I'd hit it.

The Dixie Chicks' version was a bastardization.

2003-11-08 01:21:16 AM
Sounds like she's singing.
Whoo. Whoo. Whoo.

2003-11-08 01:22:07 AM
She wasn't there for the ceremony. How much you want to bet she was snorting coke off a male stripper's ass?

I love Stevie Nicks. That chica is rock and roll.

2003-11-08 01:23:29 AM
I'll bet as much as I've ever spent on a Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks or Dixie Chicks album during my lifetime.

That, my friends, is a zero-sum game.

2003-11-08 01:24:40 AM
god she's nasty.

2003-11-08 01:27:24 AM
For years, I thought she was saying, "Just like the world we know, sings a song sounds like she's singing..." and that made no sense. Of course, it's "white-winged dove". Right?

You, sir, have a vastly different defination of cool than I.

Ahh, damn.

Oh well, I'm going to blame preview.

The real lyrics don't really make much more sense do they?

I think I will go to my grave without ever being able to dig Fleetwood Mac.

2003-11-08 01:37:44 AM
Joan Cusack must be thrilled.

BMI = Bowel Movement Incorporated?

2003-11-08 01:41:03 AM
the tribute to Dolly Parton, who was honored as a BMI ICON

I didn't even know she was sick!?!

2003-11-08 01:42:06 AM
Joan Cusack a big Stevie Nicks fan I assume? Or is that simply a movie reference? I don't get it, either way, but I'd love an explanation cause I'm curious as hell.

Budhisatva

School of Rock.

In that movie, Joan Cusack plays a prep-school principal with a rod up her ass who only ever gets loose after a couple of beers, and is a Stevie Nicks fanatic.

Very good movie. Highly recommended.

2003-11-08 01:45:28 AM
i however am "curious".

used to work for BMI = Belarus Machinery, Inc. the headline took me aback for a minute.

2003-11-08 01:48:41 AM
Hmmm...

In High Fidelity, it was John Cusack's character who spoke of Stevie Nicks' song "Landslide". From memory, I don't think Joan Cusack (who, not surprisingly, plays his sister in the film) had anything to do with the album reference.

2003-11-08 01:51:30 AM
Well, since they were both films that featured Jack Black and at least one of the Cusacks, maybe the Stevie Nicks thing was meant as some sort of inside joke. Either way, both High Fidelity and School of Rock were fine films.

2003-11-08 01:52:33 AM
I think BMI is part of Bertelsmann, the mega-media monopo-- I mean, large media purveyor.

2003-11-08 01:54:31 AM
Thanks for the extra info Almighty. Think I'll check School of Rock out sometime.

Grumpymonkey

It's been awhile since I saw HIGH FIDELITY, but I'm pretty sure Joan Cusack played John's girlfriend's friend. I think.

Wasn't that Rock'n'Roll High School?

2003-11-08 02:04:05 AM
Actually, the Dixie Chicks' cover of Landslide was quite good, the harmonizing at the end sends chills up my spine.

And the video was quite touching, as Emily was very pregnant during the video shoot.

2003-11-08 02:04:35 AM
No, I was just being retarded...
Got to love Jack Black, though his stints at Tenacious D the tv show and Mr. Show were much funnier, allowed him to display the full range of his tallents.

2003-11-08 02:17:01 AM
100% Joan played his girlfriend's bestfriend in High Fidelity.

Oddly enough I can't think of Stevie Nicks now without thinking of Tex-Mex food...Damn You Saturday Night Live!!

2003-11-08 02:17:42 AM
Stevie Nicks has written dozens of great songs so any professional honor she receives is cool with me. And she used to be one of the hottest chicks in rock. Still do her, probably. Yeah, definitely.

Bet on seeing Rhiannon in this thread as soon as he notices.

2003-11-08 02:25:16 AM
Personally Stevie Nicks singing voice sounds like fingernails being scraped across a chalkboard to me. I have to change the radio station if she comes on. Good thing most of the stations I listen to wouldn't play her music on a bet.

Mic Fleetwood is the Bill Brasky of the 19th century.com

I love her music, she is a wonderful artist. Her voice is soooooooooo farking amazing!

Rhiannon - live in the early? 80's - for those that have not seen it, can understand, for those that have - well, you know - it does in fact rock...

"I think I will go to my grave without ever being able to dig Fleetwood Mac."

... Hey, nobody's perfect.

2003-11-08 03:38:27 AM
I guess she's one of those "you had to be there" things. To me, Fleetwood Mac (along with the Eagles) is just the poster child for lousy 70s rock that gets played OVER and OVER and OVER and never gets any better. Judging from the responses here there are people out there that like it that way.

2003-11-08 03:50:42 AM
BMI?? I was confused. I first thought it meant "Body Mass Index" honors Stevie Nicks. I'm like...does she have the most unnatural body mass index ever? has she gained/lost weight????

2003-11-08 04:26:57 AM
Stevie Nicks' version of "Silent Night" makes the Baby Jebus cry.

2003-11-08 05:08:01 AM
I'd blow cocaine up her ass with a straw, THEN hit it.

2003-11-08 05:35:29 AM
Can someone name me some good Fleetwood Mac songs? I've heard a couple, and didn't like them much (too bland), but I'm curious why they have such a devout following. It's the same with the Grateful Dead - I have no clue why they have such a devoted cult fan base either.

Stevie Nicks is hot though, even if all that coke abuse has destroyed the lining in her nasal passages.

2003-11-08 05:59:53 AM
I gotta admit that I love the Nicks. White Winged Dove, Standback and Rooms on Fire are really really cool.

There's a British techno of Standback on Radio One a lot these days.... Quelle suprise?

2003-11-08 08:51:27 AM
Steve Nicks has more class and talent in her fingernail than all of these peroxide pop princesses that have come along the past 5 years combined.

She defined sexy by keeping it mysterious and leaving your imagination to roam. And what a unique voice (which I can understand some not liking) which is almost as powerful today as it was 25 yrs ago.

Sheryl Crow is the only current performer I can think of that comes close but even she seems to have playing the skin and sellout card of late (granted - it's incredible to see a 40yr old woman looking that good).

2003-11-08 09:24:18 AM
Stevie Nicks rocked. She's lost alot of her edge and gained alot of tonnage, but she was once the hottest singer and she held that title for alot of years.

2003-11-08 09:49:36 AM
Fleetwood Mac was good until about 1969.

2003-11-08 10:06:09 AM
I've always hated her voice. It always seemed that her main contribution to Fleetwood Mac was twirling, changing clothes and screeching like a tortured goat.

I'll give her credit for being a songwriter, unlike most of today's pop tarts, who can't write or sing.

The really amazing talent in FM is Lindsey Buckingham.

2003-11-08 10:44:32 AM
Over the years, I've honored her too... in my pants.

2003-11-08 11:25:18 AM
I'm a fan... but what the fark was up with that rap song that used the guitar rhythm from White Winged Dove? The video had her just there dancing around and playing that part on the guitar (which, if you don't know, is just one note played in straight 16th notes). It kinda made me sick.

2003-11-08 01:09:44 PM
It's called sampling, Sarkasmo. It's the lazy way to make a hit these days.

The song in question, btw, was "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child.

2003-11-08 01:11:07 PM
Wasn't it "Bootylicious" by TLC?

Fred hates sampling. And they say P2P file sharing is stealing.
