Were the executives at this company cronies of Romney? No? What's your point again, libtardmitter?

That's GOP levels of false equivalency there.

I'm sure that Governor Romney handed out those loans based on some strong reasons that were totally not tied to campaign contributions.

Uh, what?

Cuz I hope you're not going with the debunked sousaphone story or the theory that alternative energy companies wouldn't support Democrats.

Cuz that would be stupid.

FTA: Romney personally doled out a $1.5 million renewable energy subsidy to the Lowell startup in 2003, shortly after taking office on Beacon Hill.

Someone owes Subby an apology.

Romney seems quite adept at shooting himself in the foot.

I bet the next thing on the agenda is attacking Obama for changing his positions on gay marriage

Why do I get the feeling that due to Romney's stunning lack of charisma and consequently, excitement from "the base"......we're going to see the Baked Alaskan make a return appearance?

2012-06-02 05:50:15 PM
The grant was approved before he took office. It was paid in 2003 and only for $1.5 Million. His Democratic successor dumped loads more. It didn't fail until now.

This IS bad news...for Romney.

2012-06-02 05:51:40 PM
So Romney tried something 8 years ago as Governor of Massachusetts that Obama tried 3 years ago, and both time the subsidized company went broke.

I'm not seeing a point here, much less an equivalence.

2012-06-02 05:52:29 PM
No doubt that Romney will find a way to pin this on Obama and his "failing economy".

Not a chance - to be honest, I think that harpooning a campaign by adding a pandering VP candidate from Alaska should be referred to as "ImPaling."

Romney should stick with calling Obama an ivory tower Harvard elitist.

I'll take a state losing a little tax revenue from a failed subsidized company over the Federal government actually doling out cash for a guaranteed loan to a failed company. Thanks.

Especially if the failed subsidized company is run by a True American, Job Creator like Curt Schilling.

Have any of the fine 'journalists' at TP bothered to see if they paid back the State loan?
Since they were in business for 9 years, they likely paid something back.

2012-06-02 06:23:11 PM
Romeny's campaign really needs to start doing research before letting him speak. Before making such a big deal out of Solyndra, someone should have bothered to see if Romney had any history of similar funding of business while governor and how that business was doing. I can't wait for the first Presidential debate to see how Romney handles things.

For the record, I don't think Obama or Romney did anything wrong in these cases. Businesses fail, investments are risky. It's unfortunate that the businesses failed, since it means people losing jobs, but I don't think anybody necessarily did anything wrong here.

The other option was the "It's ok to give subsidies at a state level. See, Republicans like myself believe in State's rights. We don't see handouts and corporate welfare enshrined in the constitution so we don't believe the federal government should be in the business of doing it. If the people of Massachusettes want to piss away tax money on silly liberal fantasy energy, let them do it. We in the South just don't want to pay for it. Romney understands this and understands the importance of separating the powers of the feds and the states. It's too bad libs can't be bothered to learn history or the constitution."

I was in a hurry to get a haircut so I didn't have time for quite the rant that I wanted. Oh well.

Two days after a shameless campaign speech at the old Solyndra plant in which Romney tries to make the Solyndra fail a BFD and 'Bad News for Fartbama', etc, it is revealed that Mittens has his own Solyndra-esque issues?

Damn, this is almost getting funny now.

So you support Big Government, just at the state level?

So... I can get my black helicopter, Alex Jones death camps on... just so long as it is at the State Level?

But I guess the Federal Government can't give the states those fat subsidies anymore, since the federal government is pure evil or whatever.

/State Level rocks!

Just like the "Obama believes in gay marriage" followed days later by "Romney viciously bullied gay kids in his high school". I would love to make a Goofus and Gallant meme starring Romney and Obama but I have not the photoshop skills.

WTF are you talking about?

This was Romney's personal money. Free market, yup.

The article tried to imply that it was government money: "Romney PERSONALLY doled out a $1.5 million renewable energy subsidy to the Lowell startup in 2003, shortly after taking office on Beacon Hill.

Amazing how many farktards fell for that.

No. That is not true.

They could report at any time. It was just not announced ahead of time where the press conference would be.

Apples and Oranges.

Romney personally invested money in a company and the company failed. Tough break. Although it isn't clear if he got some or all of his money when the company raised the $200M or so it raised. It is possible he did really well.

0bama spent tax payer dollars and structured the deal so that the we are last in line (vs. the usual first) for any recovery from the bankruptcy. Oh, and it went to his campaign contributors and bundlers, oh, and people warned that this company was a dog.

It isn't a "secret" press conference if everything in the press conference is reported.
