Just got an email from some muckety muck in the company. Wants us to write our congressman about repealing the 2.3% tax on medical devices found in the HCR law.

I think I will write my congressman and tell him that the greedy assholes in my company will do fine with the loss of profit considering all their competitors will lose it too, and maybe it should be raised to 3%.

Things that will destroy the economy: Tax rate increases on the top few brackets of a progressive tax system, defense spending cuts
Things that will not destroy the economy: Massive spending cuts to discretionary spending and government benefits

Corporate political advocacy via employees? Probably not. I don't know if there is a line drawn anywhere that if a policy / law jeopardizes your employment, that makes it ok? But still, probably not.

Brandyelf: MindStalker:Got an email around this time last year from my company saying they were setting up a PAC to advocate their position. Literally just hours later we got an email saying the previous email was sent in error and nothing about it was mentioned again.

Got one from mine about 9 months ago, too, saying that I was eligible to be in their PAC and didn't have to do anything at all because they'd just make me a member. They just knew I'd be in support of their mission, which was to "assist like-minded politicians in securing the future of our company." Then they asked for money.

I wrote back to them and told them I think PACs are immoral and should be either made illegal or tightly regulated, that I never asked to be part of their PAC or any other PAC and that they needed to take me off that list immediately. I never heard from their PAC again.

I am, however, still employed by them, go figure.
