Womens' record to be set in 5..4..3.. Oh come on, you're pulling back out? You had it! Just cut the wheel back! No, the other way! Oh for the love of...

Stop, get out and let me do it. No, we don't need to circle the block for another spot, this one's fine!

That's not parallel parking, that's an e-brake turn into a confined space. I'll be impressed when he can park in a space that tight when facing the same way as the cars he's parking with.

2012-06-01 12:30:01 PM
It's not a park unless he can get it out again.

"Man breaks record for parallel parking" is redundant, no? Obviously it could have only been done by a male.

Have fun getting that car OUT of that spot, marketing/publicity jackwagon that came up with this stunt.

Parallel parking shouldn't involve scrubbing loads of rubber off of your rear tires. Seriously.

/I know it's all for fun and publicity, but if you can't get the car out of the spot then it's not parallel parking
//Ladies - I keeeed - of course you can parallel park a car
///given a standard length city block with no other vehicles parked along that block
////low-hanging fruit is still delicious

Why not just drive a SMART car and you could pull in perpendiculary.

This.

/TBH, that would actually be a more interesting record/video then this commercial

I didn't realize until they showed ":15" that it wasn't a replay over and over and over and over....

2012-06-01 01:40:46 PM
That's not parallel parking, that's drifting into a parking space. And it's done very well.

brandied: Why not just drive a SMART car and you could pull in perpendiculary.

Motorcycles can pack 3 into a space used by a Smart car and not look like dweebs doing it.

Why the FARK do they cut to three different angles in the middle of the parking EVERY TIME. I hate editors so much.

My first thought was "what?!? Japanese don't high-5 each other... and what?!? Japanese definitely don't hug each other!"

Then I realized they were Chinese.

/that is all

Record fails. no backing up.

By an Asian driver?

What's the temp in hell?

2012-06-01 05:34:35 PM
Well, it really is "driving" rather than parallel parking, but the drivers are still crazy-good at what they do.

Back in the day, to get my driver's license, were were given a 25-foot spot into which to parallel park; the Detroit sedan I was in was more than 18-1/2 feet long. Thank goodness for the power steering!

(Oh, yes, we had to get able to get *out* of the spot as well, unlike the Mini drivers in the video.)

Do any states still require parallel parking on their driver's exam?

I call fake. I can tell by the Asian pixels

I think the real parking record is held by a Japanese guy driving a Honda with four-wheel steering. There was also an experimental car with auxiliary wheels. You dropped them and drove right into the spot.

2012-06-01 06:10:45 PM
Now get it back out.

An asian figures out something the rest of the world already knew and it is somehow becomes a sport. ie drifting

How much longer before changing lanes with a turn signal will get on speed channel?

Amen.

It is also not parallel parking unless it can be done in the space availiable in a real street. And even if the street was that wide, such a move would be illegal on a real street.

I hated that too. I keep thinking it was fake since there never a full view shot.

something about fitting tiny things in tight spaces?

France does not surrender to this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zLZD_CbTsY

Don't ever pull the hand brake in France. They will not hesitate to push your car away. That's what bumpers are for. That's how they park in slots shorter than their car.

2012-06-02 09:46:57 AM

turbocucumber: that's what bumpers are for. That's how they park in slots shorter than their car.

That's also why i have 1/4" close ended box steel "bumpers". Hand brake doesn't work, but it's not going anywhere when left in gear.

2012-06-02 12:33:37 PM
Is there no happy medium? Asians are either doing this or driving 45mph in the passing lane with their left blinker on.

Slappy McCynical

It's not a park unless he can get it out again.

Oh, it could be done, but it won't be fast and flashy. Tedious and boring is more like it, unless forceful bumper contact is allowed.
