Romney lost every primary where he failed to outspend his opponent 10:1. I doubt Obama will have only $100 million spent on his behalf.

This is Obama's secret plan to revitalize the economy. That magnificent bastard.

2012-05-30 09:41:44 PM
You can bet your ass that Romney will be owned by these men, lock, stock and barrel, should he win.

Citizen's United was a terrible decision. And this is the consequence. Even Team GOP has to see this.

2012-05-30 09:41:53 PM
Isn't there anything better that they could spend that money on? I mean, a billion dollars could buy a lot of crazy investments in far reaching technologies that would make them far richer than any tax cuts they might squeeze out of Rmoney.

I just do not understand the mentality of a Republican that thinks like this.

2012-05-30 09:44:01 PM
I'm sure Obama has a significantly better than even chance of winning re-election, I have to admit, the super PACs have the capacity of affecting the election enough to warrant concern.

I like to think the best of Americans, but we're only human, and if/when Romney and the GOP drop crazy amounts of cash and blanket the country with negative ads, people are going to start to buy into the derp.

No crazy conspiracy theories or anything, but we're going to see the full effect of opening the "Citizens United" Pandora's box.

/Obama's probably still gonna win

They're burning liberty and democracy to the ground for the sake of a few dollars more and yet I'm the one who has had to run from riot cops.

It's not like it's real money. They can just concatenate zeros whenever they want now, can't they?

Ahh, I remember when Obama's billion dollar war chest/election machine was evidence of the evil Obama buying votes. I'm sure this is totally different though.

Obama can withstand all the spending but where we're doomed is at local and state levels. Citizens United will be the death of democracy unless something is done but of course it won't be because the money will be spent to prevent it. I feel sorry for any of you that have children growing up in this land of ours.

They might as well spend that money trying to develop some kind of potion that prevents you from looking like a big lump of dough...They will have the same result in the end...

That's kind of my point... they're spending a billion dollars to avoid paying less than one percent more of that in taxes... it boggles the mind.

And somehow, they'll find a way to "write it off" so the taxpayer pays for it.

Yep. You can bet the GOP sees the problem with Citizens United - Unions are allowed to contribute too much to campaigns.

Most of the Republicons I know are absolutely convinced unions exist only to give money to political campaigns and run themselves in a mafioso strong-armed style.

Wealthy and stupid are not mutually exclusive. They appear to think they've made a prudent investment.

I'm pretty sure they're not dumb enough to think Rmoney is going to win.

Thats the difference between inherited wealth and earned wealth. Besides rove, i doubt most of those old moneyers have any clue what they are doing

Yeah, the TV networks must be salivating at the thought of all the profits they'll be raking in. I wonder how much of this money is coming from them? They'd just be donating money to themselves.

Nah, it's sucked up by a variety of people who make up phony bills, use a tiny portion of it to air a shiatty commercial, and then sock it away. You can buy all the ad space you really want, but spending this much money after the fact to pimp a candidate like Romney just reeks of contempt and a real lack of foresight. Seriously, the Republicans have a lot of issues and their ability to waste money instead of doing some actual work (and getting a real candidate) shows we're dealing with incredibly stupid people here.

Mean and stupid, however, but this will not end well for Romney. He's been marked without Obama spending a dime.

Just imagine what the federal government could do with an extra one billion dollars.

How does this relate to people though? I mean, for blacks, do you only have to spend 3/5ths of what you would on a white person or do you need to spend 5/3rds? How many "knee pills" should the Romney campaign give out to women at rallies?

2012-05-30 10:11:44 PM
If there are enough undecided voters even left who can be swayed by a shiatload of marketing then we just need to burn the whole thing down and start anew.

Maybe because he was an incumbent, but I don't recall seeing Obama hand out hoagies at a campaign rally.

Elections in the US have become nothing more than an industry. A multi-billion dollar industry. It's not really about democracy or ideas. It's about raising money and, more importantly, spending that money. Think of all the people who have a stake in the business of elections. Not just the politicians, but the fundraisers, the pundits, the advertising people, TV, radio and other media. The list can go on and on. Is it any wonder why we sem to have non-stop elections and nothing ever seems to get done?

The Left has always sucked at organizing on anything less than state level - its why school boards, local councils and the like are such delightful fonts of distilled crazy. Already it really bites us in the ass on a national level in some ways (high school history textbooks all around the nation tend to have a degree of right-wing revisionism thanks to the Texas school board somehow managing to accumulate an unreasonable amount of pull), and it's going to get worse now they have pretty much zero limits on fundraising.

I'm wondering if hyper-spending on campaigns is going to work, or if swing voters will be turned off by the bombardment.
