Premature good riddance to the little Mussolini wannabe.

It'd be funnier if the CIA didn't have a history of farking around in South American countries that didn't prostrate to US corporate interests. that wanted to ally with the Soviet Union rather than the United States.
That being said, cancer as a weapon is a terrifying idea.

Fixed that for you.

The common denominator in the United States propping very bad people up as leaders of South American Nations was that the Soviet Union was doing the exact same thing.

These countries were the proxies the cold war was fought in.

Used to be contracted to the CIA those that you know of were the failures. :)

The CIA uses far more effective means than putting a radiation source in someone's room and hoping they get cancer and die at some point years down the road maybe.

If the CIA wanted Chavez dead, he'd vanish in a mysterious gas explosion somewhere.

There were countries that just wanted to be free and the CIA decided to go after them.

As for this story? I'll believe it when he dies.

Don't get me wrong, Chavez needs to go for the good of his own country, (though he wasn't pure failure like some think) but over a year ago when he finished up treatment in the actually-pretty-good-medical-tech nation of Cuba this EXACT story ("high-ranking sources" and "on condition of anonymity) said Chavez was going to kick the bucket in 6 months or less.

Now at the same time he was claiming his cancer was "totally cured" which anyone who knows cancer can tell you is complete nonsense, but he is also still alive over 6 months after he was supposed to be dead.

All I'm saying is, don't hold your breath, it may be a while.

He might be dying or he might not, but Hugo Chavez is a good man and a smart president. The nearly 75% reduction in Venezuelan poverty over the past ten years is a testament to that, as is the nearly doubled caloric intake of the citizenry over that time. He did the unthinkable in surviving the coup that ended everyone else like him except Fidel. He's done well. I only hope that the PSUV knows what to do if he goes. God bless him, God bless the memory of those who went before, and God bless the revolution.

Rather, and CBS, stood by the faked documents for almost 2 weeks. They had enough "facts" to run the report without the faked documents.

CBS should have corrected their mistake sooner, and re-ran the report, maybe on a different show, without the documents in question. They had tons of verified information.

It wouldn't be that difficult to tell both Saudi Arabia and Venezuala to go fark themselves. Canada and Mexico could probably cover the difference and Mexico can certainly use the money.

And when they finish in, what, 5 years? that will matter.

And the 5 or 6 here on the gulf coast which are designed to refine Venezuela's "skunk crude" will continue to be its primary refinery capacity because oil is rather fungible.

Actually Venezuelan oil is of very good quality, you are thinking of Mexican oil.

Basically, there is oil, and there is coal---and there is also some stuff right in the middle; called "bottoms,"it flows up about as thick as tar, and has to be coaxed along one last stage in its evolution. First it is cooked in a "decoker" to remove the coke, then it is run through a sulfur recovery unit to knock out the sulfur, at which point you are left with light sweet crude.

The money from the sulfur and the coke, which is sold to the nylon industry, equals the price of the oil; the leftovers are pure profit.

Still difficult to extract, almost solid at room temp. and takes refineries built to handle it. To make money off it oil needs to be in the $60-$80 a barrel range. Russia is worried because of climate, geography and infrastructure issues they need oil to be the $90 or better range to make money and right now it is near their break even point. Some grades of the West Texas stuff are profitable at $40 a barrel.

In seriousness though, I can't find joy or cause for celebration in anyone's death. Not even someone like Chavez. I have too much of a distinct dislike of mortality. I just kind of hoped he would be overthrown and live out a long full life in prison or something.
