#8. Unbalanced parentheses drive me crazy !

Despite being mildly ocd, I could live with or simply fix most of the others. Oddly, time left on the microwaves at work really doesn't bother me at all. Pressing reset before entering a warming time is just becomes part of how a mw is used.

But seriously, #8 ! what inhuman heathen leaves unbalanced parentheses ?!?

/my being an IT guy probably doesn't help...

OCD=! neat freak.

I am quite messy. Not everything has to be straight, ever. (In fact, I'm pretty farking messy and disorganised sometimes). Those pictures bugged me, but only the ones like the tiles and things, because I was like 'oh crap that would be so hard to sort out quickly.'

However, I frequently work myself into the idea that if I don't check my door is locked
1. after I've gone down the stairs
2. at least five times
3. until I've pulled on it so hard my hand hurts
something really, really bad is going to happen.

Stuff like this combined with excema means I've developed skin picking problems.

And my doctor was like 'yeah, you're experiencing some OCD-related anxiety. But it's nowhere near severe enough for me to refer you anywhere. Just try to calm down when you feel yourself slipping into it.'

/Much better now I've finished the university year though. Stress-related as fark.

Fuggin Bizzy: The only one that really annoyed me was the bristle block spaceship...because my kids have a set of bristle blocks and they're asymmetric by design, cannot center OMG, and .... yeah, I've been there.

They were called "Stickle Bricks", and by the age of 3, I had decided that I could no longer play with them due to this design flaw. I hated them because they couldn't be centred properly. I couldn't even touch them without getting the feeling that they were so wrong, that they shouldn't exist, that they defied all logic, that their designer should have his bottom spanked, because it was his design that forced me not to play with them.

I still can't touch them. Even looking at them IRL makes me ball my hands tight and sit on them. (it's taken me an hour to type this)

I also 'have' to clean other people's stainless steel kitchen equipment if I see any water marks, and 'have' to degrease kitchen sinks that have been emptied after 'doing-the-dishes', but left without cleaning the ring.

I have re-laced an entire shoe stand in a friend's hallway from horizontal to criss-cross-under-to-over, because i felt that horizontal lacing was "ugly, and inefficient". I was 9. I, consequently, wasn't allowed to be in hallways for more time that it took for me to take my shoes off.

I have the neatest, cleanest kitchen of everyone I know (and of anyone they've ever met, too)

My desk is a mess, though. It's the only thing in my life that I can't stand being tidy. My ex once 'sorted and organized' my desk. I couldn't find a thing for months.

usernameguy: OCD isn't being mildly annoyed because a tile is out of place. OCD is literally ripping the tiles out and re-doing them yourself because one of them is out of place. OCD is rubbing the skin off your hands because you wash them 500 times a day and never leaving your house because touching the doorknob will give you germs.

Just like being an anti-social jerk doesn't mean you have Asperger's, Being slightly annoyed at a pattern break does not mean you have OCD.

(But you knew that, and I'm being kind of a dick. I guess I have Asperger's)

This is one of those times where in real life I'd open my mouth to say something pointedly, point at you with my finger, and then... not have anything to say, so close my mouth.

Most of those annoy me, but fortunately I'm not so severely OCDish that I can't let most of that go. It helps that I don't have to endure any of those frequently.

Although, the bag of chips opened at the bottom doesn't really bother me at all.

Both my microwaves have had busted screens, so I was always in the habit of hitting the clear button before entering the time.

As a contractor, I can assure you that #'s 7, 17, and 19 (floor tile mistakes) happen on a regular basis.

Best part is listening to the moron tile sub trying to explain why I STILL have to pay him.

We had some floor vinyl laid at work, in a store room. It had a manufacturing defect where the printed pattern was faded in a very large patch, but the material itself was perfectly fine. it was a very low-priority defect to us, but the builder kept saying they'd re-lay the whole room. after six months of it not being re-laid, we just told them not to bother, as we'd already setup all the shelving within.

even 12 months later they were saying they'd re-lay the whole room.

yes, this is public money being spent.

Then she'll leave extra time on there, so the clock function doesn't display, because who would ever want to tell the time by something that's right at eye level, huh?

After many years ensuring my microwave was correct and consistent with my other clocks I stopped activating the clock after power failures. I don't need another clock.

I'd argue that your real problem is with whatever idiot decided a cooking appliance should also have a clock function. Go back in time and murder that asshole and we'll all be better off.

My SIL insists that all of the clocks at the family cabin be set to precisely the right time. She's also horrible with math. So we set the clocks at wildly different times, with a note attached to each one on how to calculate the correct time: +3:47 or -7:13, for instance.

Well, on those one-off tiles I'd just bring in a grout cutter, a chisel, and a tube of epoxy.

OCD is actually a medical condition. This article wasn't talking about the medical condition, because to a sufferer this would be literal torture. The article was talking about people who are mildly bothered by out-of-place things.

OCD is usually the result of a neurochemical imbalance. It's pretty severe, and can lead to a complete meltdown.

I have mild OCD offset by being extreme laziness. It drives me crazy that my ancient VCR always blinks 12:00, but I'd have to get down on my hands and knees, flip open the little door, remember how to reprogram it, etc. I solve my dilemma by leaving a pile of unread magazines in front of it.
