omaha has its plusses. it's cheap. it's small enough to get around, yet it's big enough to have a few amenities (costco, whole foods, apple store, trader joe's, chief amongst them). it has a decent art and music scene. but its drivers are some of the worst on the planet. i say that, and i used to live in france.

Or across the Platte River to the south and into Plattsmouth.

I went to Fort Worth because my parents own a house in Fort Worth and they let me use it for a week. There's an Albertson's a couple blocks from the house.

Omaha was named the No. 1 spot to raise kids because it offers areas that boasted high household incomes relative to living costs, low crime rates and a large percentage of families with children under 18

Relatively
low crime rates. Let's not go nuts here.

I miss Albertson's, before they merged with Osco. And Albertson's pulled out of the area because they didn't really turn a profit. The locations were taken over by both Baker's (Kroger) and Bag & Save.

Omaha has culture as long as you're not afraid to venture into some browner neighborhoods. Go up and down 24th street (during daylight) and you'll get plenty of culture.

Aside from the meth, there is very little there that can fark them up? Because every yard is large enough that your children will qualify as 'free range'? Because once you have kids, it's the only metro area you can afford to live in anymore?

Populations, per Wikipedia:

Boise MSA: 616,561
Omaha MSA: 877,110

Those extra quarter-million-plus people make a difference. Plus, Omaha proper is roughly 2x the size of Boise.

So I'm cruising along North 16th with two strippers and the bouncer from the club, right? 16th and Binney. We're supposed to find some guy at 3 am somewhere around 16th and Binney. But then I passed Binney by so had to circle back around when the stripper in back rolls down her window and yells out "Hey, you light colored, boy. Come on over heah!" So he did and we got down to business, ending with a polite "Thanks. Have a great night." So then we went and smoked crack and I dated one of those strippers for the next three months until we got into crystal meth and she took off to california.

Omaha? yeah....I could tell you some great stories. Hooker fights at the 11-worth when it was open all night. Legitimate looking Italian-American businessmen stuffing canolis down their craw. Tacos de sesos on South 24th. Jim's Rib Haven. Liver dumpling soup and pilsener urquel on tap at the Bohemian. Carp at Joe Tess or Rudy's?

I won't go west of 84th Street though 'cause those folks out there scare me.
