Maybe One Million Moms and the American Family Association can complain about this destroying the sanctity of marriage.

Expect inane vehement protests from One Million Moms:

"Same-self is same-sex! Same-self is same-sex!"

/This reads like truly bad satire, though.

It's a bit wacky, but I don't see this as a problem. More people should focus on actually loving themselves rather than obsessing over their flaws or feeling like they need someone else to "complete" them.

Are they married in the Church of Narcissism? Or, is this the really expensive version of pronouncing lame self-help affirmations to yourself in the mirror?

FTFA: Whether it's the ultimate in narcissism or a form of accountability

Hmm, let's think about this for a minute:

On her 30th birthday in 2003, the Dutch woman had a self-wedding, complete with cameras.

[Chen Wei-yih] wore a white gown, carried a huge bouquet and broadcast it on Facebook.

My vote is on narcissism. I'd imagine the line of thought went something like this:
"I'm so wonderful... I just can't find a man that's good enough for me. I know! I'll marry myself! I'll get to dress up all pretty... and everyone will shower me with attention... I'll get to have my very own super special day! Wow, I'm so great!"

Best to sign a very restrictive prenup agreement with yourself before the commitment.

Hi, I'm from Hollywood, Vapid Romantic Comedy Division. Your views represent a threat to our industry (Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant are particularly upset by them). I'm going to have to ask you to come with me for "reeducation".

I'm not sure what to think about the guy who divorced himself. Especially with regards to the phone calls. Multiple personalities? Doing it just as a joke?(the line about sex becoming more infrequent sounds satirical) The women come off more as being in denial.

Or maybe it's for the presents.

/I recall Doonesbury touching on this- a character declaring her "singularity" with a public ceremony.
