I doubt this is the worst or most cruel thing happening in Best Korea.

I'd pay good money to watch baboons roller skate down a metal slide.

Especially if someone greased up the slide. Now, that's quality entertainment.

Listening to that dude narrate the videos reminded me of those Worlds Blankiest Police Videos! shows. They both mix in a ton of prejudicial adjectives to color their description. They aren't just bears, they're miserable bears. They aren't just muzzled, they're cruelly, tightly muzzled.

Give me a break. I didn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary for a circus that has animal acts. It was lame, sure. But the animals didn't look unduly haggard or anything. There are plenty of other ways to pick on NK. You don't have to go manufacturing outrage.

This was not as bad as it was made it to be by the narrator. You could film a shot of a woman with a child in the grocery store and narrate it to make it look bad.

"The vacant eyes of the mother look out into a world without seeing beauty. Her neglected child shrieks with dismay as she puts the cookies back on the shelf. Her cruel removal of such a simple reward marks her failure as parent and a human being."

White people problems.

Humiliating? Really? Are animals capable of feeling humiliation? Possibly confusion mixed with fear, but humiliation? Aren't there more substantial things going on in the world to be outraged about?

I live near the PETA headquarters, and I'm frequently subjected to these sheltered types who truly believe animal cruelty is the worth thing ever, worthy of their life's work and attention. Let's see how much support your "animal rights" cause garners in some crappy third world hell. Don't get me wrong, this type of shiat makes me uncomfortable too, I don't support circuses and the like myself... but the sad fact is the world is a cruel place, and animals will never enjoy the same rights as humans. Get over it. Find a new cause. Your views are only held by a handful of liberal SWPL westerners.

Just a guess, but I bet it's not the "humiliation" people are outraged about. You think the Koreans are polite and encouraging in their "training" of these animals? Or do you think this whole show is performed out of fear and rote memorization forced on them through hours of "practice"?

Well...

Korean has ㄹ, which is sort of R and L rolled into one sound. I'm not 100% certain but I think Vietnamese has something similar (rolled into one sound).

Japanese has "Ra Ri Ru Re Ro", so everything should be an R (nothing changing R to L).

Mandarin/Cantonese have very limited problems (or none at all). They potentially have a hard time with words beginning with R, and words ending with L (bar is ok, ball is not. Load is ok, road is not).

Filipino has "ra" and "da" issues strangely enough.

You know what just post the Debbie Downer pic.

Oh I'm sure they are abused and live out a sad and pathetic existence. No doubt in my mind. It's terrible. I'm not denying that at all. The "humiliation" line from the article bugs me because of the whole "animals are people too" ridiculous mindset and practice of assigning certain human emotions to animals. I'm not against animal rights, I just find them to be a silly cause, right now, in today's world. In the grand scheme of things, is a relatively petty issue. Maybe when we correct the atrocities against humans we'll start to treat animals better down the road.

Just what kind of people would do that? They even shave them and make them wear womens costumes!

The animals, unlike the common people of NK, appear well fed. So, strangely enough, they're treated better than people.

You know, I am completely and utterly against exploiting animals in this way and it seems clear that they've been cruelly treated in order to get them to behave this way, but I'm afraid I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this pic......
