civilians die in military action and American viewers are happier not knowing. Where's Ric Romero when you need him.

What's next? Anyone that doesn't vote for your side is a combatant? :-p
How about potential aggressor for people who don't vote?
Susceptible potential aggressive combatant for someone that voted for you, but disagrees with some of your policies? :-p Lol :-)

You would prefer the previous method of "invade the whole wrong farking country, displace millions, engender ethnic cleansing and stay there for 10 years?"

I like the newer version better.

If you tried to explain it away in the previous administration or any previous war, you don't get to criticize it during this one, and vice-versa.

Not to mention he got the idea from the destruction of Beirut by the Israelis in 1982. The US came in as the "peacekeepers" and essentially solidified the Israeli conquest and subsequent genocide. Making it even worse, they blatantly overrode any sense of Democracy and installed a puppet Christian government, turning it even more into a "Jews and Christians versus the Moslems". The US got involved in a Holy War and then we act surprised when it comes back to bite us in the ass.

This isn't new with Obama. Some close friends that served in Iraq (before Obama) have told me very sickening stories about how any situation that led to an Iraqi casualty was desperately spun by the brass to make the deceased look like an "insurgent," so that they could report it as an "insurgent casualty," rather than "civilian casualty."

This wasn't new with Bush either. How many "Viet Cong" did we kill that could more accurately be described as some dude that got mouthy when he found a soldier stealing shrimp from his farm?

People have been complaining for some time that, with a (D) executive branch, the Dems who protested under Bush have curbed their protests.

Just like when people complained how Repubs used to complain about the erosion of personal liberties under Clinton, then curbed their protests, militias when Dubya was in charge of the executive.

In articles about the civilian toll of the Iraq war, Gen. Tommy Franks, former commander-in-chief of the U.S. Central Command, is frequently quoted as having said, "We don't do body counts."

The don't count civilian death tolls they never have. Counting people as "militant deaths" and not counting them as innocent casualties are not the same things.

2012-05-29 10:23:41 PM
I actually agree with Greenwald on this. Our media is complete and utter shiate and they do bear a enormous bit of responsibility for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The reporters rarely question anything government or military officials say, for fear of losing their "exclusive access". The ones that do question (Faux news, I'm looking at you), do it for all the wrong reasons.

Let's face it, our media has become Pravda and Izvestia.

Yes, civilian causalities can and have happened under both the Bush and Obama administrations. One thing that changed significantly was our ability to action a target based on the CDE(collateral damage estimate) once the Obama administration took over. Many of the CDE's were brought down significantly and even in a few cases went from unrestricted to 0.

Because both sides are bad, and voting Republican doesn't help. He viciously attacked Bush for his awful policies, winning him lots of credibility with progressives, who then expected him to shut up about those same abuses when a Democrat was in office. In that situation, I'd hate everyone too.
