least a chapter in all books. But Dayners isn't even mentioned in one of the books. That's like 8 years in limbo with her pretty little ass in quite a pickle. (or vice versa. Whichever is scary)

That kind of stress eats at you. Especially with an author like GRRM who actually kills important characters like Eddard Stark without a second thought an with no warning.

We'd love to hash it out about Dance with Dragons in these threads because honestly how often do this many people take an interest in Game of Thrones at the same time, even in the geek community?

2012-06-03 05:24:03 PM
And just the other week I mentioned to a friend on Facebook that I was listening to the Hunger Games audiobooks on my bike ride to work, and she immediately responded "I can't believe she ended up with ______!!" and I was like, what part of "not finished" do you not understand?

people love to tell the end of stuff. It's what they do. When I was in 6th grade some kid burst into homeroom and shouted "Darth Vader dies!" the day after Return of the Jedi came out.

It's people. They are horrible and cannot keep secrets and feel special when they spill one because they are sad.

There are tons of places to do that online. Places that aren't Fark. Places that cater to people who have read the books.

GO THERE. Is it that hard?

I recommend the Onion's AV page, that has an entire column devoted to book readers discussing the TV show.

Plenty of people there.

Am I dropping spoilers about the character at the place who does the thing? No?

I was just mentioning that it's silly for subby to be like "What's gonna happen?" It would be like a Titanic thread where the headline is "Will the boat sink?" We all have the potential to know the answers and if anyone actually chimes in it's going to get messy.

Great show though. Wish they had spent less time with Cercei and the ladies in the tower and showed us some more Wildlings marching in the last episode, though. I know the show has a small budget, but those cammo leathers are cool looking.

Should be good, unless the whole episode is just the mindfark of Danaerys in the House of the Undying, shot cheaply because the show blew its load last week. I bet it'll be shot cheaply.

Keep in mind in S1, Ned Stark was killed in the 9th episode, which was the best ep of the season, then came a lame episode.

/Dye your eyebrows Emilia Clarke, because you look ridiculous with those Carson Daly brows and the blond hair.

They need to cover:

-House of the Undying
-Ramsay Bolton
-King's Landing fallout
-Robb traveling to the crag
-Jon's journey
-Arya after leaving Harrenall

That's a lot for an hour. They'll probably kick Dany's new friends to next season.

They've been cast for next season. I'm willing to bet tonight's episode will focus on everything kronicfeld said. It's a lot for an hour but HBO loves leaving seasons on cliffhangers and Jon's act will probably be the final scene.

/ I just knew they were going to end the last one with Tyrion. It's been driving my friends crazy.

I'm most confused on the "book snobs," people. I've read the books, true - I suck now? Also, he's not that great of an author, and he's on the producing team - the show won't be very good, regardless of outcome.

2012-06-03 08:08:33 PM

Confabulat: I've read the books; the show is far better.

I disagree, I like the books a lot more, mainly for the richness of the world that he created. It's one of the few things I've read where I feel fully immersed in the world while I read it.

That's not to say I don't absolutely LOVE the show, though.

Confabulat: The book nerds who whine they change things miss the point; the TV show doesn't spend 1000 pages describing random characters' boiled leather apparel for 500 pages.

I actually LIKE that they're changing things up a little. Like when they stole Dany's dragons. Didn't happen in the book but I suspect we're going to end up in about the same spot.

I'm also glad they're cutting Storm of Swords into two seasons. There's a LOT going on in that book. It would be exceedingly hard to cram even just the important things into ten episodes.

Yes, but when does Rand al'Thor race into battle riding Aslan with a flying monkey at his side?

We suck because we mention spoilers that haven't happened in the TV show yet.

Like the part in the fourth book where Arya's direwolf reemerges and eats Joffrey's face.
