Welcome to Detroit.

sounds like one of the commenters nailed it pointing at the zoo director doing it because he didn't want to spend the money keeping it open. Who knows, really, but it would be business as usual for Detroit politics.

It wasn't open to the public most of the time. A group of volunteers were taking care of the fish and trying to raise money in hopes of reopening it full time.

My money is on some idiot looking at the tanks and thinking, "Wow, those things are all full of algae and shiat. They need cleaned bad. I know, some Clorox would work!"

Because if you wanted to kill the fish on the QT, there's better ways to do it that are way less obvious than a bottle of bleach.

I like fish sticks. But I'm not a gay fish.

Disturbing to think any person would gleefully poison an aquarium. But the longer I live, the more I like my dogs more than most humans. People suck far too often.

2012-06-03 02:59:36 AM
A) So who do they sleep with?

B) Catfish? Tilapia? That's not an aquarium, that's a restaurant.

What a bizarre line of reasoning "They say the deaths were part of a die-off, which happens naturally."
Yep, happens all the time. Walking down the street look up and see a flock of birds all simultaneously die. A boy scout troop on an outing and the next thing you know they all keel over. One second a school of fish are swimming along the next they are all belly up.
Anyone who would say something so stupid is dumb enough to poison the tank with bleach, leave the empty bottles there and think no one is smart enough to figure out what killed them.

Catfish and Tilapia, sounds like a fish fry.

Is it the Ghetto Fish museum?

It cant be that expensive to keep an aquarium in Detroit. A house goes for just $500 bucks there....

pjc51, that is really cool. I've driven by it many times while visiting the park but it has always been closed. If they get it open again I'll have to go in.

The news is now saying it was a tank die off and not bleach. The tanks all shared the same water system.

I didn't know the aquarium still had fish in it. When it closed years ago, i heard most the the fish were sent off to different aquariums around the midwest. Beautiful old building.

I suspect it's all part of someone's plan to induce vomiting in a sperm whale.

I remember visiting that aquarium when I was a kid. The damn electric eel never
did light up that light bulb they had set up. It was a very nice aquarium however
with lots of tanks.

The problems in Detroit have NOTHING to do with any liberal social experiment. Your complete lack of information is showing.

If the aquarium is short of money, they can put some advertisements on the fish:

So... attention whore, in Detroit. Why am I not surprised?

Fire his ass and change the locks, or else he'll raise the stakes and cause a REAL mass fish poisoning. Heck, he might have tried to cause one already, just underestimated how much bleach he'd have to pour in to kill all the fish.

/people who work for free are ALWAYS getting something out of it
//and the fact that they won't let on up front what they're getting actually makes them less trustworthy than the minimum wage earners

Detroit, where the weak are killed and eaten, after being dipped in beer batter and fried in oil!

/Belle Isle can't even keep the roads together long enough to run the Grand Prix, so Im sure taking care of a fish tank was a real chore
