"Spliffy" tag would have been more appropriate.

So he wants to legalize marijuana. That's nice.

What else does he stand for?

"if crotchety old GOP billionaires want to help liberal Dems primary Blue Dogs in ultrasafe Democrat districts, you won't hear Wonkette pissing and biatching."

*snort*

Beto O'Rourke may be the greatest name I have ever heard.

And once he gets elected, he completely forgets that he was for marijuana legalization.

Yea, but he also forgot where he laid his one-hitter before realizing it was behind his ear. That's just how pot heads are.

I read that as "one-hitler."

Who cares?

He wants to legalize pot and he is clearly willing to state a position clearly even if it bucks the status quo.

Yeah but that's not good enough. So far the only high-profile pro-pot candidates are right-wingers who still want to "immediately balance the budget" and a bunch of other baggage we should be throwing out.

There isn't any information in TFA about what this candidate actually believes besides legalizing dope.

...and this type of ultra-safe district is where one can be willing and able to take such a stand.

We should legalize pot, and see what problems solve themselves. Then we can deal with what's left later, if we feel like it.

He wants to legalize it because his district is El Paso. Undercutting a huge part if the cartels business would do absolute farking wonders for the border. Both sides.

Wait, what?

Pro-Pot Republican candidate primaries eight-term incumbent drug warrior in Texas?

In part thanks to 200K in ad money from Joe Ricketts?

[okaywiththis]

More than okay with the fact that the guy's name is Beto Luis Pedro Felipo de Huevos O'Rourke.

/That shiat's funneh.

Silvestre must be just pissed.

/Sufriendo succotash.

O'Rourke is a Democrat. In fact, one of the issues he ran on is that he is more of a Democrat than Reyes.

Who's the true Democrat?

He could smoke all the pot in the world and not be that far in denial. Marijuana is representative of many serious issues within this country. It is used to create false justification for warrantless searches and seizures, it puts millions in prison at public expense, it represents the power of business lobbies to control legislation, so on and so forth.

Non-story.
Another example of Super PAC money being used to buy the government and represent the interests of the 1%.

I agree with this assessment.

Not really impressed with any of the pro-pot candidates, though. They're all right-wingers who would f*ck this country up even more than Bush did.

When someone drops the bullsh*t about "boots on the ground" and "balancing the budget immediately (=cutting social programs), I'll start paying attention.

No so img1.fark.net if it alienates & scares the serfs to vote for the republican candidate, no matter how batshiat crazy or brutal he promises to be if elected.

Its a bizarre day when I contradict someone and we end up agreeing after further consideration. Is this Fark?

Fark is the kind of place where you can have out and out shouting matches with people you agree with. It's part of the magic.

Wonkette: Pro-Pot Primary Challenger Harshes Texas Congressman Silvestre Reyes's Mellow

Since when are "harsh" a verb and "mellow" a noun? I have no idea what that title is supposed to mean.

There are signs everywhere lately that people are finally turning against the drug war. Realistically getting a rep elected here or there doesn't do much, but it's a good start.

Actually, El Paso & much of the Rio Grande Valley lean pretty far left. This guy ran on the platform that we should legalize marijuana in large part to end the bloodshed. I don't live in El Paso, but the impression I'm getting is that they're pretty tired of the drug trade going through their city, leaving a trail of violence in its wake. Legalizing pot = safer city. Jazz. Hands.

Reminds me of Henry Cuellar, that dude is Democrat only in name... He votes mostly in line with the Republicans than Democrats, including stupid shiat that will cut education funds and SOPA/PIPA/CISPA
