Break one and whoever arrests you is the owner.

Easily solved problem. Just spray-paint the window on the front, and then then see which of the many Gestapo agencies comes to interrogate you about it.

Ever notice they don't do things like this in areas where the rednecks live? Ooh look Earl, target!

While not a big fan of guns, I would find a night out on the town shooting cameras to be a satisfying experience.

Um, isn't that exactly where the rednecks live?

Looked like it had a handy cable for a tree limb cutter to 'fix'.

Thank god mine's a beat up old piece of shiat that I've carted from car to car for years; the only thing that gleams off of it is the registration tag. Never put the front plate on at all, and After the front bumper was replaced I never bothered drilling holes for it, so traffic cameras can piss off. Only place I've ever been asked about it was in Oregon, "Isn't it illegal in California to not have a front plate?" "I don't know, officer."

Then again, I don't live in a police state like San Jose, so maybe I'm missing out on the fun of enforced conformity.

St Lawrence county has a LOT of rednecks. its like 70% redneck, 20% amish, 9% college kid and 1% lost canadians.

realistically though, i suspect the agency is border patrol.

Border Patrol is denying it, so it must be theirs.

Naw, too easy to figure out who you are.

This is what paint guns were MADE for.

(OK they were made for marking trees but still, it's sort of a tree...)

As it should be.

The companies they hire to do "law enforcement" will only keep doing it so long as it is profitable.

.22LR is a lot cheaper, and more effective - better they have to replace the entire camera than just the glass. Just be aware of where the round is going if you miss.

It also makes more noise and can have you brought up on reckless discharge (apparently a misdemeanor barely less than a felony in Texas) if they can prove you did it.

It's also likely that the cameras don't have replaceable front lenses, so they're going to just come out with an entire camera, swap them, and go home.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if it were the Skverer Rebbe, Stalinesque leader of the Chassidic village of New Square.
To say he's a tyrannical control freak is so understated as to be actively misleading. Wouldn't put it past him to be keeping tabs on where his serfsfollowers are going.

Exactly. DEA is stringing these cameras up and down all the freeways out west to catch pot smugglers.

Nem Wan: So if you want to get rid of these things who exactly are you supposed to complain to?

As someone else pointed out; the legislative branch. For all we know, these cameras are entirely justified. The problem is, since 9/11, the agencies installing things like this, reading our emails, tapping our cells, watching our bank transactions, our power bills (attempting to catch pot growers), essentially doing complete domestic monitoring (some of it questionably legal), seem to understand they're not going to be held accountable. They stonewall regularly on projects like this. Unless I overlooked something, legislative branches are apparently rubber stamping expenditures and, worse, LEA's entitled attitude to stonewall our own press, in America. These agencies monitor Twitter, so I'm sure Fark is probably part of the mix by now. If so, to agencies reading this: at least throw us taxpayers a BBQ once a year if you're not going to tell us how or why you spend our money. Give me a break.

Believe it or not, many of these cameras are for what's called journey time analysis.

They compare plates that have traveled between two locations and work out the time taken. Thus they alert CCTV etc to look for accidents and other issues, or they flash messages on signs to inform you tin hat wearers that you will take an amount of time to travel to the next town. They also are used to work out the best diversion route if there is a road closure.

/If they are watching you, it's a good thing - it means that you're not paranoid after all.
