It's comforting to know that our legislature is hard earning our tax dollars deliberating over and jerking off to issues like this.

It's actually going to fund rape and women shelters that have been receiving less funding.. So I am okay with this. Most will just up their cover charge by $3

Interesting. FL governor Rick Scott slashed funding for rape shelters so I guess he'll be pissed over that.

Legal definitions of what constitutes 'Nude Dancing" were part of why I stopped going to strip clubs.

Basically, the solution was to put band-aids over the nubbly bits. Covered == Not Nude.

I couldn't watch without wondering whether at the end of the shift they took them off fast or slow.

(later elaborations of the law required the covering to extent to the bottom of the breast. And so another skinny butterfly band-aid got added to bridge the difference)

That's actually the smallest tax increase in history.

JesseL: Are they trying to imply that there's a causal link between strip clubs and sexual assault?

Yeah, I was wondering that, as well. I can see, say, taxing cigarettes to pay for lung cancer awareness or treatment, but I'm not getting the connection here.

Unless these asshats just automatically assume going to a strip club makes you want to rape people.

"Although some Republicans balked at creating a new tax, lawmakers seemed to agree they needed to fund sexual assault prevention and critical services for rape victims. Budget cuts to nearly every state agency has whittled away state funding for rape crisis centers over the last several years."

I've seen this song and dance before. My state raised the taxes on cigarettes because they wanted to spend the money on smoking cessation programs, especially trying to prevent teenagers from taking up smoking. Of course when all was said and done very little was spent on that. Instead, most of the money was spent on balancing the state budget and other pet spending bills.

Whenever I go to Missouri to pick up cigarettes, I'll spend a few bucks in their strip joints, too.

I would be more likely to support this if there was some proven direct causal relationship between strip clubs and rape or abusing women.

As it is, it seems they're implying there is a causation, without actually having one.

/I want my tax money going to the women's shelter
//even if I don't make it to a local strip club

There is a direct causation about the abuse men suffer!! They get us drunk and lie to us then they take advantage of us. AND NOT IN THE WAY WE WANT!!

Tax on strip clubs to support victims of rape...

Hmm... So, Illinois is telling us there is a correlation between scantily clad women and rape. What, like they're asking for it if they dress a certain way?

I'm not certain but I think Guv Scott doesn't believe in rape. Either that or shelters. Certainly not education. Come to think of it, I'm not certain he believes in much of anything.

One could almost spin the situation as saying that paying the strip club tax is tantamount to buying a license to rape.

Fark that.
Use the money to teach girls martial arts, and how to balance a check book.
None of the legislators know jack about either.

In NY, and I left no money with anyone except my SO, who is the DJ.

/I will defend the girls though. DiCarlo's is a pretty classy joint, and the girls are all lovely, regardless of the shift. They have high standards there. Now go down the street to Shenanigans and its a whole different ball of wax.
