Saw it last night. Total blah. Charlize Theron was awesome and everything else was just...hard to describe. It all felt like it was being planned in a writer's room while watching it, nothing was natural or organic.

It's actually performing far below studio expectations,in part due to sequel fatigue. At least that's what I've read.

It is. Just with better special effects.

Snow white is clearly not prettier in this.

She is such an awful actress. This was the first time I saw her act. Wow.

The movie was very meh, though the visuals were beautiful.

While that's true, it did knock The Avengers out of #1. Which is a bummer, as it sucked. lol

Look, Kristen Stewart is pretty good when she has actual good material to work with. Check her out in Adventureland or Into The Wild.

Personally, I thought it was funny that all the promotional trailers I saw for it on TV seemed to show as little as possible of Snow White herself but lots of the queen and lots of the huntsman. I saw her in Andventureland and am amazed she still gets work.

If you're not in a position to benefit financially, why would you possibly care which movie is #1 or how much money a movie makes?

2012-06-03 03:53:18 PM
My favorite review for this movie:

Right now I want three hours back.

No, Snow White and the Huntsman is not a full three hours long, but at 127 minutes it's definitely too long. I could have better spent the combined travel and viewing time taking a nice nap.

To summarize: this film is a beautiful, well-executed disappointment.

So did Stewart act like a warmed-over corpse or did she reach just-had-a-hit-off-a-six-foot-gravity-bong levels of animation this time?

Because in our god fearing, chrstian society we determine success by how much money you spend, how much you make and how much money you've got in the bank.

You'd think people would stop complaining a movie they went to is bad when it is below 50% on rotten tomatoes. At that point you should know it is bad going into it.

Because ti is interesting to see how the tastes and trends of movie goers changes over time. What movies attract what audiences and which performers are popular enough to get people to part with $20 just by being in a movie.

No kidding. Non-showbiz people talking box office numbers always reminds me of a bunch of landscapers on their lunch break debating professional athletic salary caps.

Well how much a money or does not make determines if the franchise lives on or dies. If Twilight bombed, we would not have gotten three more movies; much like how when narnia 2 did not perform as well and disney dropped it, though some born again guy financed the third one.

Along with that, if a movie makes bank, there are other ways that you experience it after the fact. If a Disney movie does very well, that will have the parks department study how to make an attraction from it.

wtf, are you joking? Nothing matters unless money is on the line? So you don't care about who wins a football game unless you bet on it? You've never cared, even in passing, which songs are on top of the charts?

Sorry to disturb you Mr. Spock but sometimes people like to have a feel of what's popular with our fellow humans.

not all of us read reviews, in fact I tend to avoid them unless Im really torn on seeing something. Reviewers fark up movies for you. either they spoil stuff or its a self fulfilling prophecy. go into a movie expecting to be a certain way from a reviewers opinion and you are likely to see what they were talking about.

I avoid anything I can about movies I already intend to see (this was not one of them, what I did see about it screamed stylized crap to me even before I found out Kristen Stewart was in it)

True, but I thought it did have a legitimately excellent trailer, so I thought there might be hope.

El Freak: If you're not in a position to benefit financially, why would you possibly care which movie is #1 or how much money a movie makes?

1) Because it determines te future course of movie making. If Prometheus bombs, it makes it much less likely we'll get a big budget, rate R sci fi movie again. If it succeeds, it makes it more likely.

2) This is like asking why people root for sports teams. Are we not supposed to care who wins unless we've bet on the game?

She was surprisingly good in Adventureland.. She was fantastic in the Runaways.

My theory is that she gets lazy when doing a big budget thing where effects are expected to carry it and I can sort of understand that - why do the work if you're just going to be overshadowed by CGI or when you have a built in audience for the thing who will see it regardless of how bad it is.

Kristen Stewart is good at playing a normal, modern person. But she's not stunning nor is she glamorous nor is she remotely the most beautiful person in the world, so trying to cram her into stuff where the fate of the world hinges on her desireability is just terrible casting.

Movies where she played an emotionless stoner teenager? Wow she has such great range.

Into the Wild was great despite her mediocre acting.

/I will admit she did alright on Angle from Montgomery. Not John Prine, Bonnie Riatt or Sudan Tedeschi good, but alright.

I dunno, the idea of making the movie about a character the original story spend hardly any words on is weird.

Imagine if they made a Jaws movie where the star and the focus is the boy who appears on two pages in the novel, takes a bet to go swimming, is almost killed by the shark, and never seen again. Or if they remade the movie and made the two fisherman who tried to hook the shark and got the dock destroyed the main characters.

She has a long career of standing still while the movie acts around her.

Wait - there's a hunstman in the original snow white? Seriously, I don't remember that at all. I assumed this movie made it up.
